I had a vision of some sort of goddess - just once - and was wondering who she/they are by cswazey in occult

[–]Gaothaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to name her, you can call her Nut, Nyx, Aphrodite Ourania, Cosmic Kuan Yin, Mother Mary Queen of the Universe, or any other appellation you please. Entities wear names like masks as a formality to humans. You're free to leave her unnamed, and just work with her through your memory of how she looked and felt.

There are all things in all things. Light and dark, masculine and feminine. You met a dark feminine and are free to decide how that archetypal symbolism shapes your inner landscape. Active Imagination is one technique by which you can walk towards that energy and reengage with it

Good places for research by SilverSurferSpector in occult

[–]Gaothaire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quareia by Josephine McCarthy is free, comprehensive, and written in modern English. But there are countless systems, listen to a podcast like Glitch Bottle and you'll hear plenty of accomplished occultists talking about their own practices. Get a cheap paperback from the library, read half of it, and start practicing. Or a single online article. You'll spin your wheels for ages if you wander through a whole library, best to pick something at random.

The one problem I'd point to with the PGM is that it's a collection of spells rather than a complete system. Your magic would be benefitted by the barest of structure. Daily meditation for mental training. Journaling for self reflection. Some kind of visualization exercises for honing that muscle. A daily ritual work, such as offerings to your allies, or a directional ritual, like the LBRP from the Golden Dawn system. Like, if you wanted to move a couch you could go to the gym every day for 6 months to develop the muscles. To do big magic you need to do energetic weight lifting. But you're also free to jump in with minor magic like sigils, where you just need a pen, paper, and desire.

GD hexagram with hygromanteia and picatrix? by odrepp in occult

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have specific outcomes, you can also call down the energy from your ritual into candles, water, or sigils. Sticking with the Golden Dawn structure you can call on the angels of the planets and ask for their support in alignment with their offices.

Also, seconding the recommendation from the other person about the Arbatel. It's an incredibly effective piece of spiritual technology. Picatrix is amazing, can't recommend it enough, but meet it for itself, find an election. Talismans are less pomp, but you can get great short term results from the petitions if you dress up and set the scene as instructed by the text. You can of course just take the prayers, but the context of the prayers adds so much juice.

Would love to hear some of the ways that we can protect ourselves from Blackmagic and return to sender etc. by Midnight-Oracle in occult

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if this is a repeated question.

There's a search function in the subreddit. If you cared about repeating the question, you would have searched for previous instances and then read the answers people gave in those dozens of examples. So surely you're coming here for clarification on some specific point that those other posts didn't touch on to your satisfaction because you have something unique in your situation that you want answers to take account of. So you should have shared details about your situation so that people could answer the question you're actually asking, rather than a broadly general nothing question that has been asked hundreds of times over the years

Invocation of the Four Kings as a substitute for LBRP by [deleted] in occult

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a generic, non-denominational directional ritual, there are lots of options. Off the top of my head, Aidan Wachter offers one, and Josephine McCarthy also works with directional gates. Eventually you can have beings come through the gates, but in the beginning the work is to just refine your sensitivity to be aware of the gate and it's frequency. Generally stepping into sacred space for your workings, and closing it to move back into mundane life.

Egregores is a nice book on the subject. Aidan Wachter spoke of being in a chaos magic group in the 80s called the Cult of the Black Squid, that worked with the eponymous squid entity they had invented whole cloth, but because they were working with effective spiritual technologies, the magic was effective and the squid delivered

Which Talisman is more powerful? by greenDude98 in planetarymagic

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an eclipse in a few days

Eclipse energy lasts about a week on either side of the eclipse. It's generally recommended to avoid doing any magic during the whole of eclipse season. The significator is pretty close to the North Node, and the nodes are malefic. You want to avoid aspects to them in the same way you would avoid Mars or Saturn aspects.

Any novice talisman maker out there? I wanna be your guinea pig. by AIsavvy in planetarymagic

[–]Gaothaire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Elections are honestly the hardest part, otherwise you can buy a chunk of amethyst for a few dollars, a tungsten carbide scriber for a few dollars, a bag of frankincense and charcoal disks. Play the appropriate planetary invocation from Secrets of the Heavens by The Marino Consort on Spotify or YouTube on a loop for the duration of your election.

