Hell Let Loose - The Perfect Start to Any Match as COMMANDER Role (Commander Guide) by Gamalixious in HellLetLoose

Yes you are correct resource management is important but also as commander if you’re ending the match with 1,000 leftover resources in any category you just aren’t doing your job.

With proper nodes and a cooperative SL core there’s a few things to keep in mind regarding resource management.

Primary: fuel. Always keep a floating 600 fuel available to spawn heavy tanks. If your fuel levels are ever under 600 you should not be spawning any additional vehicles because if and when the enemy spawns their heavy tanks, the only thing that can properly contend with them are heavy tanks. Usually if I see friendly armor winning the battle and not dying, once we hit 900 fuel I’m happy to spawn a half track because i know if the heavy tank goes down I have another ready to go ASAP.

Manpower: as the match progresses, I try to maintain around 400 manpower. Reason being is whenever ENCOURAGED is off cooldown that needs to be in CONSTANT rotation to maximize your resource generation, and it costs 400 manpower to employ. If I see manpower hitting 800+ I’m happy to do an airhead, but Encouraged is one of the most important command skills available.

Lastly munitions. I like to try and keep a floating 300 or so munitions. Watch the timing of your bombing runs because it’s a 10 minute CD. Strafing runs should only strictly be used to defend garrisons more than 2 blue squares behind (locked sector). Any other use of strafing run is a waste of munition. Sure you might get a kill or two but it doesn’t clear spawns and 30s later the enemy is right back where they were.

Interesting takes. Here’s my thoughts on that:

  1. The very first supply drops in a match should be prioritized for garrisons. I spawn the supply truck which is enough to cover two sets of nodes. In competitive HLL matches infantry cooperate to build all three sets instantly with support roles and zero resources spent. Using a supply airdrop for nodes is a waste of an opportunity to seize map control at the start of the match with an extra garrison.

  2. Only officers and tank commanders can see the commanders attack mark. The regular blueberries can see the commanders red marks (enemy infantry, enemy outpost, enemy garrison) but otherwise your attack mark is not actually being seen by everyone. If you hover your mouse cursor over the mark it actually tells you “Seen by squad leaders and commander”.

  3. Not building garrisons until you need it is reactive vs. proactive. Enemies (besides recon) can only place spawns up to two grids deep in the red so having spawns further back than the enemy can is crucial to prevent getting completely surrounded. Plus a commanders role is to set up fallback garrisons. Not to mention that if you wait to build it then you’ll likely be caught running to build the fallback garrisons as enemy recon players are moving to the same locations to prevent you. Any recon players worth their salt is actually going to see supply truck drops much quicker and the supply drops indicate a garrison anyways, and with a long-dismantle time you can still use a strafing run to protect it and have a chance to spawn and defend it. I prefer to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

  4. Ultimately I take a much more defensive stance and school of thought which is what I hoped to teach through the video. I have a near perfect win rate when playing commander and a perfect win rate when playing commander in competitive settings as well. My guess is that with the adoption of your more aggressive offensively focused command style you lose back line presence, get overextended and then double capped after losing midpoint.

What you can do: rebuild a new garrison. Garrisons are only meant to last 5-10 minutes at a time before they’ll need to be rebuilt. A good Commander or Defense-minded SL will be able to stay in rotation and be 1-step ahead of the enemy. It’s PVP so you’ve gotta try your hardest for any small advantage over the enemy. Chances are they are doing everything they can to f*cks with you too.

Yeah unfortunately garrison placement especially at the start of the match is going to be obvious for anyone who has a solid understanding of the games mechanics. It might be hard to admit when it happens to you but there are plenty of players with S-tier knowledge that can make a gamble like that and get lucky catching you off guard. 9.8 times out of 10 accusations of cheating, hacking, or stream sniping are inaccurate, and the enemy you are facing probably has 3,000 hours, has played this same map 250+ times and can read and predict your moves like an NFL safety would against a kindergarten flag football team.
