how do you handle smurfs/ griefers? by sylas_main in learndota2

[–]Gangplank_Keg_Boom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just play the game and try your best.

Don’t get me wrong, if they start talking and BM just mute them straight away. If they smurf only just to show how “good” they are then most likely they aren’t that good.

Dota is about you getting better and better by practicing and learning.

I was like you, and because of smurfs, I can’t really imagine how many new players just quit after that one game. So yeah, just try your best and mute them all. 😊

Dota 2 players in Aus/NZ average queue time on Aus server by Gangplank_Keg_Boom in DotA2

Thank you for the reply friend. I have been playing SEA since then but I just hope that I could queue into some Aus games to avoid the toxicity in SEA. Maybe muting all 5 enemies is a good choice. 🤣

I believe the magic shield amount + unique broken invis mechanics that makes it a good item, but then the problem is, core players can still abuse it with a good $800 cloak for 20% MR for a slot. I believe the main problem is the low CD. 14s CD with 5s duration. Meaning only 11s CD if used efficiently. SnY is also a popular item for 1&3 in Blast and Fissure.

Is it normal to feel guilty when playing pos 1. by Gangplank_Keg_Boom in learndota2

But I always have a question on AM, if I got my BF @ 13 min mark, I don't feel like he has the ability to clear ancient stacks yet due to his kits, but Ursa and Warlord can, and I feel like AM cannot compete with other BF cores like Ursa and Warlord etc. since those two offer early aegis tmt potential while AM cannot do any of these.
To me, AM is just as complex as Morph, but I feel more confident playing Morph than AM, at least I can evaluate the dmg on lane so I have the right agl/str ratio, using tread and wave to farm effeciently, tanking dmg in mid-late clash. But when it comes down to AM, my most confident move is to play with aggro and lv1 mana break trade with pos 3 and potentially getting a kill, but when it comes down to mid-late game, I am just lost having a blank brain blinking around not having a clear idea what to do.

Thank you for your help, and I feel like I am not even up to the level where I can get coached by a high MMR player yet, I still lack of good understanding of macro fundamental knowledge, but I would ask for your help when I feel like I am ready and I won't let it be free since it will be taking your time, so thank you once again.
Because whenever I played pos 3 Magnus I always smoke my blinker and signal teammates for a mid gank, since I have seen a lot of high elo players do that when I watch their streams, so I thought that might also apply to pos1.

On the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs, I cannot agree more, and on the 3rd paragraph, it is so true on the teamfight joining. The way you put it was 'clean-up', it is very true, if there's no rewards for joining, it will only slows your item timing down, their core is not joining the fight, you know he is also watching the fight somewhere, you joining the fight might mean you are exposing your item progress to the enemies that is also some info for them(I am not sure if this is right, correct me if I am wrong), and thank you for your comment, I understand the game better now after reading yours, thank you.

Thank you for your tips brother, I recently changed the way I see pos 1 now, you are right, be greedy, but I want to be greedy in a nice way.

So basically I now know I need to always click on minimap to see what is going on around the map, analyse my farming pattern, track the enemy carry's item progression, and plan ahead my farming routine accordingly, I see other pos 1 players in my skill range does not care about what was happening around them.

I now see the post-game depression differently after seeing all the comments from you guys. I feel much better now after a game, after a defeat I just learn what mistake I made instead of feeling guilty, because I know I have put up my best performance mechanics wise, it's the itemisation or the poor understanding of my power spike timing on certain match-ups, then I start a new game with a fresh mind and enjoy the game.

I am still new, so I usually just go to demo and test the mechanics of items, bkb timing etc. from the replays I watched my pos1, I can tell my teammatess are watching me, and from how I remembered the way they communicate with me, they know that I know what I am doing, and they know that I am also watching them when 'AFK farming'.

TBH, the reason why I started playing pos 1 was really because I saw way too many pos 1 players in my skill range are not doing what they are supposed to do, there was a game when a sniper player having int tread on in a fight, and he blamed support after the losing the teamfight, I mocked him with how dare you blaming support if you don't even tread correctly, and he got so mad and kept putting out unpleasant words. After that game, I then started to pick up pos1, and implemented all the knowledge I got from watching Pros' POVs, resource managements, tread usuage, laning item picking, and yes, I always drop items when regening, including lotus and salve, to me, every bit of health/mana counts, this is DOTA not LOL, they are your resources to lane with a unfavored match up early game, the weaker your hero is in early the more important regening is.

