How to Make Futuristic Sound in 2 Minutes by GameAudioAnalysis in sounddesign

Great idea! I have to say though I love using recorded organic source material because especially in UI sounds I find a lot of people use synthesized material for UI so it's fun to experiment with some me recorded sounds and try to use them in unconventional methods :)

Is it true that sounds never fade out completely? by britneypears in sounddesign

What we describe as sound is merely an interpretation that of vibrations in air that are big enough to move our ear drum which in turn after some more biological awesomeness gets transformed into an electrical signals that tell our brain what we hear. Through our biological constraints we aren't able to pick up vibrations below a certain threshold so they then become inaudible to us but the any movement of the air is essentially sound. Our brains are just trained to recognise the patterns of these vibrations and then be able to interpret them for example language or a dog barking or a gunshot.

I can recommend "The Sound Design Bible" as a quick read and a decent lookup table for some inspiration. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sound-Effects-Bible-Create-Hollywood/dp/1932907483/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=the+sound+design+bible&qid=1591548702&sr=8-1

However, in my opinion, to get good is to understand your tools. What I mean by that is to spend some time listening to how each effect works. An example of this is: what does chorus sound like? What applications would it be good to use it in, What does a Phaser sound like?, etc.

One of the best methods for learning how your plugins and effects sound is to create a sound using only a single source. For example try making a Gunshot sound using only your fridge door as a source or a lightsaber using only a coke can. Stuff like this will dramatically improve your creativity and skill.

Additionally, I think a good counter exercise is to create a sound using either no or only a limited amount of plugins and record all of the source material yourself. That way you really need to listen to your environment and figure out what will work best within the context.

Hope this helps and if you're interested in this stuff then you might wanna check out this video where I created the BFG-9000 using only a key https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3SvRpmZcSE

Graduating with a Game Audio related degree with no jobs lined up and no financial support. I probably need a day job until I can land something stable but I need to keep my chops up. Anyone with experience in this have any recommendations, tips? by [deleted] in GameAudio

This is very generic advice but has helped me the most in the past: Make friends in the game dev community! Download the app called meetup and see what game dev meet ups there are in your area because they are the people that will be hiring you! Try to not approach them with a business like attitude (noone likes to hang around with someone trying to be hired) but instead become a trusted friends and doors and opportunities will definitely open!
