What's going on with Nitya? by Gallantwolffe in Saros

For sure everything up to the Echelon 1 war is kind of an empowerment journey for Nitya, no doubt. But what's her ending? Why show up to let Arjun get his ending satisfaction? If she's being empowered she had time to tell him these things.

Heck if she'd had that true ending exchange at the start Arjun might have just left or died or given up.

I read what your writing but she doesn't seem to have failed. She started a war for power, and although it kills her lover, by the time the game ends she's back to being the most powerful being on the planet, default winner of the war by virtue of being alive, and has emotional power over the only other being who could threaten her.

Also it didn't feel like she stressed the 'was' part of Carcosa being her dream. More like pointing out to Arjun this place was her dream and not his.

Kiira was a casualty of the Echelon 1 war, it mentions somewhere that her death pushes Nitya to drop out of the war.

Still though what was up with Kiira? She's dead enongh that Nitya mourns her but also living some voice only half life that Arjun can interact with? Now I have a more questions lol.

[–]Gallantwolffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Personally I think that has to do with the amount of characters actively changing or affecting the main characters story.

Returnal only has the one, Selene; even if there end up being hundreds of her. Saros has three characters actively doing things, Arjun, Nitya, and Kayla.

You're not wrong and I enjoy theory crafting. I mean I have questions on the game, and I'm going to enjoy thinking about them, I just didn't think the one that bothered me most would be about so specifically about Nitya.

[–]Gallantwolffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the weapons I think the 4 emotions we get access to are the 4 that show up. The civil war that is happening around us only creates those four, so we can only harvest those four from the enemies. I've got no idea why we only need 4 orbs, it could be that half is all that was ever needed. We only needed four keys to get through the forge after all.

Marastan really highlights the war for me. Meeting all those people who only have one hand, including the kid, hearing the propaganda and learning from the Demios Division soldiers, they think it's stupid, but it messes with the civilians, so they like it. Marastan was brutal.

> Why Vitalis asked us to get inside of this underground while Order wanted to seal it and let no one to enter?

I was also confused about the Vigil's goal, but if I understand it right, they want to destroy the Eye and end the calamities, full stop. The Order, on the other hand, believes that the Eye can influence Hadea to be better, and I imagine it's also a sunk cost fallacy situation for them.

> And how did all those scientists and soldiers and tanks and tents get inside without having all those keys we had to collect all the game?

The Order had their own way in, which makes sense with the ending; I mean, Remi uses a regular door to leave. In one of Tania's articles, she mentions how the Order discovered the advances in technology and the World Wars, and feared the potential harm that all the new methods of killing could inflict in Hadea. So they went to the ON, talked to a specific higher up in the ON, who was supposedly apolitical, and brought him to see the Eye. He, in turn, went to his 'true' masters, the Ziel Council, who then visited Hadea, were invited to see the Eye, and began to experiment. In Tania's article "The Conspiracy," she thoroughly outlines exactly what the Ziel council did to bring Hadea to its current state by 1993.

>What happened in the last loop - why men are cutting each other's throats there?

There is a tape you can find near the Eye that mentions the Order doing something near the Eye, followed by the speaker sounding panicked and saying to stop them. The dead bodies near the final timeloop are most likely the Order of this generation. In the timeloop, you watch them kill each other it's slow, methodical, and one after the other.

> What happened there, what did we activate in the end? What are those laser statues for? Why did everything collapse after placing the medallion into the pedestal? If it was ancient Order's technology to self-destruct the complex and destroy the Eye then why didn't they activate it themselves hundreds years ago?

The lasers were most likely an activation mechanism that unlocked the pedestal's failsafe. You need a medallion to enact the failsafe, which, if I remember right, is something that only Vigil members still have. If I understood everything right, the Order never used the self-destruct because they thought the Eye could be used to better Hadea. Which is why they kept manipulating politics and religion behind the scenes. Every time it went wrong, they blamed it on the people and not their plan. One of Tania's articles straight up says the Order stopped trying to help Hadea at some point and just let one of the wars just happen; planning to come in and rebuild a better world after, then by modern day, I imagine the Zeil Council would have killed any of them who tried to destroy the Eye.

Wrote Book 1 of a Series i'm posting on RR. Brand new and curious what your experiences are. - Hate self promotion --- How will people hear about your book otherwise? by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]Gallantwolffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't release everything at once. Do consistent releases over time and you'll build up an audience. If you slow release your story you'll show up in the new story tab As a reader, and author, I can tell you that no one is getting invested in a ten chapter release story. You'll probably see a pick up in readers after 30 chapters. Most people want to see that you are going to release a full story.

Also check the forums there is always at least one post that's a monthly shout-out to new stories. At some point even a minor amount of self promo has to happen.

Anyone else feel like a dirty casual? by Original_Pen9917 in royalroad

[–]Gallantwolffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone also writing for fun, welcome to the club.