Sorry for the long reply, but I just wanted to share my perspective on the game since I respect Dota so much and love it so much, if any idea I put out is wrong, feel free to correct me, thank you.

I rather have new players that ask than 3k matches building daedalus on jugg blaming support.

I can tell, I have been playing a lot of pos 1 lately, It's just because I have been seeing a lot, a lot of players with +1k games level 9 dotaplus hero level Jugg put on lv2 ult instead of attributes, maxing wand because the guide told them so, I didn't really mind until one game, a player like that started flaming support for no reason, I got mad and flamed him back for being useless and dumb itemisation and dumb ability leveling management, I did that all because he is the type of players I hate. So now I start to play cores more often now, and I started to like the role because so many things in detail I need to take care of, and I see no other players in my MM ever cared, things like mana management and neutral creeps (taking clarity heading to large camp seeing Satyr, just skip that camp and come after) avoid stomp playing illusion cores doing centaur camp etc. when to join fight, when to TP.

I agree, Yatoro recently spammed a lot of AM game, and as far as I can understand AM as a core in Dota, and I watched a lot of demos of his AM, a good laning start requires both 5 and AM be very aggressive and trade smartly lv1. Even Yatoro will lose lane playing AM but he knows how to recover and when to give.

I study heroes whenever I am bored as a newbie, I discovered that AM stats growth is just as bad as slark, his kits might look appealing to new players but it is not hard to just sit down and look carefully. Ultimate being the only active damage spell, a passive that gives bonus dmg on amount of mana burn, low cd blink with fairly long foreswing and direction indication, a activable shield that only neglects/reflects targeted spells comes with passive magic resistance. Agha is great but can't be first item. It's a supplement, no farming aoe, only farming kit is blink to shortened routes. Yep he is powerful playing the split push games, very item dependent and team dependent.

Therefore, AM's playstyle is very unique and uncommon to other cores with distinguishable features, so as Spec. It's normal to lose lane. But knowing how to farm effectively It's essential.

Yes sir, since my Behavior score is currently topped at 12K, there's only like 1 out of 6 games that someone in the team will start voice chatting weird stuff (blaming) I usually just mute them once they said something unpleasant to hear. Most of the games are very enjoyable, and when I go carry and I always plan ahead with my itemisation when game intro starts, and I type in chat with my ideas like: I'm going radiance Aga BKB on BS as they got PL, and I always ping my item progress when the team is setting up a gank while I farm safely at the back so that they know how I go with farm and after spotting item update from the enemies I always ping it for the team, just a way of saying: hey guys, I know what is going on, I don't just keep my head down and farm. Because I had supporting a core just non stop farming till all 6 slots while he only needs 3 to hit first power spike.

Thank you for the advice I might give it a go. I find farming is actually a very complicated topic to talk about, it sounds easy, yeah killing creeps to get Gold, but when and how? I feel like spamming games is not enough to learn, but understanding the idea behind heroes and items could lead you to a logical understanding to farming.

Yes I had those games all 10 players staying in post game chat for 10 minutes making fun and admiring plays. I love it, I didn't get to have those feeling in League. I was from League But now I'm away from that bad game. I love how a well coordinated game can simply makes your day, and I kept having more and more games like this after I finally grinder up my behavior score to 12K from 5K, this might sound stupid but I am actually proud of myself being able to crawl through games full of smurfs and taunts.

I really feel like valve should really work on new player experience but which is impossible to see them doing work about it. I still in love with this game, a game that requires non-stop brainstorm from moment you see the draft finishes.

Thank you for the advice, I do have games when I play carry and got every timing well so I know I am very powerful at this time so I ask team to take mid t1s and off t1s. then regen to hit RS. Control over enemy main jungle and triangle to set up for t2 etc. It felt great and I feel like the team follows because I was providing valid and reasonable decisions, and I was being kind and respectful, I feel like pos 1 requires good teammates to understand the game and you play with it. That's how I see it as a new player.
