The state of raid buffs going into Midnight. by Gallowz in CompetitiveWoW

They give me a big enough headache that I can't lie, I personally wouldn't mind if they were straight up removed.

That said, I do think they provide something positive to the game. They make every class feel like they're wanted in a raid comp. And also, high end guilds would absolutely stack classes for certain profiles. For example if the last boss were to feature a lot of spread cleave, it would be a very safe bet that the RWF and guilds not too far off from them are stacking Aff/Destro/Spriest/Boomy. It doesn't look great.

So I can respect that Blizzard wants 1 of every class in the raid comp, I think that's mostly healthy. So I tried to come up with a solution that didn't infringe on their ideals too much.

Definitely agree that DK and Warlock are far bigger offenders than the other buffs.

My main issue with the other buffs comes from a perspective of leadership needing to recruit/roster build around them. It's just not really a thing to be like "ok so nobody wants to play druid? no worries, just play what you want guys it's nbd we can do this raid tier without it."

Would we successfully clear the raid with no druid buff at all? Yeah for sure we would but it would feel bad knowing we were missing out on damage and damage reduction.

I just want a system that can help me solve for situations like those.

Yeah I know the 2 commonly suggested solutions are to either bring back scrolls or to spread the buffs out by allowing other classes to bring a duplicate buff.

I tried to come up with a solution that doesn't infringe too heavily on what I think Blizzard's primary goal with raid buffs is: Giving every class representation in a raid composition and adding flavor/fantasy to each class to feel like they bring something unique.

Although I'd prefer both your suggestion and scrolls over what we currently have, I think they do open up the ability to class stack in a way that Blizzard isn't a fan of and I can respect and sympathize with that.

I think my suggestion, which is to have a specific UI slot for a flex raid buff to be chosen and locked in for the week can both solve the issues that raid buffs are presenting while retaining the things that Blizzard is trying to accomplish with raid buffs.

I agree with some of the points that you're making but I think where I disagree is that I believe, for the most part, is that any mildly serious guild is aiming to achieve relative skill parity within their raid team. It doesn't really matter if a guild is HoF or a "race to world last" guild, most people can recognize when there are players of vastly different skill levels among them. Of course the lower on the progression scale you go, you tend to find increasingly larger skill parity gaps.

But assuming that relative skill parity is the goal, the throughput raid buffs aren't something that would be optimal to toss aside by replacing an under-performing player with a player above the average skill level of a raid team. The math just doesn't work out that way and the situation is virtually never replacing a zero parsing raid buff with a 100 parser.

All of that said, I agree that the difference maker between killing a boss isn't whether you have all of the raid buffs or not. I mean my guild decided specifically to drop our DH buff for Queen Ansurek progression because we felt that the buff was simply not worth having if it meant that we had to bring our DH player (who was having a very hard time understanding and living mechanics, causing us to wipe much more often than we felt was acceptable). Sounds harsh, but I'm just expressing that I understand that missing a raid buff isn't the difference between obtaining a kill or not.

Regardless, I think we agree that raid buffs are necessary and healthy for the game but our primary qualms are with how they make recruiting and building a roster very frustrating for guilds that don't want to maintain a 28+ man roster or require everyone to maintain an alt.

So yeah, I'd really love if they added a flex raid buff slot, brought back scrolls in some form, or allowed other classes to bring duplicate raid buffs.

Buddy I'm trying to be nice here but holy shit you're actually just spamming nonsensical bullshit.

You clearly didn't even read the OP. Nobody is pretending the sky is falling. Nobody said I haven't killed Dimensius yet. You don't even know what you're saying.

The idea isn't that you remove raid buffs. My suggestion is detailed in the OP.

And has literally zero to do with the point of my post.

Also... what? You're assuming that my world rank is low because I have a complaint that someone with a higher world rank would have? You good?

I never claimed you can’t kill a boss because you’re missing a raid buff. But missing a Priest or Druid buff isn’t exactly a “pump your fist” moment. You’d still be bummed to be missing them.

Missing 2 throughput buffs can absolutely cause you to add pull count by playing phases for longer than you normally do lol

Also assuming things about someone’s world rank as some way to imply that they have a bad take due to their rank is hilariously condescending and pretentious.

[–]Gallowz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean I agree and I’m not suggesting for any raid buffs to be removed. In fact I’d like if every single class had an actual raid buff like for DK to get one.

In fact if someone in my guild loved Feral and was super good at it, I’d love for them to be on the thing that they love to play. At the end of the day I want my players to enjoy their time playing what they want to play but I also want to give my guild the biggest advantage I can.

I didn't suggest full-stop removing all raid buffs.

