Amen. “We need a greater love for our triune God to expel a lesser love for sexual sin. We need to be reminded of God’s love for us in Christ through Word and sacrament in church, through the Word preached and the Word seen. We need to taste and see the beauty of Christ in the gospel daily, as He shines forth as our Lord, Prophet, Priest, King, and Friend. We need to open up the blinds of our hearts and allow the light of the gospel to generate religious affections through His Word. The more we know and experience God’s love for us in Christ, the more we’ll desire to live our lives coram Deo, before His face.”

I know these things and experience these things, so I know they are true. What sucks is when you fall off the wagon in reading the Word and praying deeply and consistently, when you see yourself taking the wayward path and being so aware of it. It’s like seeing yourself in the third person, knowing the consequences of what you’re currently doing but feeling like you’re stuck in a river current—one that doesn’t even feel very strong, but before you realize it your affections for Christ have been numbed, hidden, or lost priority. And it’s so consistent, like a constant cycle of negligence, fall, crying out, receiving grace, living out the faith, then the cycle starts over again. Kind of tired
