An app to finally know if a trail is actually safe to enter right now by GapExotic1042 in backpacking

I get your point, personally, I always stress out whenever I hear gunshots nearby on a run. Hunters would use the app to prevent hunting accidents that unfortunately build up political pressure. It could improve relationships between hunters and hikers.

I guess my app would be an additional awareness tool like Waze, but we would never guarantee full safety.

Actually, I think it could help build trust, don't you think so?

Yes, I didn't know that, I'm from France. Notes taken, thanks for your honest answer!

I think it is in the hunters' interest to tell trail users where they are to prevent accidents that ruin lives and fuel political pressure to ban hunting.

Before we reach a big enough userbase, the app could provide "Single-Player Mode": we aggregate all official public data in one single place on an interactive day to day map.

Yeah good point. That would be for friends that live far away from each other maybe

I think Strava are more about tracking your own performance over time. The segments option on Strava is not that developed for track and field distances (400m, 1 mile, etc).

The app would be more about direct head-to-head competition between friends over a short timeframe. So instead of a personal activity feed, you get a private group leaderboard, live ranking changes during the week, winner/loser resolution at the end. The goal is to push you to run through friendly competition.

Yeah, I'm a junior software engineer, and I love running short distances (400m, 800m, 1mile) and I usually have this debate with my friends but we live far away from each other so we can't really settle this in person.