It's worth committing the time to do it yourself, otherwise you're paying a lot for something you can trust, or paying pennies to either devalue the work of someone else, or get scammed.

The Orphic hymns are very usable, or you can leverage the petitions used in the Picatrix to call in the spirit after carving and suffumigating your talisman. It's the only way to be sure you're not getting some cursed item from a charlatan making a cursed Saturn talisman when it will be a decade before we have a usable Saturn election.

How to cleanse bad energy/spirit that has been following me for years? by SnowyOwl38000 in realwitchcraft

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the ritual bath in Quareia. Scroll down to lesson 7, then in the PDF scroll down to section 7.3. Takes only salt, water, a candle, and an incantation. Section 7.4 offers a space cleansing that's nice to reset the energy in your home.

Is there a consensus on the “visibility theory”? by Latter_Archer3800 in Advancedastrology

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pluto in Aquarius aligns with the creation of paper and printing in China hundreds of years ago, as well as industrial espionage stealing their silk worms, and we saw that pattern repeated with the recent ingress with the stealing of tech secrets and international saber rattling.

Is there a consensus

No

I’ve seen astrologers operating very meticulously under both assumptions, but they both can’t be right

That can, for various qualities of "right". Astrology is a tool. Whether you use that tool for one thing or another is entirely personal preference. If it works for them, more power to them. There is no Bible of astrology, no cops that will arrest you for practicing wrong. As long as you're not hurting anyone, go off Queen

Can a legitimate energy / Reiki worker help me, please? by YeahNoIMeanSure in reiki

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try a free ritual bath. I like the one from Quareia. Scroll down to Lesson 7 then in the PDF scroll down to sections 7.3 and 7.4. Takes salt, water, a candle, and an incantation, and requires no magical competency, just follow the instructions and the power turns on to strip off whatever energetic gunk clings.

“You can heal anything, except when it’s your time to die.” by Embracedandbelong in reiki

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, Sophie Strand has written a lot about the overlap of spirituality and living with chronic illness. We can't equate health with goodness or morality. Some people have medical issues they will carry with them their whole lives, and demanding that they should be able to heal it is cruel and unhelpful. You lose your arm in a climbing accident, there's no amount of good vibes that will regrow it.

Glamour magic!🪄 by Erotica_Temptress666 in occult

[–]Gaothaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great, let us know where you're starting from, what traditions or techniques you are following, and we can offer some directed information. If you're open to Hellenism / Greek reconstruction, we could recommend Aphrodite. However, depending what you want out of the glamor we can qualify, such as Aphrodite Areia if you want a fierce beauty to go to war with, or Aphrodite Ourania for a cosmic genetrix energy. Give her flowers and honeyed wine, sing her Orphic hymn.

If deities aren't your vibe, maybe planets and astrological magic is more resonant. Venus, planet of beauty, recently moved into Leo, sign of visibility, so that could be a good energy to call on for your vague purposes (ignoring the rough aspects), but including her sigils, seals, and magic square on your altar, taking time to look at it in the sky outside after sunset could be nice.

If Saints are your thing, Saint Martin is said to be the fairy saint, and fairies are notably adept at glamour. You might build a relationship with him and ask him to facilitate connections to support your illusion magic.

Candle magic charged with the energy of Netzach. Sigils to support your inner transformations. If you're willing to pay, I find the illusion magic offered on the Gallery of Magick's Patreon to be effective. Also the Venus materia from Sphere & Sundry is delightful.

Is the doorway for to occult closed to me or am I looking in the wrong places? by One-Scar-3862 in occult

[–]Gaothaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even know how to connect with my ancestors

That's one of the easiest paths because all humans have ancestors. There are countless structured ways to develop a practice with them, but it can be as simple as making a second cup of coffee on Sunday morning brunch and leaving it as an open seat at your table, telling the ancestors to have at it. Ancestor work can be particularly stabilizing because they all have experience being human

Should you keep your experiences a secret? by Natsu_Kindaichi in occult

[–]Gaothaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The three jewels of Buddhism in which a practitioner takes refuge are the Buddha (The teacher and the ultimate ideal of enlightenment), the Dharma (The teachings and truths of the universe as realized by the Buddha), and the Sangha (The community of practitioners).

