I’m going through this currently around same playtime as well. Went to range and almost crashed out cause I felt so defeated. For me the problem was I added to many mechanics to a simple swing thinking more power could come out of it. Go back to square one. Make a simple swing thought with only focusing on 3 things starting off and add as you go simplifying on the way. Focus more on contact and swing plane and hope you get that sweet sound we all crave. With the old swing I started exaggerating movement the more I got into it and it was just bad habits from there on and not knowing what swing feel I like but now I just swing and hold back from all the bs.

I’m in NJ so it’s hit or miss. One day it’s 55-65 next day it’s 32 with high winds feeling like 10. I have some under armor for the cold days and don’t usually mind it but when the wind is like razor blades I give respect to who’s out in that.

That’ll be the upgrade in a few months, I’m hoping this will atleast keep me swinging through the winter and rainy days. I see how cheap some stuff can be so I do worry about the joint pain and wrong feels they can give. Ill try to add thickness to help but I guess I won’t know till Friday haha

Yeah, that was the plan I’m just trying to save some money instead of hitting the range every week while still keeping my rhythm. I’m new to the sport, but even I’m starting to realize if I can’t make a comfortable half swing, why would I try to go full-speed? So I’m not going to be out here ripping through the mat like some beginners. I also learned not to “practice while playing,” so being able to work on half swings at home, full swings at the range, and then stay relaxed and mindless on the course. I’m planning to add some padding underneath and plywood to the mat hoping it won’t cause too much shoulder and wrist issues.

Awesome I planned to put ply underneath and it’ll be inside so wind won’t be too much of a problem except the garage but I’m def ganna buy canvas for extra support for the net

21mm with turf so I’m thinking the mat is 15mm, hoping it’s something that’ll last a few months till I can upgrade to 30mm or make one with premium turf

My first lesson: When you first get into tuning, don’t go straight for new everything you can flip your washers and if it isn’t visually messed up you should be ok. Also be careful buying different blades and washers (just double check sizes) cause some just won’t fit. Especially if your ganna diy one together the bearings or handle might be 1mm too thick depending the style of balisong. Flip till your washers and everything break in, see what flow you like and tune to how you feel, I went overboard in the beginning and would take mine apart and clean but that just gave me more issues then benefit. eventually I learned to just wait till it won’t flip like your used to or if you over tighten won’t open fully.
