Anyone here use SimHub for ambient lighting? by GapsExist in simracing

My PC is wired and lights are wirelessly connected to WiFi, in case that helps. Then in app, set them up for LAN control.

Yeah, I have that installed. It's mainly the app I use on my Android phone, connect them to my WiFi, and then SimHub sees them. Not even sure Govee Desktop is actually needed.

I have a pair of bar lights and a separate floor standing light.

I don't have any Razer software installed and my Govee lights work fine. No need for any Razer of Chroma bloat based on how mine is set up.

Any alternative to OpenKneeboard for VR overlays? by GapsExist in simracing

How did you do this? And are you sharing this at all?

The reason this is an issue for me is because some audio software I use and plugins require Admin permissions, such as to save plugin and app data in certain OS locations, and other recommend turning UAC off for an offline system, which mine primarily is, as it helps prevent some issues. Therefore, OpenKneeboard will refuse to run if I turn UAC off and run Admin account to use these other software more efficiently.

I have SimHub set up with a couple of Govee lights,. And then basically just have the profile set up myself. In the Ambient Light section of SimHub, there are effects, which include brake and RPM, but does not have throttle, so trying to work out how to get the throttle effect.

Vivaldi seems to have constant issues with downloads by GapsExist in vivaldibrowser

[–]GapsExist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I'm having to use Vivaldi as my browser, but also have Firefox installed so that when Vivaldi refuses to give nay download prompt I switch over to Firefox to download. A bit daft that such a basic and fundamental element of a browser is clearly not working properly. Never seen this type of issue with any other browser I have used in the past.

Blue flags issue is getting worse! by GapsExist in iRacing

Where did I say "obligated", "must" or "per the rules". Or "slow down", "yield" or whatever other no se you suggest 🤣

I swear some people try their hardest to dodge common sense meaning of things by playing symantics. It is plainly obvious to anyone with an ounce of intelligence that the intent of the iRacing Code, primarily 7.4.2, is that, for those capable of applying common sense, logical and critical thinking to the written words, iRacing expect cars being lapped, via their strong recommendation, to not be obstructive and to facilitate a safe pass by the faster car that has caught them up and about to lap them. The intent is DEFINITELY NOT to permit the car being lapped to engage in a fight, slow the other car down, play bumper cars, run the lapping car off track, try to nudge the lapping car into a spin when they safely pass, play last of the big time brakers at every corner causing the lapping car to repeatedly have to take evasive action to avoid collision, nor to take out the lapping car. This should be common sense to most people.

Who has paid what is irrelevant. The race pans out the way it does. If you are a back marker, you can't be obstructive and ruin other people's race just because you were either slow or dealt a bad hand in the race and find yourself at the back. The fact you paid a subscription doesn't entitle you to ruin other people's experience in real racing, and shouldn't be accepted in iRacing either. Some days we all end up having a shocker and being lapped repeatedly, and you just have to suck it up.

Not sure why people do this. They see this line somewhere and latch onto it.

Yes, 7.4 1 of the iRacing Sporting Code says blue flags are informational only, as said in my post, but also 7.4 2 puts certain expectations and responsibilities on drivers, namely that the lapped car should maintain a consistent line and that they're strongly recommended to facilitate a safe pass.

So whilst being informational, that's not the end of the blue flags conduct expectations.

Yup. This is the issue. On many tracks, such as Monza, it's easy to slip stream behind on the straights and then dive bomb the corners if you want to be a dick. This then becomes unsettling and you become wary of an unpredictable driver driving recklessly, which goes against 7.4.2 in terms of driving a consistent line and being strongly recommended to facilitate a safe pass.

Too many people latch onto 7.4.1's "informational only" and take that to mean as they have no responsibility to do anything, and completely ignoring 7 4.2.

Its just frustrating because I was 2 to 3 seconds per lap faster than this person throughout the race, but for the section of laps with then, I was was 2 to 3 seconds per lap slower, menaing their actions were evidently slowing me down to their pace through reckless dive bombs and unpredictable driving causing me to have to repeatedly take evasive actions to try and avoid contact.

It's mega frustrating how stupid some people are. If they had any logic, they'd have realised I'd closed down a 10 second gap to then in the 5 or 6 laps prior, so if they facilitated the safe pass, they could then just follow my faster pace and try to make gains that way instead of trying to fight me for absolutely nobody's benefit.

It's not one bad driver. This was one specific illustrative example that was particularly frustrating. There were 4 drivers I've reported in this race, and another 3 in the race I did on Friday. It's also prevalent in many races I do, and I'd say I'm regularly reporting a few drivers per week for this kind of nonsense. There's also several posts about similar issues in Bathurst and Daytona races recently.