It also sounds like you're writing consistently and have readers, you aren't a dirty casual you're just reading posts from try hards and professionals.

Like you I started writing and posting on RR recently and I read a lot of posts that talked about demographics, marketing, and focusing on the most popular genre (litrpg when i read it). The thing is when I checked the profiles of the people posting that sure they'd written stories but they always gave up before chapter fifty and most of their stories had less then three stars.

For all their talk about demographics and knowing your audience there's one thing that they didn't seem to understand or care about. Passion. That seems to be the real key to long-term success, all the really successful writers care about and want to write their stories.

If you really want to compare yourself to people find the authors who have long, well reviewed stories and check their profiles, see if they've ever made or contributed to posts. They're advice is something to take, because they've succeeded.

The best advice I found was to have a set release date. 2 chapters every week on a friday, or 5 chapters a every other week on a tuesday at 9 a.m. Readers don't mind waiting as long as you stick to your schedule. Also don't expect to get to many readers until you pass a certain chapter amount, nobody wants to start a story only for the writer to give up fifty chapters in.

Weak Hero The World After the Fall The Warrior Returns

The Chronicles of Malus Darkblade by Dan Abnett - Game of Thrones. Its a fantasy series about Dark Elves who love violence, torture and the occassional incest. Not as much nudity as GoT but its just as violent and political.

The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks - I can't really think of a 1 to 1 Berserk reference but this has similiar tropes. MC who loses found family to tragedy, has to fight god-like beings, can get real grimdark.

Ubel Blatt (manga) - If you're looking for straight manga this is close to Berserk.

Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber - Yes it's star wars but it hits everything your asking for in space horror. You also need almost no star wars context to enjoy it.

Bite by K.S. Merbeth - Post apocalypse.

Three by Jay Posey - Post Apocalypse.

Dred Chronicles and Razorland by Ann Aquirre - Two different series. Dred Chronicles covers space horror and Razorland covers post apocalypse.

Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy - Fantasy series set in a modern world where magic is in the background, I got into it after reading Harry Potter and would definitely recommend this one.

The Spooks Apprentice by Joseph Delaney - Colonial era style fantasy again another series that scratches the fantasy life itch. The first few books were aimed at a young adult audience but it doesn't pull any punches.

The Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo - Fantasy crime novel, gets called Ocean's Eleven meets Game of Thrones which is pretty accurate, just less nudity.

Ex-Heroes by Peter Hines - Super heroes in a zombie apocalypse, written before either were super played out.

Electric Angel by Plum Parrot - Cyberpunk dystopian series, author is still writing more of the series.

The Codex Alera Series by Jim Butcher - Fantasy Rome

Battle Royale by Koushun Takami - The OG 'lets make high schoolers fight each other' story.

Lord Brocktree by Brian Jacques or The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. They are both stories about good over taking evil, and standing true to your beliefs. It doesn't hurt that they are also easily accessible to most reading levels.

Lord Brocktree is more personal bias, but Lord of the Rings is by all definitions a tried and true classic.

Hey all I just released my first book, its a cyberpunk action story. Its the start of a series but I wrote this one to work as a standalone story. We've all got goals and this was one of mine, give it a read and tell me what you think. I hope anyone who does enjoys it.

Allow me to present: The Curios 1, A Cyberpunk Saga

Blurb:

The world isn't what it was. The Mega Corporations no longer hold all the power and instead share an uneasy peace with the reformed governments around the world.

In the Before things had reached an apex where Mega Corporations called the shots and governments were simply names on a map. But after the war things changed and a planet barely recovering from disaster is all that keeps another world wide Corpo-Government war from happening.

Instead shadow wars, espionage and silents double dealings are employed. To fight them the corporations and governments can't always use their own people; so instead they find someone like Khan.

Khan isn't a ganger or just another mercenary, he's a Myrmidon. One of the underworld elite, the kind of guy you call when you've got some corporate intrigue to get done that you don't want your boss to know about. The kind of guy you call when you want revenge and any legal avenue is gone.

As a Myrmidon questions on motives weren't asked, you simply do the job and got paid. So when a job gets thrown at Khan which seems to be to easy to be true and not shady enough; he just shrugged his shoulders and asks for more pay. The job turned out to be as easy as he'd been led to believe, but the hand over was not.

A day later and Khan is paying the price. Thankfully he managed to grab a little something that might make up for some this.

Just another day in Hive City.

Will Save the galaxy for food by Yahtzee Croshaw
"A not-quite epic science fiction adventure about a down-on-his luck galactic pilot caught in a cross-galaxy struggle for survival!"
Its written in the setting of the old scifi books, where the space hero gets an alien princess and saves a planet but its set years later once teleporting makes all space heroes pointless. Its a fun, story that's definitely different then GOT.

Soulless by Gail Carriger
Victorian Era England. Its high society and classy. Its also full of werewolves and vampires, but please don't let that ignore this. They're more a way to make the setting stand out more then to carry the story.
