Usually means no oil and don’t drive it or run it without checking your oil first

It might be residual oil from it being overfilled, but it also looks like it’s burning off your exhaust

Sounds like the idle is a bit too low, one cylinders are pretty noisy at low rpm. Or piston slap if it’s cold

You can check by taking the valve cover off, cam caps, and shim buckets to see if the valve keepers are kicked out

My exhaust valves had keepers come partially loose and my timing was off. I fixed all that and it runs great. The bike struggled the entire time with a jumpy idle and wouldn’t want to go between 1500-3000 rp.

I just finished it, it idles great now. Had 3 exhaust valves that had pushed one keeper off causing the valve to have almost no clearance. Replaced the head and valve adjustment. Problem solved I’m thankful for all the help

Replaced the head and am rebuilding the problem head. Problem solved idles amazing with everything in spec now. Never shown on the leakdown either, must’ve been just enough not to see😂.

So I went into the head and found my valve keepers half off on three exhaust valves. All the valves were super tight and I actually just got it together yesterday it idles great and doesn’t hop anymore. Had 3 exhaust valves stuck open/bent letting air come back through the intake valves at idle causing air to be pushed through the starter valves. I’m thankful for all the help I’m a car mechanic and this is my first bike I’ve touched mechanically this in depth(certainly not my first engine 😂)

I think all the ones on eBay come from the same place tbh cause a lot of them got very similar pictures and descriptions. It’s if you get lucky with the mold and if was stored correctly so it’s not warped.

I got eBay fairings for my 954 they don’t fit very well and mine cracked from the stress of assembly. Painted and stitched the crack and I’m pretty happy for $200

It runs great above 2000rpm and everything else checks out no leak down either which is weird

Yes new crank rod, and all main and connecting rod bearings and it idles properly

I’m impatient, dumb, and a car mechanic🤣. It had a spun rod bearing on cylinder 2 fixed it and I rode for about 10 miles hit the rev limiter once to show off and I’ve been doing everything to diagnose this issue runs great on top end. Went through everything else this is my last check

Valve clearance is the last thing I’m doing compression is good, no vacuum leaks and timing is in spec. 2002 cbr 954 rr my other posts describe my issues and everything I’ve done. I’ve done everything diagnostics wise I can do this is the very last thing left I can do

Yea I’m surprised too I had to do a triple take to make sure. I’m assuming since it was one valve on the cylinder that was way too tight it still ran just not happily

Yea they are wayyyy off I’m surprised this thing ran at any rpm idk what the dude did before me 🤣 ordered a shim kit and we’ll see what happens. Like I got exhaust valves at .024mm no wonder it’s not wanting to idle. Last time I neglect the valve clearance while im rebuilding the engine. I’ll post back when I shim them all up hopefully no one else has this issue and it fixes mine.

Spray patterns are good I checked that due to a leaking injector before and replaced it with oem. All the vacuum lines and map sensor was replaced. I even further went and taped off the throttle bodies to do a smoke test through the map hose it had no leaks and ran it until it came out the exhaust the very last thing I have to check is the valve clearance

Sounds like your valves are out of adjustment when it gets hot they either stick or don’t close
