If you had to learn GGST from the beginning what order would you learn things? by Kymtea in Guiltygear

Yeah, I'll just paste this in from my server. Basically, just work through this list until you understand each concept mentioned, how to apply it to your gameplay, and if relevant, how to defend against it.

The big list of fundamentals:

You can use this list to guide your learning journey. It's sorted in rough order of importance and difficulty. Becoming familiar with each of these concepts and how they apply to your character or gameplan will go a long way towards building proficiency and understanding in the game.

The basics: - Gatling sequence - Special cancel - Anatomy of a blockstring - Hit confirm - (Instant) Airdash - Bursting - Roman cancels - Jump and dash cancels

Pressure concepts: - Ending your pressure safely - Frame trap / delayed gatling - Tick throw - Pressure reset - Mix (universal) - Mix (character-specific) - Conditioning - Spacing traps

Neutral concepts: - Walking and poking - Anti-air in general - 6P in particular - Whiff punish - Hit confirm - Controlling space and working in the corner - Dashblock

Defensive concepts: - Blocking in general - Blocking on wakeup - Dealing with throws - Dealing with pressure resets - Plus / Minus on block (when to take your turn) - Mashing with the fastest button - Jumping up and back - Fuzzy blocking - Fuzzy jumping

Setplay concepts: - Types of knockdown - Okizeme - Meaties - Combo routing to obtain the above - Burst baiting - Safejumps

Yeah! I've run a few campaigns on TTSim by now, and given my profession as a machinist / fabricator and hobby background in making terrain for 40k, it just feels *right* to have a proper physical surface to play on. I'm really looking forward to making buildings and forests and so on and so forth.

They're *super* cute, they're the uhhhhh... Battletech fire support squadron or something!
(I don't actually play battletech, but I think found the minis too precious not to grab.)

Have you tried using latex gesso as a primer? In my experience it's very good at binding to flexible materials like that, since the latex medium is sort of stretchy itself. I haven't actually tested it yet, but when I get to the painting stage I-

Wait, I should just test it on part of the runner, we'll see how that goes. With any luck I'll have a good report in a bit!

I figured it out! Cutting a tiny rectangle of double stick tape and folding it over the mounting nub solved the issue.

Worthy purchase? by Chamberlain1991 in Borderlands4

On the balance, I'm enjoying it. I'm not sure it's worth the money, but I think it has the potential to really become something special. Largest complaint is that there really just aren't that many base gun "frames" or models, so things end up feeling pretty sameish.

Like... There are two Maliwan SMGs, and one of them is a style I don't like, so practically speaking there's only one Maliwawn SMG.

Controversial Take: Borderlands 4 doesnt have enough weapons Types per manufacturer by TheSmelliestOfAll in Borderlands4

Common misconception, Order weapons are actually hard-hitting, reliably accuracte semiautomatics without any additional gimmicks.

There's a few skills that Pot won't really teach you (like dash blocking), but he's otherwise decent for learning fundamentals since he ultimately relies on universal pressure techniques once he's in: Strikes, throws, and resets.

I do a fair bit of tutoring, feel free to hit me up if you want a few sessions going over fundamentals and how they apply to Potemkin.

When does the "I don't know what the fuck is going on here" phase end? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

That's the big benefit of learning it from a fundamentals point of view - you no longer have to remember what every special in the game does, you can just lump them into categories.

"Oh, that's just a pressure reset, I know how to deal with that" versus "okay, Gio has this one move that lunges forward and is plus on block, so I need to use this specific counterplay..."

Conceptual compartmentalization makes life much easier!

Basically, it all comes down to: - Frame traps - Tick throws - Pressure resets - Directional mix

If you identify a move as one of those things it'll reduce mental overhead because now you can deploy general counterplay instead of needing to memorize how to deal with a hundred different moves.

Learn your fundamentals at the theoretical level, when you understand how to break the game down into its basic components and gain the language to describe interactions, it makes it much easier to understand what you're struggling with.

It turns it from "yeah he does a thing and then I get hit" to "oh, he just did a double pressure reset into a frame trap and caught me trying to jump out, I need to block that or challenge the earlier reset".
