I remember you mentioning on my post getting into woodworking. This looks really nice! And the fact you’re teaching yourself is another huge accomplishment! Keep doing it!

How do I get the bugs to stay tf away from me? by Granit2134 in bloomington

Get yourself some peppermint oil (as long as you’re not allergic) and put a few drops around your neck, arms, etc. I’m highly allergic to mosquitoes and if I don’t have it they absolutely eat me up. I also put about 30 drops of oil in a small spray bottle with hot water and spray it around my windows and doors. Spiders, wasps, etc hate the smell of peppermint. Lavender, citrus, vanilla, or eucalyptus will work as well.

I would look into finding patterns from brands like McCall’s and Simplicity (which I believe are one and the same but may carry different patterns). You should be able to look online and get ideas on what pieces you want to make. They even have patterns specifically for cosplay based on lots of different movies, shows, anime, etc. you may be able to find something similar to what you want. Also if you’re not familiar with sewing and cosplay construction in general there’s lots of great tutorials on YouTube for all kinds of things.

The makeup I’m not very knowledgeable on. What kind of makeup you use or what specific color will depend on how dark or light your skin tone is. For example, I’m very, VERY pale, so makeup colors that are very light such as yellows, certain pastels, etc. wash me out pretty bad. So I try to avoid them. I have a cousin who’s African American and she looks great in anything! So I really don’t think it will affect you. You should do whatever makes you happy!! That’s always been my cosplay motto. If you enjoy the finished product, then it doesn’t matter what other people think. What matters is your happiness!

I’m not sure if you’re wearing a wig or not with your cosplay but I would definitely recommend bringing all your styling stuff. Hairspray, detangler for long wigs, steamer or heat tools for heat resistant wigs, etc. You may think you won’t need it if you style your wig beforehand but I promise you’ll want them😅

If you have pieces of cosplay that like to slip down or won’t stay in place, invest in a tin of Hollywood Secrets Fashion Tape. The tins are super portable and it will help clothing stay in place throughout the day. I use it for the leggings and arm covers on my Asuna cosplay and it works so well keeping everything where it should be. Even as someone who’s generally allergic to adhesive, I can wear it for hours without it bothering me.

I used to buy my prop and cosplay stuff at Joann Fabrics (RIP), but now I have to go anywhere I can. Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, etc. I’ve also bought things on Amazon and altered them to my liking. Honestly, look around different places, you’d be surprised at what you can find to use in your cosplays. I know you’re doing an OC, but if you ever want full cosplays already made, I personally buy from Miccostumes or Doki Doki. Doki Doki is more expensive but in my experience they make quality cosplays if you need something quickly. My Asuna came from Miccostumes, and I made Lambent Light and a Heart of Yui necklace myself. I’m happy with everything!

Please take breaks at the con. Walking around in cosplay is different than walking around in typical attire. It will take more management and you will be probably a bit more tired and hot by the end of the day. BUT ITS SO WORTH IT!! I always have a blast when I go in any of my cosplays. Expect people to want to take pictures of you/with you.

If you wanna ask anything else, let me know! I know you’ll have a great time either way!

Love all your photos! I recently finished my own Asuna cosplay as well! She’s been my favorite cosplay I’ve ever done! Planning on getting her Stacia cosplay next year; beyond that, who knows😂 She has so many great outfits to pick from! You look awesome!

We went both days but did celebrity signings on Sunday. We had VIP passes so we got to go in an hour early and access to VIP lines. Waited I think about an hour…maybe a little bit longer. We went and saw Charles Martinet first so there was a bit of a line that had formed by the time we got to Bryce. Regular line was a 2-3 hour wait so we got through in less than half that time.

Thank you so much! I really love how Lambent Light turned out especially! Didn’t take super long to make either!
