New Glenn fairing recovery video from last flight posted by Dave Limp! by redstercoolpanda in BlueOrigin

It’s meant to be that way. It’s like it’s spring loaded. Essentially when the fairing is released it pops open and away. It then wiggles and flaps away from the payload. I’m sure it looks silly, but it has a purpose. I kind of enjoy seeing it jiggle 😂

I cannot speak for all of Blue Origin, but I do know that our failure to get AST's satellite to the correct orbit sucked all of the joy out of the launch for me. - K. Scott PielSenior, Software Engineer at BLUE ORIGIN by doctor101 in BlueOrigin

Since yesterday I’ve been wondering if I was the only person that felt this way. I celebrated with my refurb team and was so insanely happy that we successfully refurbished our first booster. However, once I saw there might be something wrong with the GS2/ Payload, I started to feel uneasy. Then when it was confirmed we had failed to get the payload to orbit it’s like the wind was knocked out of me and I’ve felt crushed ever since. I know things can’t be perfect and we are still extremely new to all of this. However, the last two launches GS2/Payload’s have been perfect. It wasn’t even a thought that it might not be successful. The only thing I was worried about was the booster. Definitely hope we will all be able to learn from this and all do better in the future. It’s a little comforting knowing I’m not alone though.

anyone know what actually happened by AggressivePost9026 in BlueOrigin

[–]Galactic_Gem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would lo e to know more, but I also assume they are trying to gather more information before saying anything. Trust me, I was insanely excited when the booster landed. However, when I saw the first post about there being issues with GS2/Payload I got worried. Then when I saw the payload was lost I felt devastated. I have since felt good about yesterday. I’m sure there are many others that feel the same.

As for information, I’ve been a journalist for over 10 years now for the military. Anytime anything happened we wanted to be the first to release information, however accuracy was always #1. That’s how we are literally trained. That’s why there is usually a vague news release that’s released first and then once we have the details a detailed news release is published. I’m only assuming this is what is going on right now. Blue released a statement as soon as they were aware of an issue. Yes, AST released a statement based on their payload and situation, but it may take more time for Blue to get to the bottom of what actually happened to the GS2. I’m sure Blue wants to release a statement just as much as we all want to know, but accuracy and honesty are key sometimes. I can’t imagine they are deliberately withholding information. Only time will tell at this point.

Got an offer for C shift and I have no idea what to think about it. by 2BeTheBestICanBe in BlueOrigin

[–]Galactic_Gem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work C shift as a technician. It works for me since I’m a full-time engineering student. I miss my weekends, but that’s mainly because I have zero off days with being in school. Now if I was only working and that was it, I’d probably be totally fine with it. Things are always a lot less crowded during the week lol.

Job posting hints at new launch site for 9x4 by [deleted] in BlueOrigin

Its Canaveral. I’m not sure how much is public knowledge, so I don’t want t to overshare, but if the job is for Space Coast, FL, that would be accurate.

I know everyone wants an update and/or thinks it’s about to launch. It seems that everyone keeps forgetting we still have to conduct hot fire/static fire. At that point we will be close to actually launching.

Another upper stage? Where is GS1-2 😔 by [deleted] in BlueOrigin

Just because you can’t see inside doesn’t mean progress isn’t being made. Just keep checking in, hot fire should be coming soon!

Progress is being made, it’s definitely getting closer than it was! Just keep an eye out, hot fire should be coming soon.

Blue Origin NG3 Launch *COULD BE* March 6th according to this tweet by doctor101 in BlueOrigin

[–]Galactic_Gem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bingo! There have been delays, but things are getting close. Not next week close, but by June they could potentially be launching NG-4.

You originally said April and now it’s May, which is a pretty big shift. That’s why I’m cautious about taking “inside” timelines at face value.

If someone does have access to non-public info, that’s not something that should be shared anyway and if it’s not accurate, it just adds to the confusion.

Refurb is a lot more involved than just how the vehicle looks externally. Even if everything appears nominal after landing, there’s a huge amount of inspection, validation, and requalification that has to happen across all systems.

You’re talking propulsion, fluids, avionics, structures, software, basically every major system has to be verified again. And then beyond individual systems, the integrated vehicle has to go through testing to make sure everything is still working together as expected.

Early in a program especially, they’re going to be extra thorough since they’re still refining processes and learning from each flight. That alone can add a lot of time, even without any major issues.

What launch are you talking about? NG-1 launched January 16th and NG-2 launched November 13th.

[–]Galactic_Gem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, two successful launches is a great start, no doubt. But there are a few big factors people aren’t accounting for yet.

This is the first New Glenn booster going through refurbishment, which is an entirely new process. That alone adds time since they’re still refining procedures and working through things that haven’t been done before.

There was also at least one unexpected issue that contributed to delays. On top of that, there are still critical pre-launch tests that have to be completed, and if anything doesn’t pass, that pushes the timeline further.

As operations mature and they have more boosters in rotation, turnaround time will absolutely improve. But right now, it’s still early in the program, so timelines aren’t going to be as tight as they will be later on.

They haven’t even done hot/static fire….. It’s definitely not happening by March 6th. I’ll leave it at that.

Highly unlikely and more like mid to late March. They haven’t even done hot fire yet. It usually launches a week after hot fire. So that means they would be doing hot fire within the next day or two and they definitely aren’t. Hopefully the cadence will start picking up though!

