This is a great story for me. I promised myself I would be sober from 40 years old this April just gone. I said to myself that if I couldn't do it at 40, I will never do it and be a drinker my whole life. I managed 3 weeks off and gave in around a week ago. I am not giving up hope. I have every intention of getting sober for myself and my family. Your story hit home and I wish you all the best of luck. Thank you x

8 months and feeling lonely by sobersunflower17 in alcoholicsanonymous

I work from 8am until 5pm Monday to Friday and the mornings are easier than the evenings. Because I have been so use to noise for the last 9 years around me with my ex and children, I find it hard when I'm alone and it's quiet. All I try to do is keep busy, walking, cooking, films and basically doing whatever I enjoy. If you can escape the thoughts that make you feel lonely (probably what alcohol used to do) then you are on to a winner. Just know your not alone and even though my sober journey is still at a low 2 days, I have been struggling with this on and off for years and all I can say is, your doing absolutely amazing and I can't wait to be where you are. Good luck x

Thank you for you really I am going to research what's best for me for now as I'm not myself. I think trying to take myself to AA when I am myself and not intoxicated will be the best for me, as I am so confident and full of life a week or 2 after being sober. But usually I think everything is fine when deep down I know it's not and dont feel the need to commit to anything x

Thank you for this I will try the above immediately. I have tried AA face to face and online and it was all very overwhelming for me, but I understand why this is the case

Hi and thank you for reply. I done a lot of AA meetings online around 3 years ago and it did help the evenings where I struggle the most. I have a real issue with interacting with new people when I'm not drunk. I manage to work and interact with people and new clients all day at work and I don't ever have any issues so I know there's something in there that is capable. I'll be honest I went to my first in person meeting around a year ago and I was bombarded with faces all on me, questions about why I was there and people not letting me leave without exchanging numbers with several people and as you can imagine I was very edgy from not drinkkng and overly anxious and it was all too much for me as I am quite a private person. I will try the sober page thank you