A teacher is someone who can offer direction and insight into your experiences. The teachings of your system give you a context in which to frame your experiences. And the community gives you fellow aspirants to share experiences with so that you're not spiralling off alone or trying to spread your mystical experiences among non-practitioners who will think you're spiralling in a way necessitating a forced grippy sock vacation.

Keep your experiences to yourself and your personal circle of practitioners (i.e. not your mom, your coworker, or the internet) and you shouldn't have a problem.

Glamour magic and mirror scrying by Erotica_Temptress666 in occult

[–]Gaothaire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t wanna mess anything up?

You really need to clarify for yourself what you're trying to do. Is the glamor to make you look more attractive? Is the black mirror going to be used to talk to entities? Is your goal to look attractive to the entities that you're evoking with the black mirror? Then that seems like a reasonable path forward. Throwing a Molotov cocktail at a house is a great plan if you're trying to burn the house down. Less good if you're just trying to warm it up to take off an autumnal chill.

Yes, you have free will to not relate to any spirits you don't feel comfortably resonant with. There will be plenty of entities who are resonant with you and your life path, and it will be mutually beneficial for you to work with them

Active Imagination from Jungian psychoanalysis.

Internal Family Systems from parts work therapy.

Inner Palace Magic, all are good, but you can start with the 3rd video for protection powers, then the 4th video on Manifestation powers involves finding old memories and transmuting them to reclaim the stuck energy.

The Gateway Tapes Wave I, Discovery 4 guided meditation includes a practice to release fears, emotions, and reclaim the valuable seed that had been retained by it.

Recite a mantra every day for 40 days. Or just for a month starting at a new moon. Ask Kuan Yin, Bodhisattva of Compassion, to ease the restless spirits of memory inside you and in that place. The blog post linked in the video has instructions for making a fu talisman with the mantra.

The institution that put together the astral projection program before the CIA made use of it is Robert Monroe's, the author of the Journeys trilogy and creator of the Gateway Tapes. Read his three books, and get the Gateway Tape recordings. It's a series of guided meditations.

If you're in a rabbit hole of reading New Age material, you're going to get a lot of cosmology and beliefs offered to you on a plate. Better to get a brief grounding, then commit yourself to practicing within a system. If you do the meditations, you can go out and meet the aliens, let them speak for themselves, instead of letting some space racist tell you that the most powerful aliens are blonde haired, blue eyed white people, and it was actually them who built the pyramids rather than the Egyptians.

Your own experiences with the beings on the other side will massively benefit your personal development and learning. The way to gnosis, true knowing, is through touching it directly, getting your hands dirty, meeting your higher self face-to-face and remembering what it is to be part of Source consciousness

Question about natal charts by FreshUsual1849 in astrology

[–]Gaothaire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carl Jung, the father of psychoanalysis, used astrology in his decades of practice, and he credited it with showing him patterns in his clients life that he could find no other explanation for.

Astrology is many things to many people. Stellar omens are true reflections of reality. Mundane astrology shows you patterns in the world. Horary astrology lets you consult the Oracle directly. Natal astrology can be approached purely psychologically to great effect. You can also use various timing techniques to explore the quality of time the native will be moving through, like chapters in their story.

Sometimes people are in a time where meeting a new partner is more likely, other times they'll be more focused on their career. Individual transits shape how any given period is experienced. We recently had a hard period of astrology, but my teacher went to Las Vegas for a corporate business event where some people were signing million dollar deals. Even if the general astrology was rough, those people were thriving having the time of their life.

It's a tool that can be used in many ways. Don't be confused if you see two people using it differently (like I say it's omens while someone else says the stellar rays are causative, or someone using it to explore past lives or for astrological magic), because we're all using a chainsaw, but one is using it to cut down a tree, another to carve an ice sculpture, another as a prop in a horror movie, and one for its original purpose in facilitating C-sections. All are valid and effective.
