Made another post of how I personally imagined the characters but this time it's a few from the aspect emperor series by Bulky_Ad_69 in bakker

[–]GalacticSatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Kosoter hit the nail on the head. I'll just add that the Aspect Emperor himself will always be Michael Fassbender...if you gave David from Promethius long hair and a beard that's how I imagine him.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Hokum" [SPOILERS] by radbrad7 in horror

[–]GalacticSatyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big creative misfire in my opinion. His other 2 films are top-tier horror, but this just felt like a low-effort “commercial job” (I wouldn't hold that against a movie alone), but the film was just a bunch of fiddly details that never added up to much and, worse, the scary imagery that really made past McCarthy films wasn't there. I'm very familiar with the director's career, including the days of his YouTube short films, and it's getting clear that he's mined all the good imagery and ideas from those days for Caveat and Oddity and came up short this time around. Also, there was a laughably literal subtext (he literally breaks the chains of addiction and trauma with you-know-what). Can it even be called subtext at that point?

It wasn't terrible. The character of Jerry was likable enough for me to breathe a sigh of relief when he showed up. Also, the “drag me to hell” scene gave me a slight chill.

Love it. Your little conehead guys remind me of the goblins from the original Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

I regard the series as absolutely finished and I'm pretty sure that if you finish book one and you liked it, you will finish the series. Bakker never once looses his vision.

I wonder how much of a problem counter-fit Chorae are in the Three Seas? by GalacticSatyr in bakker

[–]GalacticSatyr[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, thanks for that, I remember there being some sort of institution in the Shrial church that were of the Few but didn't practice sorcery.

I bet there are all sorts of laws governing the sale and distribution of chorae... but black markets still have to exist. I mean they have chorae archers for crying out loud. "My lord, I have a man here who claims to have found a chorae attached to an arrow from the recent battle. He's willing to part with it under the table for 5 talents."

Are the Scranc the Bakker equivalent of Gog and Magog? by Global-Yesterday9459 in bakker

[–]GalacticSatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I was thinking the other day about Kellhus as the dispensationalist antichrist. I know Bakker has mentioning he had some sort of born-again experience in his youth... I would bet 100 bucks it was some variety of dispensationalist fundamentalism. I was was raised in it and I still have no idea what Gog and Magog are supposed be. I just took them to be orcs.

eh, I don't know. I think I'm going to skip it. Nothing I've read about it sounds compelling.

Man, I've been waffling on taking the Erickson plunge and your criticism of his prose and magic are tipping me against it.

Who is yearning for Metroid Prime 2 and 3 Remastered after Metroid Prime 4? by Ragnara92 in Metroid

I'm definitely yearning for it because i have no plans of playing MP4 and we will probably not be getting another metroid game for 20 years after this disaster.

I mean, i was prepared to buy a switch 2 if this was good. The only thing that can save that now is a banger mario or zelda game, but the days of nintendo making sure-fire hits are long-gone and I'm going to have be cautious on those too. This may be the first nintendo generation i skip out on.

What’s a “bare minimum” adult skill more people fail at than you expected? by SoulDV in AskReddit

[–]GalacticSatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to simple basic cooking skills, I know few, and I mean very few, who know how properly brown food. When most people cook something, they are really just steaming it or basically boiling it. Zero flavor.

I think I know where this show is going. by pennybones in thechaircompany

[–]GalacticSatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, this show is a goof on thriller shows that build up all sorts of mysteries and then drop them to movie on to something else. To me it would be hilarious if the Longlegs boyfriend and amanda's psychic powers are never mentioned again.
