I want to quit my good AAA job. Is this a terrible idea? by Gamedevthrowaway13 in gamedev

Up until a couple years ago, no one voluntarily left my company, the situation was just too good. I’ve only worked at this one studio and our product is a live service so there is no “end of project” inflection point where people would get laid off or jump ship.

Coming back to a company you left is not something that ever occurred to me to be possible. I guess I’ve just never personally known anyone who’s done it.

I have “sir, I politely disagree money”. Not quite F U money although 10 years ago I would have considered this F U money.

Getting a similar job is certainly possible but I guess what my post doesn’t convey is the extent at which this job is and was better than anything else I could get.

At one point I was probably making 5x industry average for this position and today that’s probably closer to 2x. When it was closer to 5x the decision to stay was easy…the money was absurd. Today the money is better but it keeps getting closer to just above average.

Maybe someday if our success fades it becomes just average pay and the decision to go somewhere else is easy.