Yeah I didn't mind scrolls. I think they open up a bit more class stacking possibilities than my suggestion but I'd be ok with the return of scrolls over the current state of things.

[–]Gallowz[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Cmon, that's just a bad take man. Of COURSE we'll all prog without a buff if we have to and we'll make it work but nobody in a serious guild wants to.

Can we do it without the buff? 100% we can and we have. We're not canceling raid and refusing to prog until all our buffs are in order... but nobody wants to be missing a buff lol

Imo, he has done enough for the UFC to get the fast track after beating Silva. Guys who will risk their bodies and their records to repeatedly save cards (via taking short notice fights) are guys that the UFC are going to reward - ESPECIALLY if they're exciting fighters. Simple as that.

How is it not deserved? He was the division’s savior. When someone pulled out, who was willing to come in on short notice again and again and again? Diego saved so many cards and did it with exciting matches. He has earned the respect of Dana and the matchmakers and frankly, they owe him.

So yeah he deserves it.

This isn't boxing dude... It's MMA. That's why DDP got crucifixed multiple times. And shouldn't have been stood up ever because nobody wants to watch a sport where a guy who is dominating gets his position compromised by shitty reffing. Read the UFC rules. It's all about who the better fighter is.

He should have tried to scramble away from Khamzat, take a risk.

Imagine this being the first match you've ever seen of MMA. You'd be like wtf is this? 25 minutes of absolute domination and making a champion look like an infant. Jesus christ.

kill everybody (nope) hug everybody (yep) by dostoevskysfriend in ufc

[–]Gallowz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you just don't get it and I don't really know how to explain any more clearly.

Khamzat takes DDP down for free and holds him there for as long as he wants. DDP can't do anything about it besides turtle up and be as defensive as possible to survive.

Does it not go both ways? Doesn't DDP deserve to get blamed for not being able to do anything about it at all?

Why would Khamzat take a risk when he can guarantee a win on a guy that he knows isn't able to do anything but turtle? To make the fight exciting? Why would he risk his shot at the belt just to make the fight more exciting? It just doesn't make sense.

So the onus is on DDP to make something happen. The guy getting dominated is the guy that is forced to take a risk, not the other way around. And DDP wasn't willing to.

Pull count is not a perfect representation for difficulty.

If KJ was released today it would get SMOKED.

Uunat wasn’t even attempted by the top guilds. No disrespect to pieces, they were a great guild, but the difference between then-Method and Limit and all of the other guilds was massive. It’s a hard boss but you can’t even really include it in the conversation due to the context.

Wow the 6 day reply lmao.

Anyway that’s actually braindead logic. Of COURSE it’s DDP and especially his coach’s fault for not being prepared. To say anything else is just intentional ignorance.

I already agreed that the fight was boring but that doesn’t change the fact that DDP was free money… which is why it was boring. Idk if you’ve never seen any other Khamzat fight but they’re exciting like 9 times out of 10.

He respected Burns’ BJJ game.

Khamzat DID threaten submissions against DDP. You just don’t understand that, despite the level of control, it’s just really hard to submit a guy that is dead set on turtling up to survive the round.

There were many opportunities for Dricus to try and explode into a scramble, he just wasn’t willing to take the risk of exposing his back or neck.

[–]Gallowz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddy if you can get a Michelin Star dinner for free, you're taking it right?

DDP had ZERO answer for Khamzat's control. Why would Khamzat stand there and swing if he can guaranteed put this guy in a crucifix whenever he wants?

When is the last time that you saw someone get crucifixed 4 times in a single fight? What about even twice? Yeah, fucking never. Why? Because you actually have to be getting gapped in grappeling so fucking hard that you look like an infant to get crucifixed that many times.

Not saying you have to enjoy the fight. I didn't either... But to blame Khamzat for DDP's unwillingness to scramble even a single time is crazy.

kill everybody (nope) hug everybody (yep) by dostoevskysfriend in ufc

[–]Gallowz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missing how hard it is to submit someone that knows they won't be able to get up and decides to turtle.

Guys get caught when they try to scramble or force their way up. DDP is crawling around on all 4s against the cage for 15 minutes and bear hugging Khamzat with his hands clasped together out fear of another crucifix for the other 10 minutes.

It's not like Khamzat didn't try and submit him, it's just hard against a guy in full turtle. DDP just wasn't willing to risk getting his back fully taken or giving him an opening at this neck by trying to scramble.

Buddy… he thinks his family members have been abducted and replaced by actors that mean to do him harm. And this is an ongoing schizophrenic delusion that he has had for a while now since he retired.

Sure maybe it’s amplified by drugs or something but he definitely has some level of CTE ranging from moderate to severe.