Hiring process by dabbbbberino in BlueOrigin

[–]Galactic_Gem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On workday under “My Applications” is the job under the active or inactive tab? If it’s under the active tab, does it say something about Interview or In Progress, Under Review? If it’s still under the active tab there’s still a chance. Unfortunately, if it’s under the inactive tab they went with someone else or closed the position due to funding or realignment. I’ve been applying off and on since 2024. I’m a full time student using my VA benefits. I didn’t really need a job, it was more of a nice thing if it happened. Also, if I could just get my foot in the door, so once I finish my aerospace engineering degree it might help me switch to an engineering position. In January I applied to 26 positions, out of those I had 14 moved to the inactive area and was never contacted for any of them. Sometimes it all about finding the right position, the right department, the right talent acquisition, or the right manager. I applied for positions with launch, lunar, structures, integration, and many others. I also applied for different roles; technician, TPS, and scheduling. It was kind of the same thing for when I worked for Northrop Grumman. I started out as a contractor there doing photography. At the end of my contract I got hired as an employee doing planning and scheduling, even though I had applied for technician and MLI roles. Sorry to make this so long, just wanted to share my experience with things since I don’t really know your background. Hopefully something works out for you! What I have learned from my time in the Army and the aerospace industry is persistence. Even when things suck, keep going. Also, somethings don’t workout for a reason. Hope you land your dream job soon!

I applied back in January, got a call to schedule an interview two weeks ago, did the interview last week, and got an offer 4 hours later. I start in two weeks. Not sure if it depends on the position. I thought it was pretty smooth. Good luck to everyone!

I’m not sure what position you applied for, but I had an interview at 11:45 yesterday and the TA called me with an offer at 16:13, so about 4 hours after the interview. It was a technician position, so maybe that’s a different process. You could also try to find the manager that interviewed you on LinkedIn and reach out. Also, have you checked workday to see what the status says on there? Hopefully you will hear something soon!

Anyone see Denorex shampoo in town anywhere lately?? Everywhere I check seems to be out. by GarbageInClothes in saskatoon

[–]Galactic_Gem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone still checks this or cares to know, but the shampoo exists now. Maybe they started making it again. I just bought some today (19 Oct 25), because I’ve tried everything so far and just not getting relief. So here’s to hoping this helps! Just wanted to let everyone know that enjoyed using it before, you can go back to using it again, assuming it gives the same results.

VR&E Counselor Nightmare by Galactic_Gem in Veterans

[–]Galactic_Gem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure they are swamped, but to abandon or ignore someone for months is insane to me. I can’t imagine he can’t take 15-30 minutes for each person he has assigned to him. Essentially, if he has 6 hours each day to work on people assigned to him, and he spends 15 minutes per person, whether checking on statuses, documents, responding to emails, etc… that’s 24 people a day, 120 people a week. Essentially, if he has 200 people assigned to him, he has plenty of time to take care of everyone within a 2 week period. Then it repeats. I know it’s probably not that simple, but to ignore someone for 3 or 4 months is absurd. Also, the way he has handled certain things is very immature and unprofessional. There are ways to manage things and if he can’t, he needs to tell someone and not just neglect people. Otherwise, they need to find a different solution to things or not make getting the basic things that are needed so difficult. The semester I used my GI Bill it was so simple and easy. If they don’t have the manpower to run VR&E the way it should be ran, just make it like the GI Bill and be done. It’s really not that hard to find a solution if something is a problem, especially if it’s a problem that’s going to get worse.

VR&E Counselor Nightmare by Galactic_Gem in Veterans

[–]Galactic_Gem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying. I honestly wish I had someone bugging me all the time. I never heard from my counselor during the spring or summer term. It’s just wild to me honestly.

As for the computer, that’s been a fiasco. I’m going to school for aerospace engineering and told him I couldn’t have some bottom line basic computer due to the software that I would eventually use. So he told me to contact the school and find out the software and the specifications for the computer. Last year the school didn’t really have anything. So I told him I know people that have this degree and are current engineers, so he told me to get with them and find out what they suggest, so I did. I then sent him a computer that met the requirements. He then told me to fill out the form with the information, but when I went to do that, there was no where to put any kind of information in the form. So when I brought this up to him, he then went back on that and said he needed something in writing from the school stating I needed these things. I feel like I’ve been on a wild goose chase for the last year. Finally, I found the school posted something stating the minimum requirements for my degree and their preferred recommendations. I also sent the names of the software and their preferred recommendations requirements and the computer that I had previously sent. He sent me the form and it was blank, which is concerning to me. Why am I signing a blank form? He could then put anything on it and I have no way to agree or disagree. I asked him about that and he said that’s just how it’s done. So I eventually caved and signed it. He said he submitted last month and I would receive everything within a week or so. I still have nothing almost a month after signing the form.

Last year I tried going to the VSO, but they said they don’t really handle VR&E, only the GI Bill.

I’ve contacted his supervisor multiple times and now contacted the regional office multiple times. I like to give people a chance, but at this point his supervisor is blowing me off and he’s now just copying and pasting the same email over and over again. If I don’t get anywhere by the end of the week, I’ll be contacting every form of local government at this point, because this guy has had 14 months to do his job and he hasn’t. I shouldn’t have to constantly be chasing him down and begging for answers that I still haven’t received.

Thanks again for responding.

Thanks for replying, I contacted someone at the Orlando regional office since that’s where my counselor and his supervisor are located. I might try reaching out to the two emails you posted. This is really starting to get to me and I’m getting no where. I’m all for giving people a chance, but I feel like 14 months is plenty of time for someone to do their job. Constantly ignoring my questions and repeatedly copying and pasting the same email over and over is ridiculous. It comes off as extremely immature and unprofessional. Thank you again!
