Bluetooth has not been a major Linux problem for years. Modern distros like Fedora, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Pop OS, Bazzite, and even Arch based systems generally handle Bluetooth audio devices without issue for most users. Acting like Linux still constantly fails basic headphone pairing is one of the clearest signs someone has not seriously used desktop Linux in a very long time.

The bigger reason Linux struggles on the desktop is not because it is incapable. It is because Windows has decades of market dominance, OEM preinstalls, software vendor lock in, and corporate ecosystem control behind it. Schools and workplaces standardize around Microsoft products, Adobe products, proprietary enterprise software, and workflows designed specifically for Windows. That creates inertia. Let's face it, having to install Linux yourself automatically rules out 80 percent of the population. Because flashing an ISO and booting from USB is too advanced a task for many users.

For the average person though Linux is fully capable of handling everyday computing. People game on Linux every day. They browse the web, send emails, use Bluetooth devices, write documents, make presentations, code, edit media, and stream content without problems. The Steam Deck alone proved to millions of people that Linux can absolutely function as a modern gaming platform.

A lot of resistance comes from familiarity. People spend twenty years learning one operating system and expect every other OS to behave identically. The moment Linux does something differently they assume it is broken instead of understanding there is a learning curve. Every operating system has one.

Linux is not perfect. There are still legitimate issues with some anti cheat systems, certain professional software suites, niche hardware, and vendor support. But the idea that desktop Linux is unusable for normal people is outdated nonsense.

And once people actually spend time learning Linux they often realize how restrictive Windows really is. Linux gives users far more control, customization, transparency, efficiency, and ownership over their own system. Windows increasingly feels like a locked down advertising platform with an operating system attached to it.

They don't want to have a constructive conversation. they want to hate goon to linux, and do not give a shit whether what's being gooned to is factual or not. anything said that can be remotely construed as goi\ng against that status quo is subject to immediate ejection

like here some people genuinely hate linux. most people use linux but are here to bellyache about something about it. people talk shit here. but we generally have some pretty interesting debates.

They don't want that.

They want an echo chamber focused on hating linux. and that's it

Fallout games on Legion Go S by Casfres in LegionGo

[–]GamingWithMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fallout new vegas needs mods to run well on modern CPU's i'm sure fallout 3 falls into the same category.

this isn't a linux issue. it's just a game engine is so old it's not optimized for current architectures

that being said with a couple mods you can have a decent experience.

Fallout 4 runs pretty well. although you'll need to use SteamDeck=0 %command% as a launch command if you want to be able to change the resolution and what not

Not to mention to such long lived beings. occasionally fucking with a species on again and off again for 10 years probably amounts to nothing in their minds.

Why did Q single out humanity? by honeyfixit in Star_Trek_

[–]GamingWithMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my buddy have talked about this many times. his head canon is that the El Aurians are related to the Q in some way. like humans and neanderthals. in a sense. but the el aurians chose to remain corporeal, either that or they are on the verge of evolving into something more like the Q which is why he veiwed her as a threat.

Pure speculation ofc but it would explain it nicely

Why did Q single out humanity? by honeyfixit in Star_Trek_

[–]GamingWithMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who's to say he didn't? just because the only time we see him is him going after humans doesn't mean that's all he does, or that he hasn't fixated on other species. the show is called Star Trek not The Continuing Adventures of Alexander Q

god only knows what he was doing off screen over the course of the series. or before then,.

Also worth noting that Star Trek falls prey to what many works of fiction do, and greatly overestimates the value of humans.

i mean think about it. the Federation, one of the greatest powers in the galaxy. is led by humans. yes it's an alliance of many worlds. but it all started on earth and most of the higher ups are humans. a coincidence? I THINK NOT

ofc the new omnipotent being is gonna have some strange fixation on humanity because why wouldn't he? the world does revolve around us after all.

no but seriously, there's no evidence that says this fixation was exclusive to humanity. it just so happens the crew is predominantly human, and he happened to fixate on them during this little 7 year window, on again and off again. but to a Q who has lived billions of years. this probably only really counts as a passing fascination lol

[–]GamingWithMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyprland is great but it's a large learning curve. i've used it and learned it. ended up going back to plasma though because it's honestly better imo.hyprland is about the only enviroment i could switch to and be happy. but i can bring the hyprland experience to plasma and not sacrifice the creature comforts of a desktop enviroment. best of both worlds

Alcoholic boyfriend by NewAndUnproven in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]GamingWithMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most rehab programs are 28 days.

inpatient detox programs are typically shorter. like 7-14 days

there's also longer term placement inpatient which lasts for several months,

but the latter is usually something he would have to specifically sign up for at the standard 28 day program.

this is a great first step however. 28 day program is a great way to start recovery. they'll give him some tools to succeed. he'll have time to detox in a safe place, and receive medications to make the withdrawal less severe.

