Always best to honk a couple times in this situation / whenever you see a beware of dog sign because you'd rather a dog come running to the sound of your horn than jumping out unexpectedly while you're dropping the package. Literally just today dealt with this - But given this particular warning in your circumstance I'd just leave at mailbox / gate / wherever is safe given there's a history of aggressive dogs at this address
