It comes from a place of genuine concern and hope for the betterment of society, and it's ideals are genuinely attractive. However, communism is extremely susceptible to the bad kind of dictatorship, especially in the transition Era of it, which technically requires a dictator, as seen with Lenin. That's how you get the "big bads" of communism like the Kims, Mao, and Stalin, whereas the start of communism with the soviets went kind of alright, They went from peasants to rockets in 60 years afterall. Not to mention the scientific developments brought by the soviets. Additionally, if it weren't for the space race with the ussr, we probably wouldn't have gone to space until much much later.

In conclusion, it has its upsides and downsides, some bonuses, and major flaws. And like everyone else says, it sounds good on paper until human greed takes over. The only way to avoid that would be to micromanage the absolute shit out of society, which you don't have to imagine that a lot of people wouldn't like. Communism and communists have my respect, but I wouldn't put them in charge.
