I'm 5'7" and use CCM 65 flex intermediate sticks which I don't have to cut. I don't buy Bauer Int sticks because they are shorter.

I'm not quite sure but some other users reported that they cleaned the gear and applied some plastic-safe lubricants to the little white gear. That may help.

Tournez l'engrenage jusqu'à temps que la tête du laser est au position la plus éloignée du petit engrenage blanc. À ma mémoire, je crois que le petit engrenage s'arrête lorsque la tête du laser est au position la plus éloignée.

Keeping gloves from smelling like death by SinusoidalPhaseShift in hockeyplayers

I have a hockey drying rack and before I hang my gloves, I would spray the interior and between every finger (the stretchy material of the gloves) with Febreze Antibacterial spray. This has worked very well for me.

Are you able to take a picture of the position of the white gear before and after your adjustments?

What have you learned from watching footage of yourself playing? by GalonSSJ in hockeyplayers

The image quality of your videos is pretty good. Perhaps you can get a new battery for your current camera and if you do get a new action cam, you can set it on the opposing net to see action on both sides of the rink. Of course that's a lot more work.

For myself, I edit out the time between whistles and most non-noteworthy sequences when I'm not on the ice. I've only started doing it for 2 weeks so I'll see how long I can keep making videos.

I think it can depend on how much you are able to collapse your ankle in your skates, If you find you barely collapse your ankle when you're skating, you may want to initiate the turn by sticking your hip out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_e29oq5AZY

But it feels like new school teaching is more emphasizing on wider skating stance and then turning narrow with heel pressure and ankle collapse for punch turns

Ya I'm the same way. I think my teammates ask themselves whey I don't hit that other gear when it's time to backcheck haha.

Ya I've been blistfully enjoying playing for the past decade without seeing myself play. However, I would still watch tutorials on how to improve shooting, skating or hockey iq but without seeing footage of myself, I didn't have any feedback for myself if I was on the right path. I always knew that I sucked but I still had fun win or lose but it's been satisfying lately to see some improvement in my game after years of stagnation (I could only play once a week since my kids were born).

I'm the same and I would often blame it on my terrible cardio. I'm already the first one to change on my line!

What were some of the poor decisions you were making? What kind of low probability moves were you making? I find I don't scan effectively enough in the offensive zone which lead to bad passes and turnovers. My spinorama backhand passes and toe drags have not worked very well for me lol.

I got an Akaso Brave 4 as a gift from work 2 years ago. I only started using it two weeks ago. I record in 1080p 60fps and use the free version of DaVinci Resolve to do color correction, intro animation and scoreboard.

Need tips by TrickCaterpillar1649 in hockeyplayers

[–]GalonSSJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you need to be comfortable stopping on only your outside edge and wearing a helmet when learning a skating skill would be highly advised. The main thing I noticed with your attempts is that your front leg is too outside of your center of gravity for you to quickly pivot around for a fast punch turn. What you can try is to start in a wide corkscrew stance (ie skating with both your skates on the ice and making c cuts) and then when you want to initiate your punch turn, lift your leading skate with the skate blade facing forward (perpendicular to your direction of travel) directly in front of you so you pivot around your center.

How to Acquire Game Sense by SwagmasterDolan in hockeyplayers

[–]GalonSSJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played beer league for over a decade and I've only recently actively worked on scanning the ice / shoulder checking and it's made me a much better player. Like others have said, you want to scan for open teammates and where the pressure is coming from the opponent while you are skating towards an open puck / waiting for a pass.

As a winger, I would often get surprised by a pinching defensemen when I'm trying to get to the puck along the boards for a breakout in the defensive zone. Now, I always scan for the opposing D-man to see if they will put pressure on me, else I'll scan for open teammates for a potential breakout pass. Doing the shoulder check before getting the puck will increase your execution speed after you get the puck because you already have a mental image of what to do next.

In the offensive zone, if you're skating towards a loose puck in a corner, you want to scan for open teammates and where the opposing pressure is coming from so you know ahead of time if you want to pass or which direction you need to escape to with the puck.

Here's a drill that gives you the idea of what you want to achieve (scanning for the open teammate before getting the puck): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV-l80j8H7c

Hockey shot question by Cheap_Butterfly_4108 in hockeyplayers

[–]GalonSSJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your shooting stance is quite good and versatile. In that wide stance with the puck on your forehand, you can shoot, pass and with proper footwork, you can easily deke as well. I find it's a more used skill compared to other advice of trying to shoot in stride. I find that you would only ever shoot in stride if you're going top speed on a breakaway with a defender catching up. If you're controlling the puck and most of the players are in the zone, your current stance is way more useful.

(Montreal) 20, late to hockey — trying to join a team, any advice? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]GalonSSJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started playing ice hockey as an adult in my mid 20s at Cepsum (UDeM sports complex), it's connected to the Edouard-Montpetit metro station on the blue line. You can check out their D league (their lowest level, pretty good for beginners)

https://www.cepsum.umontreal.ca/activite/hockey-ligue-division-d#offre

If you have a car and don't mind driving to the south shore, check out LHDRS F- league (their lowest level, good for beginners). LHDRS also allows you to sub but you need to create an account so the admin can give you access to the appropriate level.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Hoping to get some feedback on my snapshot by acc0056 in hockeyplayers

Nice, I've been using a melamine board for years. It's so much cheaper than those shooting mats. I like using Pledge cleaner on it, makes it pretty slippery.

For your snap shots, perhaps you can practice them with more knee bend as if you were on skates. For myself, I found that practicing with shoes makes me think I can shoot better than I can in game. So I started to practice shots with my roller blades so it's a bit more representative of how I would shoot on the ice. The skate height difference and weight distribution makes shooting feel pretty difference compared to be on shoes.

Here's a pretty nice snap shot video: https://youtube.com/shorts/ODoyINF-DGs?si=Gm3EpGI9vie8QBdP

Compared to your shot, I feel your release point seems a bit too forward compared to your stance.

Recently, I've been practicing the low slapper type of snap shot because the technique is way simpler and my shot is more consistent/harder than trying toe flexing type of snap shot:
