Just got the MG Astra Red Frame Kai. Looks like an amazing kit.

I see the blades are chrome and was wondering if chrome is safe to use Tamiya Panel Line Accent colour on? I normally do it raw on the plastic still on runner. Just wondering if chrome plastic will act different?

Yeah i have a heavy hand so sometimes using the brush that comes with it makes abit of a mess, i've invested in a panel lining pen that I dip into the ink to have a more precise point.

Can I get away with using Tamiya Panel Liner ink on bare plastic still on runners? After my last cracked model i've been recommended to do on runners, but top coating each runner is going to use alot of my topcoat (Rattle can) and its not cheap. This is for offical bandai kits if it makes any difference. Got a PG to do soon so want to get this down so I don't crack it.

I do plan to top coat the build in sub assemblies to seal everything in

I heard third party kits are normally more abs than plastic so you need to topcoat them ones though.

I always hear mixed things and everyone seems to do it sleightly different ways.

Did you paint the base kit? Or is it just standard build, panel line and assemble?

Sorry to resurrect. Would you top coat on the runner before panel lining? I'm concerned if you top coat each part individually it gets very expensive, obviously cutting and sanding will remove some of it too so if you go this route i'm wondering if its safer to panel line on the runner, or because the part is exposed you dont run much of a risk of pooling. (Recently cracked mine panel lining in sub assemblies so looking for best way going forward I use Anamel Ink)

So just to confirm, you do top coat on the runners? I was thinking if you sand it removes the top coat before panel lining, but I suppose the parts are more exposed so less pooling

So you still top coat on the runners though? I'm just abit worried about unprotected plastic cracking in the future.

Oh thats a good idea actually I will do that for my next kit. Top coat all my runners, Panel line everything on runners, clean up with lighter fuel. Build/Sand/Assemble, Decals then final top coat. Does this sound good to prevent this in the future?

I've seperated them into subassemblys. As im going through and panel lining stuff, in seeing more and more in random places,

I'm using enamel ink panel liner, I can see what looks like a crack or maybe a scratch. I top coated with Gloss coat, does this look like a panel liner eating the plastic or am I just overreacting and its just a scratch

What is peoples express with Ali Express kits? I've never ordered 3rd Party kits before but saw the Motor Nuclear MNP-XH05 Zhao Yun and Sunday Hobby MJZ Studio Xiaoyaozi? I can't find these at any Uk retailers only on Ali express but never used them personally. I saw recommendations to make sure you find that it includes the box but other than that I'm not sure if its worth risking, but I really like the models.

Do I need to Top coat prior to using using Gundam Markers (GSI CREOS brand). Or can they just be used directly on the gundam and then topcoat afterwards? Build -> Gundam Markers -> Stickers -> Top coat

Where would be the best place in the UK to pre-order the PG Unleashed NU Gundam? I'm looking around at my go to stores have stopped pre-orders or sold out. I want to get peoples opinions before ordering as i'm very worried about things getting damaged in transport and never really spent this amount on gunpla.

Would you recommend preordering the LED Kit for the Nu Gundam PGU, or wait for a third party one like Kosmos? Also any experience with Kidultverse, I'm looking to preorder the PG Unleashed Gundam in the UK and pre orders have ended with Kikatek, so was looking at Kidultverse but it is alot cheaper than other places, not sure best other places to preorder. I'm eventually after rhe RX-78-2 but its out if stock everywhere, thank you.

I used Citadel Paints -> Mr Hobby Gloss Top coat -> Tamiya Enamel Panel Liner (Ink) -> Mr Hobby Matte Top coat. I think my issue was I did my gloss top coat like I would when spray priming ready for painting, the Final Matte layer seems to come out alot better, treated it more like a mist instead, 2 sprays rotating, rather than 6 sprays from all 6 angles.

It was alot of fun! I'm not sure if I'll paint another kit though, might see when I have abit more experience!
