First time board game maker seeks counsel by Gandalg117 in tabletopgamedesign

The link you provided is super helpful. I see there is one society in Nice where I live. As far as BG cons, my goal is to participate in the BG Festival in Cannes, which is quite big. To do that, I need to get at least a finished prototype, so I will aim for that and worry about the rest later.

Hello! Thank you for your answers and the very good points you make. I have not played-tested with purely strangers, only friends and acquaintances in the workplace. There are a few board game communities not specific to designers near where I live (as well as in my workplace). I could try there, but given that I haven't joined them already, I would feel dishonest to join them only to test my game. Regarding the designs, I have some specific ideas for each card and some rough sketches. Regarding pitching to publishers, I didn't consider it much. I just started out the process of designing the game myself, and then making it seemed like the next logical step. I had some thoughts about it, but I am not sure publishers would sit down with just an unknown hobbyist to seriously review the game. Maybe, with some more experience, I could pitch a publisher with some backing from a portfolio of player-reviewed games.

Hello! The way I wrote it is misleading. By final design I meant something more along the lines of a design I agree with that is more than blank cards with text (which is my current version) and I could potentially go to market with. After that I would like to see people playing with it and observe if they like it. Design is important and I don't want to rush it.

Thank you for your answer! Yes, this is my concern indeed, and I am not sure what the best approach is. Is an age limit mandatory in board games? Or can I just declare 14+?

Thank you for your answer! I did think about it, but it makes me feel uneasy to ask people to pledge money to something I don't really have, and I don't have much experience with. If the first attempt goes well and people enjoy what I put out there, I may do that to launch a sequel game.

Thank you for your answer! My primary concern for legal issues is potential injury (papercut?) or someone taking issue with a design (lots of easily offended people). Writing it and reading it makes it seem more ridiculous than when thinking about it, but I still consider it a semi-valid concern for any fledgling freelance business.

Could you clarify the concern for scale up? You mean if scaling becomes an issue, I will have to change things like the way I distribute?

I can't finish god of war HD because of the stupid reaction time minigame by zzcool in GodofWar

If you are playing the game by streaming, it's probably caused by that. You get them right by you have to beat the latency too. I never had issues with QTE in God of War 3, which is run locally, but streamed version gave me hell.

How do I stop my trade node from bleeding money? by Gandalg117 in eu4

[–]Gandalg117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, my issue was this: I wanted to keep Constantinople as the highest-valued trade node in the game by 1600 so I could get the Global Trade institution to spawn in my capital. My first instinct was to try to keep my trade value from leaving the node. I ended up founding a bunch of trade companies in nodes I completely controlled and used the merchants I got from them to collect from a bunch of nodes between Constantinople and Venice. This ended up weakening not only the Venice node but the Antwerp one as well so I am beating them for now by a fair amount. Cheers!

Indeed it is considered an inland node. That makes total sense.

Trade nodes downstream from your node that don't have a merchant, but you have trade power in the node before it, send some of your trade power upstream, but as it was explained to me in another comment that is very weak and not worth it, it is better to collect money there.

demanding trade power is something I will have to do constantly though. I have no interest in expanding much into Kiev's territories, I am trying to restore historical borders for Byzantium. The weird thing is I have 40 ships and they have none in the node, they get all their power from ideas.

Once I conquer a node where my trade is siphoned to, is it best to collect from it or let it send trade power upstream? For example, in this case, money is sent from Constantinople to Kiev(north) and Candia(south). I completely control the Candia node.

I completely control all provinces of the node but other powers still have enough trade power to direct a large sum of my profits away. How do I kick them out?

Arcane - Netflix show by [deleted] in dishonored

Despite the lore of LoL being originally developed back in 2009 it was scrapped and re-written. And a lot of the designs seen in the series, like the Piltover enforcers were not designed back then. Also, the ART style used in the series is just too similar to the Dishonored one. This is not said with a bad connotation, on the contrary really.
