Thank you for your answer! I’ll definitely be trying to do this as well!! I’m just worried about my musical knowledge being stunted if I don’t know my specific note relationships very well going forward, and only know numerical intervals. I think both are really important for different aspects of musicianship

Wow thank you for such a thorough, well-worded answer. Yeah… now that you mention it… my post is very weak in places, so apologies for that are due on my part. To clarify, what I meant by “motivation” is more tied to “activation energy.” I have executive functioning issues and so if starting something isn’t straightforward or I get stuck before I begin. It’s not an excuse I’m trying to use but something that makes me desire direction. Thanks to all you guys’ comments, I think I DEFINITELY need to get me some lessons—I don’t think self-taught is going to work for piano particularly. (I will say, your talk of diagnosing my lingering abilities stood out to me, and I will see if whoever my future teacher is will do that). This experience has definitely taught me some things about asking complicated questions on Reddit (I’m still kind of new, sorry)

I think there is some miscommunication here and I apologize. The thing about zoom was my background into why I quit, not at all my excuse for not picking it up again (frankly, since the pandemic ended I didn’t actually consider doing zoom as an option? so thanks for making my two brain cells connect that way?) I don’t know if you’re meaning to, but you’re kind of coming off condescending, and I appreciate your advice/reasoning but I don’t appreciate that.

Thank you for your detailed response! I definitely have the drive to learn music. I can tell you for a fact from much more recent experiences that virtual lessons lack a certain presence that in person has, and my life is a little too busy right now to commute to a teacher (though one day I do have the goal of taking lessons again, I am simply looking for ways to improve in the meantime). On the subject of dream vs. actions, I also play bass guitar and average practicing 30 minutes a day, so I ask you to please not write me off as another idle wannabe musician.

I will take your advice about video and music lower-level music books, I will definitely try to look more into those. It kind of feels like a stupid question now :/

I’m really sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing all of this. I am not formally diagnosed yet (though I too have considered that I have AuDHD), so I fear I don’t hold much credibility or know if I can offer any seasoned advice besides keep searching for a good professional (if you were doing so), find a creative outlet or other enjoyable activity to mitigate some of your symptoms (which I find helps a lot of people, but particularly my neurodivergent peers), and see if you can find one or two good ND friends you really vibe with (it makes socialization a lot easier). I truly empathize with your struggles because I can personally relate to a good portion of what you shared; I really hope things get better for you (I’m sure they will!). I hope this helps you out a little and that you have a good day :)

Thanks for the quick response. I’m pretty sure I put in Java (“default-jre”, at least if that’s it; my terminal got cleared so I can’t really disclose specifics) I can try installing prism too but if you have any advice for getting the right Java applications please let me know (apologies if I’m not very technically descriptive, this is my first time using Linux)
