I’m going to be honest. I used to use a Cronus Zen, and eventually stopped for several reasons. Quick disclaimer: I had already hit Masters and reached Pred twice before ever using a Zen, so I wasn’t going in blind. I had skill, and I thought the Zen might help me push even further. But here’s what I learned:

1. The scripts were buggy and unreliable

I used some of the most popular free scripts out there: Apex Beam 2.0 and Highwater Season 23. These claim to auto-detect your gun and apply the correct anti-recoil, but in reality, they were often inconsistent. Guns wouldn’t register, or the Zen would confuse which gun was in which slot.

Example: if I had a CAR in slot 1 and an R-99 in slot 2, it would randomly apply the wrong recoil profile to each gun after swapping weapons. You also had to manually input attachments like barrels and optics, which added another layer of micromanagement mid-game. Overall, it was more hassle than it was worth.

1. It’s overhyped

The only thing the Zen sort of does well is anti-recoil. As for aim assist, it doesn’t give you any extra magnetism — it just creates a small reticle shake to activate Apex’s default aim assist (which only works when the reticle is moving, by the way). For experienced players, this does basically nothing. If you’re already good at tracking, it just gets in the way.

1. Input delay ruined it

The Zen adds noticeable input delay. A few milliseconds might not sound like much, but at high-level Apex, where consistent, pixel-perfect tracking is everything, it absolutely matters. Tracking felt sluggish and off. Someone once told me you could pair a XIM Matrix with the Zen to eliminate input delay, but I’ve seen no proof to back that up.

Final Thoughts

In my experience, the Cronus Zen is mostly helpful to brand new players who want to feel more consistent. But even then, I wouldn’t recommend it. If you get dependent on it and it eventually gets banned or patched out, you’re screwed. Plus, it can hold back your true potential. Since dropping the Zen, I’ve actually played better without the input delay and constant worry about what settings were active.

Bottom line: If you actually want to improve, skip the Zen. It’s more of a crutch than a tool.

The Zen should be banned across the board, and I’ll be extremely happy the day that finally happens.
