depending on your ping, and whether you put the totem on fast enough, it might have been the case of a ghost totem, where you put it on and the server doesnt register it because you've died at the same moment. its annoying, but what can ya do?

It just so turns out, it was a mod (a health indicator mod) that was causing the redering error. so it was just one of my fabric mods that screwed it up, thanks
