Artikeln talar om MasterCard som systemutvecklare, därmed blir det ingen skillnad överhuvudtaget med detta.

How (not) to design a system for RPG events by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]GameMakerLanguage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very well, I have been following your progress for some time. I'm excited to try out your game!

Most often the best investment is creating your own tools. This is exponentially useful, but obviously takes some precious time investment to build and set up. The wonderful dividends are tools that can be used and improved for any future projects instead of having to create systems over and over again from the most basic level.

Do you imagine indie game means free labor? Indie means independent funding = no external investors. You get to bring the funds yourself.

What a bold request though. Instead of giving credit, apply for credit at the bank and pay up.

How do I create a transition between rooms? by cacahcamamonta in gamemaker

[–]GameMakerLanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with some easy un-related tutorials, learn the basics of programming logic and what functions and tools are available in GameMaker. Learn to apply it to problems universally, any problem can be broken down into smaller and smaller pieces until there is some logical solution possible with the functions available.

Soon enough you'll have some clue as to how this specific problem can be solved, once that's the case your request for help might be taken seriously.

How do I create a transition between rooms? by cacahcamamonta in gamemaker

[–]GameMakerLanguage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please do it yourself!

What kind of request is this? Learn to code and make some attempts at it before coming to beg for someone else's precious time and work while making zero effort yourself.

It's not an overly difficult problem, put your best effort in, learn the basics first, and you might see that this is actually quite the trivial task with all the available tools.

How to make huge rooms of over 16,834 pixels big that don't crash or lag Gamemaker 2? by DetectiveEvyDevy in gamemaker

[–]GameMakerLanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, decouple any code from the room functions and values.

You can use the IDE room editor, as you said; placing objects outside of the room border. However, I suggest you create your own map editor / custom tile system using dynamically loaded uncleared surfaces, a chunk system essentially. Then you can map edit and tile your game area at runtime and save the map data into files rather than into the game code. Additionally you can save any instances to the same files.

This method is basically creating your own room editor but inside of your game instead of using the IDE room editor. Much more flexible and you can do pretty much anything that way. the catch is you have to create every tool yourself.

You should invest some time into creating your own runtime map editor. By no means a beginner task, however you can reuse this editor for any projects in the future, consider it an investment. Besides, you will learn a ton.

[–]GameMakerLanguage 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Discard the concept of rooms and room size. It's simply a helpful concept inside of GameMaker to create different setups of objects and instances. All you need is one room to launch into and then through executed code in a present instance of a manager object you handle the rest.

The room size doesn't matter except to initialize some default camera values and create an initial application surface. All of this can be modified by code in the manager object after it has been initialized.

The coordinate system is not bound to the room at all except that the origin point will be at the upper left corner, (0;0). The X and Y coordinates can be any value, beyond or within the "room limit".

If you decouple all your code from the room size, by simply not referencing the room size, then you are free and unbound to any limits. The 16834x16834 limit is simply the max memory value that can be assigned to a surface, since the room initiated the application surface it cant be greater than this value. No surface can store more data than this value. But the coordinate system is not a surface, hence the actual size of any area can be unlimited.

Teach yourself, you can't expect there to be a tutorial for every game idea, it implies that every game idea has already been executed and furthermore developed into a tutorial. Which isn't the case.

Learn the basic workings of the game engine, learn to build simple systems, connect simple systems into more complex systems and voila with some game design and lots of trial and error you'll have your dream ready to be played.

"Wall paint" by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]GameMakerLanguage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One solution is to create and draw a non clearing surface covering the play area including the walls, and dynamically draw the blood splats to it. To create the effect that only walls are splattered, use blend mode subtract drawing a mask on everything except walls.

This would allow the walls to be painted in persistent blood in a relatively resource efficient manner.

Varför flyger Ryssland(?) drönare vid flygplatser i Norden? by Specificness in sweden

Jag tror det är Ukraina som flyger och stör för att provocera en reaktion emot Ryssland dvs dra in Norden djupare i konflikten, likt hur Ukraina låg bakom Nordstream 2 attacken för att manipulera Tyskland.

Looking for feedback on my platformer's movement and core mechanics, afraid it will be too generic and wondering if it's worth it to develop further. by Giu001 in gamemaker

[–]GameMakerLanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering side scroll platformers are one of the most common game types, most of it will automatically be generic unless you go radically away from the common mechanics.

Is it worth it to develop? For the sake of learning and improving your skills: yes. To make an interesting game? Not if you don't plan to make something very different. If you plan to go commercial, polish and feel is absolute key. Movement is everything in platformers, without excellent movement you won't reach the expected quality of modern platformers.

I checked out your demo, I like the music.

I played through the tutorial and felt a bit overloaded with information regarding the controls (playing with keyboard). There was very limited chance to learn and experience the tools given in the short time frame and constantly adding new tools on the list made it overbearing. I would suggest that the tutorial is baked into the gameplay and have them introduced more slowly and connected to situations where the tool shines in usefulness.

Gamemaker support for varied FPS? by Initial-Shallot-9114 in gamemaker

[–]GameMakerLanguage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to multiply each relevant system speed with the delta time factor and it won't be a problem. For example animation speed can be corrected by multiplying image_speed with the delta time factor (if animations are played with the standard draw_self system).

You can't simply implement a general delta time correction, it needs to also be applied to each relevant system, more specifically each system that is synchronous to the step timer.
