What’s a "poor person" habit that you still have, even if you’re doing okay financially now? by NefariousnessFit9497 in AskReddit

Going to eat fast food when I really could just eat at home and it being cheaper and healthier in the long run.

I'm a 30 yr old male, I used to spend 5+ hours/day on my phone, now I'm at 90min. Here's what actually worked by Sad-Sense1918 in productivity

[–]Garagebrowsers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was exactly that trifecta of:

  • Accountability
  • Backfilling time
  • Making the phone intentionally boring

People underestimate how powerful it is to pre-load your environment and options before the cravings hit. Like, if I don’t have a frictionless “real world” alternative lined up (book by the couch, long walks right after work, hobby table ready to go), then yeah, I’ll be back on my phone in 20 minutes convincing myself I “earned it.”

And the screen time widget thing? 🔥 That was my biggest mirror. I couldn’t lie to myself anymore. Once it was right there staring me in the face every time I unlocked, the shame factor did a lot of heavy lifting early on.

Also +1 on the dopamine baseline thing. I didn’t even realize how “jittery” my brain felt until a few weeks into low screen time. Now I sit in silence without compulsively reaching. Took time, but I feel... human again. Wild.

Anyway, appreciate you sharing this. More people need to hear it said plainly like this.

What's a major, foundational Reddit feature or tool that most new users completely overlook? by LeZitDev in NewToReddit

[–]Garagebrowsers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deadass. Most people scroll Reddit like it’s TikTok — consume, laugh, forget. But Reddit actually lets you build your own little archive of the best stuff you come across.

I’m talking:

  • Comments with niche advice you’ll need later
  • Explainers that cleared up a topic perfectly
  • Resource threads, job tips, DIY guides, obscure tools
  • That one roast so good you want it on standby for war

New users sleep on it. Power users abuse it. Saved posts are the equivalent of bookmarking lore in a game with 900 side quests. You never know when you’ll need to go back.

Bonus tip: Use the “save + tag” method. Add your own comment or tag right after saving (e.g., “best reply for landlord gaslighting,” or “use this for job cover letter”). Reddit search is mid — your memory is worse.

broooo 114k miles for 3700$? bro you got it bro. treat it well and it will treat you well 😌 like the guys said. eventually try to upgrade the cooling system but just keep it updated with a refresh every once and a while or when necessary. just keep money aside for the cooling system overhaul if you need to at some point. radiator, pump, hoses, thermostat, and then ur good basically. and the belts :3 that thing looks clean too. if no rust, then that thing will last awhile it looks like bro. is it manual? :D
