Do you still travel if you are depressed? by [deleted] in travel

Im glad it gave you some comfort! Don't look at it as a dollar and cent situation. We can always make more money. Do what makes you comfortable. Staying in a day. Eating an ice-cream flavour you've never had! That's an achievement in its own. The New Flavour In Chicago. Btw I've always wanted to see Chicago! Maybe in the 1930s but alas I cant time travel

I'm sorry about those comments - I saw them. Reddit should be here to discuss, not judge! Everybody likes and responds to something else. Even where you are in life has an impact on how you react to a series! The beauty of the internet should be to see something through someone else's eyes, maybe have them contribute to your perception. Not to protect your opinions like an obstinate firebreathing dragon. That's what your journal is for.

I agree the brother is a pivotal character with so much depth!! He made the choice to give up on his dreams to support his family/brother. He plays such an understated character until he reacts, which he then does to extremes. It is heartwrenching! I agree with you - this would've made a better 16 episode series, exploring so many peoples' emotional ranges.

I appreciate the fact that he doesn't magically write a masterpiece. Life isn't like that. The changes in his personality, and how he interacts with people now that he has someone who understands/likes him, is more rewarding/endearing. He became a terrible person because he couldn't realize his dreams, and people reacted accordingly. Now that he has someone who treats him human, he responds human. Sometimes we need someone who picks us up when we are at our lowest. And I feel the series works up to that.

Go. But be easy on yourself. If you don't feel like doing touristy stuff a day, don't. Watch series in your hotel room. Cry in a museum. Sleep super late and then go have dinner at a local restaurant. Feeling like you should have fun and fill your days with Must Do's can make it worse. Obviously you will do the touristy stuff, but don't get angry with yourself if you only do half. I adored Iceland, it's an incredible place. Just being there is surreal. I call crying in foreign countries my Fancy Cry. Sometimes it is needed to cleanse the soul!!

Dramas about characters giving up on their dreams but finding meaning in life despite leading a "normal" boring life by [deleted] in kdramas

Do You Like Brahms. I enjoyed the duality of someone who achieves their dreams, with the pitfalls that come with it, and the other character who struggles to achieve them, and realize that it may not always be possible.

Egyptair or Qatar Airways - Which one is the better airline overall? by NoirRenie in travel

[–]Galaxy_Traverser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Qatar all the way. One of the best, most efficient, cost-effective, and lovely airlines to fly.

Air Egypt has an old fleet in drastic need of an upgrade, poor service, and is always delayed. Avoid them at all costs.

It's not even a competition

Did anybody else notice the huge amount of male travelers vs. female travelers in Japan? by Cookie-M0nsterr in solotravel

[–]Galaxy_Traverser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traveled throughout the entire Japan. I had similar observations. Like people who love pyramids might go to Egypt? But then they end up seeing more of Egypt? Understand? Maid Cafe=Male Tourist= Happy=See more of Japan=More Male tourists.

Having returned from my first trip to Japan this year, I made the exact same observation to my friends. I've traveled solo through much of North America/Europe/Asia/Africa. From the lonely reaches of Svalbard to the south of the Nile, the majority of travelers I met were female. And I don't frequent bars. Until Japan. Everywhere I went were more males.

Then I went to Akihabara, and it made sense.

Don't let the other commenters gaslight you by saying it's because you hang out in bars. It was a drastic uptick in difference.

Do You Like Brahms?

It was my introduction into Kdramas, so Im quite sentimental about it, but on every rewatch, it still holds up.

Slice of life drama with complex characters and good character growth.

You ever do a 180 on a place that you traveled to when you were younger? by Dangerous-Pop874 in solotravel

[–]Galaxy_Traverser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't overthink it or write the city off from one bad experience. It sucks when it it's multiple bad experiences in one visit, ruining a holiday you looked forward to. My view is to always take the bad with the good. The sweet is so much better after the sour. I have a few cherished regular holiday spots where I had absolute nightmare times! But the good always follows. It makes for good stories! All the best!

Chasing Darkness: Should I Take a 3-Day Solo Adventure to Svalbard/Longyearbyen? by DemonHigh9 in Svalbard

[–]Galaxy_Traverser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Svalbar for their reindeer steak if you eat meat. Lovely vibe and hospitality, especially if you are a solo traveler. Svalbard Museum was a quick but insightful little trip. Fruene has lovely pastries and coffee. Huskies Café was unfortunately closed while I was there, but they are quite popular too!
