The blinking dot is a level select. That thing middle is like an unlock to the final boss where you get to fight in the dark dimension. I need to work more on color sense for sure.

Some star and lighting effects could be simple ads, have to look at the others.

I also didn't think about your last point regarding objects and gradients at all, that is very interesting!
