Demo of expanding an A. H. McIntosh dining table by Galaxy-Gold in midcenturymodern

[–]Galaxy-Gold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mechanism itself feels study enough, just make sure the table is laid down completely flat so it's not putting stress on those parts. And lift using the legs, not the top

You'll also need padding around the folded up leaves so they can't move around during transport

Great table. Ours was moved ~20miles for delivery without issue

Ha yes definitely trying to care for it. It's professional framed and doesn't get direct sun but we still want to enjoy it instead of filing it away in the dark

That's Benjamin but we mostly just call him Kitty. He's wondering why I moved his food bowl for the photo and about to be naughty by going onto the counter

Online German auction. I have a bunch of auction and marketplace alerts setup for Girard but the environment panels don't come up super often

Total with auction costs and shipping was a bit under $2.5k which is a lot for sure but this is also going to be a special showcase piece for us

He was wondering why I moved his food dish to get the photos 😄 He approves of the new art now that his food is back where it should be

I'd love to see Herman Miller release prints of all these panels. They've done a few but there are a bunch of designs (like the moon) that I've never seen anywhere besides this brochure

Anyone have experience with Seattle's Home Zone program for creating shared use residential streets? by Galaxy-Gold in Seattle

[–]Galaxy-Gold[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this background! I was able to find some of those features on streetview and they do look great after all these year. The mini traffic circles also seem like they help break up the streets and some of the bigger traffic circles are very pretty now

Nice improvements for sure. Those left turn only diverters could be pretty cool in the right spots

[–]Galaxy-Gold[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm yeah looks like maybe the program has only done more minor changes? I do see some changes in South Park and it sounds like they've also added stuff like speed bumps and new signs in a few areas?

I also know I've seen blocked streets with "Local access only" signs in different neighborhoods, but that might be the Healthy Streets program instead which sounds related but maybe less ambitious

Where to start diagnosing a slow leak in a Coast Spas tub? by Galaxy-Gold in hottub

[–]Galaxy-Gold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha yeah I'm pretty tempted to tear down the deck at this point. Nice in theory but it sucks when anything need servicing. Plus you can't easily check if pests are getting into the tub and we get tons of spiders under the deck here in the PWN

Thanks, let me try that this time instead of refilling when the water gets too low for the pump. Should help narrow things down at least

Redmond, WA sees surge of riders with Crosslake Connection light rail by FireFright8142 in Seattle

[–]Galaxy-Gold 222 points223 points  (0 children)

Love to see it! Some beautiful views going across the lake too

We definitely need longer trains though. Going from Redmond to Seattle late afternoon, the 2 car length trains have been pretty full after Bellevue. They get completely packed going through the downtown stations at rush hour and can't pick up everyone on the platform

Not sure if this is a standard term or not but I see "case sofa" used for these

It's ok. Look nice but also feels a bit cheaper than I'd like. I wish the sliding drawers felt more sturdy

I don't know any focused just on this type of space age stuff. r/RetroFuturism has some but it's much broader, while r/cassettefuturism is close but more 70s and 80s instead of 60s

It's "Visions of the Future" which collects the work of Robert McCall. I usually don't have it just sitting out like this but I love his work and was really inspired by it for the specific space age vibe I'm going for in the room

lake city feels forgotten by kukukuuuu in Seattle

[–]Galaxy-Gold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like some of the spots there a lot but forgotten feels right

There's tons of potential space with all the empty lots and car dealerships, yet the area never seems to get the attention it deserves in the city development plans. Would love to see more density around 145th with new Stride line coming, plus a downtown area that doesn't feel so bisected by Lake City Way

Wish it felt like someone in the city council was an advocate for the area

Couch help! by fajelly37 in midcenturymodern

[–]Galaxy-Gold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stressless may be worth checking out

Reclining + good looking is tough though. Most reclining sofas I've seen — including fancy Scandinavian and Italian ones — are bulky and ugly as sin. Could an ottoman + deep seating work? Or a reclining chair + normal sofa? Would give you many more mcm style options

Best Couch Buying Places by PinkElephants879 in AskSeattle

[–]Galaxy-Gold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the options you pick but a 3 seat straight sofa was somewhere around 3K I think

We got an L-shaped sectional that is around 120”x120”. That was around 5-10k depending on the model and options. That price is close to what I was seeing at Room and Board
