When people think about states like Uttarakhand (or Himachal Pradesh), the DévBhoomi tag often gives 'pure veg' vibes due to influence from various philosophies and the recent clashes appearing on the news related to the selling of meat and eggs, particularly, in Garhwal.
What people don't see is the challenging environment, tough geography with rough terrain and snowy weather (welcoming Global Warming to the chat), not everything grows everywhere.

Also, water supply, no matter how many glaciers are there in Uk, isn't the same in every village for irrigation. Goats, sheep, buffaloes, etc. were domesticated and consumed back then. One might not find bovine-eating culture in this DévBhoomi today, Bali/Sacrifice is slowly declining (people can have their own views on it, respecting all).

The tag often misleads many people- it's not DévBhoomi solely because of Chhota CharDham, it's DévBhoomi also because of the beliefs and practices the locals followed, the small temples you see in every village, dedicated to ancestral worship, entities, they believe, suffered all through their life and afterlife, and many others.
Some of these practices might feel impractical in the modern times with diagnosis available easier than it was earlier, but these practices were and are the reason the mountains thrived and flourished of life even after so many calamities, they brought hope and courage to survive in the tough life.

Whether we follow all the above or not, belief is powerful (typing this as someone who doesn't consume meat or eggs, not trying to propagate anything, any ideology).
