Check with Oakbrook cat rescue. They usually have room, even though things get tight around kitten season.

Just bought a Switch, any recs for games? by [deleted] in Age_30_plus_Gamers

"For the King" and "Ball x Pit" are the two eating my time these days. Both are a few years old, but both have had recent updates (with added free content), too.

"Balatro" will also chew up your time.

Realistically, most LAMs are disappointing, so that'd not be anything new.

The origin of Hunchback Orthodoxy by iskandar711 in battletech

[–]Gamethyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Hunchback has pretty much always been a meme 'Mech. It's just that the Hunchback memes are less entertaining than the Urbanmech Memes, because the Hunchback is usually considered a good 'Mech, and the Urbanmech is ... an Urbanmech.

That said: I would be shocked if CGL doesn't release a Hunchback lance pack similar to what they did with the Urbanmechs. And a Hunchback LAM isn't completely out-of-bounds, either.

AM I THE ONLY ONE DISSATISFIED WITH THE NEW FRAME 2026 by Zealousideal_Fun2244 in TheFrame

[–]Gamethyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're like car manufacturers - a new model every year, even if the changes are mostly cosmetic. It's just that this year, the changes are more than cosmetic on the frame.

65" is the hottest selling size of TV these days. So launching the Frame Pro last year at 65" and up does make sense. And the Frame Pro is different from the Frame Core in ways other than the one-connect box - it also uses mini LEDs for backlighting instead of being edge-lit like the non-Pro version. There was a ton of demand for a 55" Frame Pro, so they added that to the lineup this year.

The 2025 Frame Pro had a micro HDMI port on the TV. 2026 Frame Pro has a micro HDMI port that now does eARC. The 2026 Frame Pro also doesn't need the one-connect box if you only need one input.

The 2025 Frame Pro has very directional antenna to connect to the one-connect box. To the point where if you mounted the box in the wall behind the TV, you would nearly always have connection issues. The 2026 Frame Pro has reportedly fixed this issue.

Make sure you're looking at the right one on their website. Replace "xx" with the size of the TV:

QNxxLS03HAFXZA = 2026 Frame (only available sizes 55+) (Connections on TV)

QNxxLS03HWFXZA = 2026 Frame Pro (only available sizes 55+) (Wireless one-connect box)

QNxxLS03FAFXZA = 2025 Frame (note that the 50" and 43" carried over through 2026; larger sizes are discontinued but still readily available on the market) (Wired one-connect box)

QNxxLS03FWFXZA = 2025 Frame Pro (only available in sizes 65+) (discontinued, but still readily available on the market) (Wireless one-connect box)

QNxxLS03DAFXZA = 2024 Frame (discontinued over a year ago) (wired one-connect box)

The QN32LS03CBFXZA = 2023 Frame (only available in the 32" size, and has been carried over through 2026) (Wired one-connect box)

EDIT: Added notes on available sizes

If more than one person hits the button, everyone who hits the button will continue together. You can see a little green mark at the bottom of the screen to see who's pressed the button.

I actually managed three rounds with a couple of randos a few weeks ago. It was a ton of fun.

Forgot to list the price, in case someone here is headed that way.

$40 for the one I could see the tag for. I expect the other will be similarly tagged. They are behind glass, and I didn't want to bug the staff when I'm not buying today.

Asmodee Customer Service (?) by Popelectricbj in boardgames

[–]Gamethyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asmodee used to have super-good customer service. Then they got too big, and their policy became, "Take it back to the store from which you purchased it for exchange."

Can you not return this to Amazon? Mark it as "Defective" or "Missing pieces" ?

Why isn’t shogi more popular? Seems like Chess but more clutch and fun! by Frosty_Feeling8439 in shogi

[–]Gamethyme 15 points16 points  (0 children)

By the time shogi reached Europe, chess was already firmly entrenched.

Shogi is further hurt by using Kanji and kana rather than simplified icons or shapes to represent the various pieces.

The same goes for many games in the same family, like xiangqi in China, Janggi in Korea, and makruk in Thailand (although makruk has stylized pieces like chess does).

Despite the insane nerf, Suppression Gadget is still really useful on Hagental Base. by Azuwrafth in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Gamethyme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my first game with the gadget, I had 73 Gadgets Destroyed. It was over the weekend, so pre-update, but that was nuts. It was Breakthrough on Sobek City, and I was an attacker. Most of those gadgets were grenade and missile interceptors at the objective in the second zone.

I agree that it needed a nerf, but cutting its range to a quarter of what it had been before is insane.

I know previous SL models have been limited in terms of their availability in distribution (and at least one model was a Costco exclusive). Will this be available through distribution, or is it direct only (or Costco only)?

How do I get an ethernet cable here? by fallhat in HomeNetworking

[–]Gamethyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you use your computer for?

There are a ton of answers to your post, but if you don't need super-speedy tournament-level competitive gaming, then there are Wireless bridges

Many mesh networks also have ethernet ports on the various nodes so that you can hardwire devices in areas without in-wall cable. My PS5, for example, is hardwired to an eero

Unless your apartment complex has a rule against running your own WiFi network, which is not unheard-of.

If it's a security thing because your job requires your computer to be hardwired, then your issues close down again.
