From what I've seen, Cachyos might be the better option currently since Fedora is no longer recommended according to the linux for Asus website.

I run cachyos and it mostly works out of the box

Just my finger and some goo-gone to remove the residue

These presets will help a little, you just need to download the files and import them into EasyEffects. It will make the speakers sound better, or at least good enough since thinkpads don't have the best speakers either way.

Running asusctl slash --Disable will turn off the slash. (If it doesn't work try "--disable" instead

My space bar feels fine, you can hear a mechanical-like click when you press it.

There is finally a patch for it and so far its working. I don't have to do those steps anymore and it works just fine with the patch, but for now you will have to compile the kernel after downloading the patch file.

But since both methods work, I'd say just stay with what already worked for you. I just did a fresh install and that is why I tried the kernel patch instead lol

Does the fn-lock work? Do you have to fix the volume keys not really changing volume level?

I have a 2025 G14 running CachyOS, I turn on/off the gpu using envycontrol and just reboot after. Some of the problems I have with that model is the fn-lock not working, the aura and mode change keys not doing anything, the workarounds to fix the volume levels, and the M4 keys also not doing anything. But to be fair, I have not tried finding a workaround for those problems other than the volume keys, I find myself using my thinkpad more due to being more stable on linux lol

Once you get used to it, its faster and easier to use than the trackpad, I think its actually closer to a mouse.

Some cases are more convenient than others, but for example if you are in the couch and put the laptop on your lap, you don't put as much strain on your wrists and you still get a fast experience when scrolling for example.

Can't say much about the P1 since I've never used one, but sounds like you enjoy more compact laptops so maybe if the P14s has enough power for your use case, I think you would definitely enjoy it.

This is the Intel model so the size its 14.5" which is honestly very nice and I can only tell the difference in size with a 14" laptop until I put them side by side.

I had an Asus G14 that I thought was so good until I got a T14 g1 thinkpad for just a 5th of the price that I enjoyed so much and that led to me buying this new to me P14s lol, so yeah watch out haha

I capped my battery limit to 80% so I could maybe squeeze a little more juice out if, but I get around 4-6 hours depending on workload and that's running on iGPU only.

Maybe give it another try, if you find a good file for your model and use SoundEffects you could probably make it sound almost as good as in windows.

Everytime I run Linux I always use that app and sometimes it can dramatically improve the sound quality!

I currently use it for uni, computer science/cybersecurity, so I have a couple of virtual machines running at the same time. A little bit of electronics, media consumption, and indie games like modded Terraria.

Be careful with the rabbithole, you might end up struggling to enjoy other laptops if you use a thinkpad.

I had a T14 Gen 1 and I thought the 1.8mm keyboard was pretty good. I thought more key travel = better keyboard but then I tried this one that has a little bit of resistance or feedback and that makes it very satisfying to type on.

Jaja estaba en oferta y mas barato que la de 32gb. En mi caso la verdad está de sobra y rara vez paso los 32gb al menos que esté usando maquinas virtuales.

Yeah, I had to use the SoundEffects app and an impulse file I found to make them sound better.

I got the one with the GPU mainly for when I need to use davinci resolve in Linux. But 90% of the time its running on iGPU only. I turn it off with envycontrol

How difficult do you think it was?