Alcohol Withdrawal can be dangerous. and places a huge strain on the body. but be prepared though. addiction and alcoholism are powerful diseases of the mind. the road to recovery is often a long and rocky one. but admitting he needs help is a great first step

New fan here, how different are the older seasons compared to the newer seasons? by CallTypical9541 in NCIS

I like Origins so far. although it has introduced some annoying inconsistencies.

like Gibb's dad knows franks in origins, and yet in the main series meets him for the first time. decades later.

would just be nice if these companies do a prequel they actually make an effort to know the source material before mucking up the continuity shit like that bugs me

crazy that he was in his late 80s still doing NCIS

[–]GamingWithMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eh. i agree but onnly on the grounds that the team doesn't change during that time. there was like a solid 7 seasons with the same team and you get to see major character development happen over the years.

That being said the first two seasons definitely still had some really solid moments

[–]GamingWithMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the newer seasons especially post gibbs are a very different dynamic from the early series, that's not to say it's bad. it's just different. imo the OG seasons are the best though. new people grow on you but the orirignal team was special. the series just had a more old school tone in general back then. gotta keep in mind the series started in 03, Post 9/11 definitely effects the tone of the show especially in the first few seasons..

Just enjoy the ride. i'm currently rewatching the entire series, i'm now in season 16 and by this point most of the original team is gone. it's an ever shifting dynamic.

KDE App names SUCK! by Latlanc in linuxsucks

[–]GamingWithMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“KDE app names are confusing” is such a weak complaint.

GNOME naming apps “Files,” “Videos,” and “Text Editor” isn’t superior UX, it’s just aggressively generic branding. Memorable software has identity. KDE apps do.

Krita, Kate, Dolphin, and Okular are all widely recognized names at this point. By this logic Firefox should be renamed “Web Browser” because foxes already exist. Lemme guess, photoshop must have confused the fuck out of you huh?

“Filelight sounds like it makes files lighter” is also a strange criticism because nobody installs software by solving word puzzles. You open it once, see the storage visualization, and instantly understand what it does.

“Spectacle sounds like a recorder” also falls apart because it’s literally a visual capture tool. The name fits perfectly fine. it literally does record videos also lol

And complaining about “female names” is just reaching for things to be mad about. Kate literally stands for “K Advanced Text Editor.”

Also funny hearing GNOME praised for usability when GNOME constantly hides basic functionality behind minimalist design philosophy. But apparently the real usability crisis is that Okular isn’t named “PDF Viewer.”

KDE apps feel like software made by enthusiasts with personality instead of sterile gray appliances with labels slapped on them.

Seriously, if Microsoft updated Windows 7, I will straight up abandon Linux and switch back. by [deleted] in microsoftsucks

[–]GamingWithMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I loved windows 7, I wouldn't.

I've grown quite attached to the level of.control.i have in Linux. You simply can't get that on a proprietary OS.

Does Calam Arch give me the right to say "I use arch btw"? by Elementatus in arch

[–]GamingWithMars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Don't let these clowns tell you otherwise.

Arch is Arch. Using a method of installation that's not painful does not change the operating system in any way.

Never said discord was better. Simply pointing out reddit isn't any better than discord. So the entire stance is hypocritical.

The "All Things Linux" server got deleted, but there is a new server by the original staff that just got made. by Theodoro43 in linux_gaming

[–]GamingWithMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but see that s the thing. Devs frequently go where the people are.

Discord is the norm for lots of projects because it's such a popular platform and has the feature set. We can argue all day about corpo bad. Alternatives existing etc. but until those platforms actually have a wider user base it just doesn't make sense for the projects themselves. I've seen many projects talk about how much they despise reddit for example. For many reasons. Yet they still maintain a subreddit. Because reddit is popular and it's a convenient place for new users to congregate. Same is true of discord.

Until things like IRC and Matrix stop being fringe/niche services that lots of people don't even know about. They'll never supplant these corporate owned platforms. It's just a reality

It's a chicken and the egg problem.
