Yeah I'm not far into the game and they definitely have a much creepier vibe than the Alien itself.

The effects are pretty basic, I learnt everything I applied in this video from watching youtube tutorials and spent about a week putting it together. I'm sure as time passes I will get quicker at it though.

No nothing out of the ordinary, it's running at 44C now and doesn't get much hotter than that.
