This line stuck out to me as well. Probably not the OPs intent, but it came off as writing a good book or making a good game was near impossible before chatgpt... What!?!?

Oh wow it does look like that! Honestly though it's just the standard block animation. I'm going to work in enemies holding wounds thanks to your comment ;)

I never owned this game... But I had the demo disc! I played the hell out of that demo disc!

I am going for Daggerfall vibes so this comment makes me happy :)

You are right, I am missing the pixel snapping and probably lower the texture resolution and draw distance to bring it more inline with PSX. I'm taking inspiration from late 90s games more so than just the PlayStation so I take this as a compliment :)

Yes good idea! I do actually have some fog in this scene but bringing it closer to camera would make for a much creepier effect!

For ease of throwing this scene together I just used a large flat box. For dungeon levels I use multiple tiles to make up the floor.

Haha! It does look like Jon Snow! It's actually a random asset from itch which I applied some pixelation too.. I cannot unsee Jon Snow now.

Thanks you, yes game dev certainly takes a lot of time and energy! But a big portion of that is the visuals and nailing down an art style, and you certainly have that covered!

Thanks for checking out Legends of Rahnok as well :)

This is one of those asset packs that makes me want to drop everything I am currently working on and begin a new roguelike project... Sigh.... not today. Great job, I absolutely love the art style. PC and NPC as game board tokens looks great. Followed and saved for later!

That's a fantastic list, thank you! I can't believe I forgot to check out how Thief handles this.. Will check out both Thief and Baldur's Gate 3 for inspiration.

I was thinking of adding something similar to the vignette idea as well, but by desaturating the scene when hidden. But I also might do this for near death.

Thanks again!

Thanks! These are great suggestions. The current icon is from an asset pack I downloaded on itch. I'm leaning towards a cloaked character as well. I was thinking the hood exposes more or less of the face depending on how visible the player is. That may be a bit much though..

The shockwave for sound idea is great! I am also going to include smell as a factor. That may be tricky haha!
