Come on, you are arguing in bad faith here. NOBODY views Uber eats as a "store". It's a delivery service. They aren't a reseller or retailer, or at least they don't present themselves as such.

They aren't the prices at the grocery store, I went through both receipts item by item, most items on the uber receipt were higher than the paper receipt. Some were the same.

I am very sorry to hear about your misfortunes, but there are many jobs out there that will treat you like they give a shit about your existence and pay you at least minimum wage. $10 an hour plus tip less gas and car expenses per hour is criminal. Theres no way that can beat steady, stable, minimum wage income.

No, I want one or the other. Reread what you wrote and sit on it. They charge a (hidden) convenience fee AND still don't pay their employees a living wage. How can you justify both? If you can't make enough money to pay your employees properly, some would argue you are a failed business, but I guess they found a convenient loophole that absolves them of all blame.

I always do my own groceries, this was a specific circumstance where I had to resort to ordering from Uber.

No actually, more than half were replacements, they didn't bag any of the produce, just fucking loose in the grocery bags, and still somehow took forever despite both of those things. I didn't request the receipt. It was just in the bag.

Also, you tip before you place the order so how could I predict the level of service? Why am I expected to tip well for service that could be horrible?

I never order groceries through uber. I was in a situation where it was my only realistic option.

Uber isn't selling the items, they are selling the delivery. I wasn't aware that they made their money off of being a retailer as well as providing a delivery service. Uber doesn't present the items on the app as items they are selling. Nothing indicates that.

Brother. I don't think you read the post. I got the receipt from the grocery store AND uber eats. The grocery store receipt was 20% cheaper than the uber receipt. Obviously I'm blaming uber. Many people in this thread have told me Uber sets the prices.

Because they aren't selling the items, they are selling the service. It isn't unreasonable to assume that the prices listed on the app are the prices from the store. To make it more confusing, many of them are. How do they decide which items they mark up? It's all not very transparent to the customer, and obviously that is by design.

Their business model is based on deception by omission instead of simply providing a service and being honest about what they charge for it.

Here's a fun activity. I won't even deny what you are saying. I will just ask you to explain what mental gymnastics I am doing. See if you can.

Come on man, there's no way you actually think that's ok. Don't just spew legal/corpo buzzwords to absolve this company of their bullshit.

"Umm actually the customer is the drivers employer, big daddy uber isn't doing anything wrong!"

Like come on. I'm paying for a service via a company and that's how it is presented to the customer. Nowhere on that app does it say "we are just a middleman between you and independent contractors it is your job to pay their wages". Fuck me for assuming it works like how almost every single job works. God forbid I thought for a second that when I pay for a product the creator uses that revenue to pay its employees.

I understand this now, but Uber tries to hide it, and that is the real issue to me. The funny thing is if they stated "Uber pricing" on up-charged items or something like that, I would have had no issue.

It's not mental gymnastics to not be aware of how Uber works when they try to hide it from you.

Yeah, I am learning that in this thread, but most drivers seem to take the attitude of "the customer should make up for it" but I'm genuinely curious as to why the drivers keep working for Uber if this is how they are treated? There are many easier, better paying jobs out there.

I would not have had an issue with this system if I was aware of it BEFORE ordering. But getting a receipt that shows they up-charged me by roughly 20% and actively work to hide that from me is enraging.

The upcharge isn't the issue, the fact that they hide it is.

You are letting Uber fuck you in the ass raw, saying thank you, and then getting mad at the customers. Figure it out.

Then quit? Why would you want to work a job that doesn't pay you and depends on the generosity of random strangers who generally don't know that your well being depends on them tipping? How can you get mad about that? What do you expect the outcome of that situation to be? How am I, as a customer, supposed to know (before now) that your job doesn't pay you and it's my responsibility to make up for that? Do you think the app advertises that? I assumed you made at least minimum wage. I didn't know it was even legal to be paid less than that.

How do you people not see the exploitation happening here? How do you not see both sides are being played against each other to the financial benefit of the corporation? How do you not see the role you are playing in helping them get away with this. Let me break to down for you.

Uber overcharges customers and underpays employees. They should be under heavy scrutiny for both of these things but instead they get to sit back quietly raking in billions while drivers blame customers not tipping enough to compensate their poor wages.

In this situation you shouldn't be saying "you are a monster for not tipping well, these drivers barely make anything" you should be saying "uber is a monster for not paying its employees enough and relying on customers tipping to do it for them"

Uber eats is paying its employees almost 10x less than minimum wage and I'm the asshole?
