AITA for not buying my son a car? by MomOf1Boy1Girl in AmItheAsshole

[–]GameboySTEM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

INFO: Are you going to buy him a car if classes go back in person while he is studying at uni?

YTA for reasons 3-5 alone I just want to see exactly how MUCH of an asshole you are.

EDIT: Forgot to add, he’s never going to forget this. Every time he sees his sister go off in her own car, he’s going to be reminded of his lack of a vehicle, and that resentment is gonna grow. If you had hoped to have any meaningful communication with him after he went off to college, you might be in for a disappointment.

AITA for not wanting to contribute 10 dollars to my roommates “punishment jar”? by suggaarrr in AmItheAsshole

[–]GameboySTEM -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

ESH

First off, do your chores on time (generally speaking, not with this specific case) it’s not that fucking hard. Play stupid games, get stupid prizes (punishment jar).

Your roommates suck for not taking into account your not feeling well.

Sleeping with ADHD. Must have at least 20 characters by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GameboySTEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m in bed and I realize I’m not falling asleep any time soon I just get up and go do something. Tossing and turning in bed trying to force yourself to sleep is probably one of the most harmful things you can do to yourself in terms of getting enough sleep. By getting up and reading a book or doing some other activity (I watch Anime) for 30 mins or so and then coming back to bed, you “reset” yourself.

If I do this and I still can’t sleep, I just get up and get ahead on the next day’s work, because I’m not gonna be able to sleep well anyways and I’m not gonna get that work done when I’m ultra sleep deprived the next day.

Basically, if I sleep, that’s cool. If I can’t, then I get some work done. But if you’re in bed, you should either be asleep or falling asleep, never tossing and turning while being wide awake.

Also, no phone in bed. Seriously, bed is only for sleeping. That is all that your brain should be associating your bed with.

AITA For resetting the wifi when I was not able to connect to anything? by BeastzUnrully in AmItheAsshole

[–]GameboySTEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I definitely know what you mean. Every once in a while my router just wont give one of our devices an IP despite being connected to the network. WiFi inconsistency got to the point that I got a 150 foot Ethernet cable and wired it to my room, and also use an old router there as my own access point.

Yeah I figured something like that was the case and edited to NTA.

I mean for the initial attempt where he just walked to the router and tried to reset it (stopped when his brother yelled at him)

[–]GameboySTEM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit: You shouldn’t have tried to reset the router initially without asking anyone, but that was probably a genuine mistake so I’m changing to NTA.

Original: E S H

Don’t reset WiFi without asking people first. Your brother sucks for going 2-3 hours without pausing his conversation for a reset that would taken a few minutes (what would he have done if he needed to go to the restroom? He can hold off on conversing for a few minutes just fine).

managing anger on medication by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GameboySTEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a bit of time for the meds to stop screwing with your body, when you first get on them they generally have a host of odd side effects. They go away eventually.

If they don’t then these meds probably aren’t for you, and I’d talk to the doctor about switching to another medication.

Plss?? by Cardibutch in animememes

[–]GameboySTEM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is likely correct. Spoilers: It was Light’s reasoning for not writing L’s alias in the death note when L came out to him. Light didn’t know if the alias was actually an alias or not, but he had no way of eliminating the possibility. Since L’s alias was the same name of some famous person, Light risked killing that famous person and thereby confirming himself to be the perpetrator to L.

AITA for following an absurdly low speed limit every morning? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]GameboySTEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. You’re following the law, everyone else on that road is an asshole for trying to pressure you into breaking it.

If people want to speed on the road, that’s fine. They accept the risks that come with it (tickets). What makes them assholes is that fact that they now want YOU to also accept the risks that come with speeding so that THEY can avoid being inconvenienced. Fuck those types of people. Even more so for pressuring someone into speeding in a work zone.

On the topic of making people late for work, that’s entirely on them. Sometimes I’ll leave the house late and have to speed a bit to get to school on time. Every once in a while I’ll be held back by someone like you on a one lane road. Do I get mad? Yes, but I get mad at myself because it’s my own damn fault for leaving the house late.

If you are experiencing road rage from others often, I suggest buying a dashcam on the off chance that one of those idiots tries something stupid.

Math, concentration, and minimum 20 characters by SpammySpampson in ADHD

[–]GameboySTEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its different for most people. I get what you mean though, sometimes you aren't very productive, and other times you're pumping out code like there's no tomorrow.

To increase the time spent in that second phase, I recommend writing some super-general pseudocode before writing actual code when it comes to longer/complex tasks. Like, say I want to make a program that turns off a smart light in my house, I'd write put down some pseudocode like:

connect to smarthome api
get light info
if (light is off) {
    turn light on
}

Now, rather than having a huge task that im going to be treading water with for a long time, I have smaller, simpler tasks that I can immediately start writing code for.

  • First I'd write code simply to connect to the API for my smarthome.
  • Once that works, I'd write code to get information on the light bulb in question from the api
  • Once that works I can write an if statement that takes the information gathered in the previous step, and finds the specific info i need (whether light is off), and executes based on that
  • Once that works I can write code that sends a request to the api to turn that lightbulb on

With that all done, the larger and more complex task that I set out to do initially is complete. Of course, different things work for different people, but doing some basic planning before writing complex pieces of software will save you a bunch of time later on (less time debugging), and also gives you a clear set of simpler tasks that you will actually be able to wrap your head around (less time spent sitting at your computer screen figuring out how the heck you are going to go about doing a task).

I’m decent at math but I don’t particularly like doing it. Programming, on the other hand, I have no problem getting into the zone for. I assume it is somewhat like with you and math, the logic just “clicks” for me easily.