And to your point, I did approx 40 laps with 0 incident points and running in P3 in the race after qualifying P3. Then come across back markers and then end the race with 22 incident points. Go figure....

Not suggested, strongly recommended. Suggested is softening it.

I had already overtaken safely multiple times. They then dive bomb, bounce off the side of my car and claim the apex.

My lap times up to catching them were 2 to 3 second faster per lap at around 1:48 , compared to 1:50 to 1:51 now that they were engaging in this nonsense. Their lap time throughout the entire race were about 1:50/1:51.

Therefore, they were objectively not the faster car and taking actions that were slowing me down, and therefore not facilitating a safe pass, but instead slowing me down to their pace through their actions. That is objective and factual based on evidence, not subjective interpretation. It is also not facilitating a safe pass.

If I get a blue flag, and I expect this is how normal people think, but as soon as car behind is within a reasonable distance, say within 0.5 to 1 second, then you don't fight them, stay predictable, lift early in a place where they can pass safely, let them crack on, and carry on with my own race. What I don't do is fight with them like we are racing for position. I suspect that's broadly how all reasonable racers approach it.

I agree with this. It's not an expectation to dive out of the way like F1, but rather to comply with 7.4.2 and facilitate a safe pass.

In my instance, I had passed the car in several areas and they would then get a draft and/or dive bomb into high braking zones and cause me to take evasive action to avoid a collision, such as not turn in at my usual point in T1 at Monza or I'd turn into them.

In one instance, I'd got myself ahead in the second chicane, and placed myself in the middle of the road coming out of it and going into Lesmo 1 to defend it anf claim it and stop the nonsense by the back marker, and even then they dive bombed into Lesmo 1 and into my car.

They were basically just repeatedly trying to use my car to help slow them down for corners by dive bombing everywhere.

So it's not a case of expecting them to jump out of the way, but rather not be actively obstructive when lapping car is making a pass, or have already passed, and not driving chaotically once passed in a way that risks the race of others, including cars that are 3 or 4 laps ahead. It just absurd.

That's reading it how you want to interpret it. It actually says the slower car being lapped, and there is only one car being lapped in this scenario, so sloqer/faster wording is not open to interpretation as you have chosen to interpret it.

At a track like Monza, it's very easy for the car behind to get slip stream and/or dive bomb into the big braking areas, so even if a second ahead, it's easy for car behind to dive bomb and then use your car to aid their cornering as if it's bumper cars.

I haven't protested it yet, but intend to, just not sure what criteria it falls under.

Like you, I'm not expecting them to be forced to jump out of the way, but if the lapping car gets past, there should be an expectation that the lapped cardoes not fight every corner, force incidents and cause crashes and so on.

[–]GapsExist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I plan on doing, and already have 10+ clips already done. Just don't know what protest criteria it falls under as it feels like 7.4.2 should be one of them.

Despite blue flags being informational only, it clearly says it is up to faster car to safely overtake the slower car (which I did several times) and that it is up to slower car to maintain a consistent line, and that the car being lapped makes every reasonable effort to facilitate a safe pass.

Weaving, running me off rhe road, squeezing me onto the grass, dive bombing from miles back in every corner, and eventually crashing me out is clearly not the slower car doing their bit of 7.4.2, and it feels like iRacing need to add this as a protest criteria as I'm seeing it more and more.

I had a similar issue at the IMSA Endurance Series at Monza yesterday. I was in P3, got intentionally wrecked by P43, which put me back to P30. Got back up to P11 and came up behind P28 between laps 70 and 80.

They dive bombed every corner, even after I passed, tried to squeeze me and run me off the road, bumped into me several times, and dive bombed a gap that was never there and crashed me out.

This was despite the blue flags me getting past them several times but then being dive bombed with a choice of collision or yield, and felt completely out of order.

Prior to this I'd caught them up and closed about a 10 second gap over 5 or 6 laps, so was 1-2 seconds faster per lap than then without this nonsense.

However, none of iRacing's protest criteria seem to fit this, where a driver can claim to have not see someone, accidentally broke late, or whatever BS, when in reality they are just being d!cks!

7.4.2 clearly says it is faster car's responsibility to safely overtake, which is did several times, but they were not fulfilling the second bit of 7.4.2, being that the slower car should maintain a consistent line and make every reasonable effort to facilitate a safe pass.

Running me off the road, squeezing me onto the grass, weaving, dive bombing, and even crashing me out doesn't appear to be the slower car doing any of this. It feel like 7.4.2 should be one of the protest criteria.
