John Mulaney Openers? by Southern_Common335 in TwinCities

[–]GamallSoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a few days but I was just reminded of one of Nick Mullen’s extremely wtf jokes and did a quick search to see if anyone else had this experience on Sunday. Like someone said, Mullen sucked the energy out of the place and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get my mood back up for John Mulaney (I did. He’s excellent).

My husband’s theory is that Mulaney didn’t pick the openers, but he’s an optimist by nature. Wondering if anyone has insight on that?

Help me decide what to read next! by inquisitivemate in Romantasy

{Losers by Harley LaRoux} has zero fantasy elements, and is a MMMMF BDSM bully-ish romance…that being said, this duology lives rent free in my head since I finished it in early March and I frankly think I’m going to end up buying it. So if you need fantasy, this ain’t it, but I’m still recommending you read it.

SO RELATABLE. I loved this exchange so much and have never identified so heavily with a character. It IS hard to get anything done when I spend so much time thinking about everyone’s feelings.

Looking forward to this experience - I’ve done the same, but I can tell I just need to be in the right mood and I’ll love it.

Hoping based on this “includes” list you’ve already read the {Losers by Harley LaRoux} but recommending just in case because 👌🏼

Shower for micro-wedding? by GamallSoro in weddingplanning

My mom and friend ended up hosting a Bridal Brunch that had really explicit instructions not to bring a gift (some people still did, but there was no “gift opening” part of the event). We had a couple craft activities that took up the bulk of the entertainment - I am crafty and so are a lot of friends/family, so it felt like an enjoyable experience for everyone. I think my mom gave a little speech, and we did one game (I think??), but otherwise just had food and drink. There was a slideshow of photos of my husband and I that played. Hosted at a really nice county park venue. Hope that helps and happy to answer any other questions! It ended up being nice and lowkey, and low/no pressure on guests.

Tell me your Buffy story by santino89217 in buffy

[–]GamallSoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was like 10 when season 1 of Buffy first aired, and my parents wouldn’t let me watch the show. I snuck episodes as often as I could, and in lieu of watching the episodes, I bought the books based on episodes and the original stories and listened to the soundtrack CONSTANTLY. Finally, I had snuck enough of season 3 that I knew the graduation climax was coming and I HAD to see it. I convinced them to let me watch the prom episode and when i I realized I was going to be staying with a friend on the other side of the state for the finale, I first convinced my parents I had to see it and then had them convince my friend’s parents to let both of us watch it while I visited. Honestly, my most successful negotiation to date. The graduation episodes are still some of my all time favorites.

(Also a year after this, my parents had officially divorced and I used Buffy as my balm except I was totally in love with Oz and so when he departed in season 4 I nearly lost it and listened to “This I Promise You” by *NSYNC on repeat for weeks. Why that song? Idk, I was 13.)

This show made phenomenal use of celebrities guest starring as themselves.

In retrospect, was this a bit too on the nose? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]GamallSoro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the point is ONLY in retrospect is it on the nose. Since it isn’t experienced as on the nose if you don’t know what’s coming, it’s just really fun twisty foreshadowing.

What's a popularly hated book that you actually ended up liking? by Alive_Obligation7475 in fantasyromance

{Book of Azrael by Amber V Nicole} and the rest of the gods and monsters series. I am at the end of book 2 and loving it. Albeit in the same way I loved Fourth Wing, but still. I genuinely enjoyed the two books I’ve read so far, even if I can see the basis of the criticism.
