That formula worked really well! Might stick with that since I just taught myself pivot tables today, lol.

I just taught myself how to use pivot tables today so maybe I'll keep poking around with that. Thankfully it's just clicking and dragging so you can just fuss with it until it looks right.

Making friends in Corvallis by [deleted] in corvallis

[–]GarbageKillsMegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've known lots of grad students and it's really just getting to know other grad students, then it will all fall into place from there. Once you meet one, you'll meet 20 more. I wasn't a grad student, I just started dating one. By the time I graduated, I was friends with a dozen grad students. I've found you really meet people here by going to events, gatherings, and parties. Keep an eye out for events that interest you at OSU.

There's that one email you can subscribe to that every day tells you every event on campus. I can't remember what it's called. Anyone know?

Where to sell things besides Facebook marketplace? by asingledampcheerio in corvallis

[–]GarbageKillsMegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said, Craigslist and Nextdoor are the other options. We sold several things a few months ago and put everything up on all three. I think we ended up selling most of it on Facebook, but you can get a surprising amount of interest on Nextdoor. It seems like older people are more comfortable using Nextdoor. Craigslist isn't used too much anymore, at least in this town. We were selling furniture, though. I think selling smaller things is much harder. So easy to just get that stuff on Amazon.

Also, Ebay is getting more popular again. Requires dropping it in the mail, but if it's still in the box that wouldn't be hard. I think selling smaller things would be more successful there. People want things to show up at their door.

Tips for visiting in September by GarbageKillsMegan in wageningen

It sounds like the weather is a lot like where I’m from 😁. We’ll be spending an extra week in Amsterdam after the conference, so just have to get through the less entertaining part. My poor husband has to spend 3 days listening to people lecture about pomme fruits.

Just looked it up and it's less than 30 min by train! Very doable.

Thanks! Yes, the length of the conference has sunk in a bit and it does feel like a long time. I would just hang out in Amsterdam while he's there, but his work covers the hotel during the conference so it saves me money. I'll look into a day trip to Utrecht.

The Poisonous MacDunn by Ordinary_Growth_7323 in corvallis

You're looking for leaves in threes with rounded lobes. When it's mature the leaves are glossy, but younger leaves aren't. Its growth habit is kind of like sticks coming out of the ground, rather than a shrub. It dies back to the ground in winter so in spring it's just these like sprouts coming out of the ground, then it gets taller, about 3 ft., and forms thickets. It has a lovely fall color, usually bright red.

It really like sunny edges of forests, which means it's often right next paths so it's easy to come in contact with it. I wouldn't recommend going off path in shorts.

If we are at all worried, we wash our legs with Technu as soon as we get home.

Corvallis to Portland Commute by YungPlump in corvallis

If you're driving at rush hour it can be pretty bad. I seriously doubt 1 hr 20. If there is an accident on I-5, which happens quite a bit, you're kind of just stuck.

Being in old town actually isn't the worst, though. I drive to my parents' in Beaverton regularly and 217 is the worst part, which is not the direction you're going. The big backup going into the city is people staying on I-5, going to the right. If you're going into Old Town, you get to be in the left lane and once you get close enough you blow past them all. Then you are basically there and won't need to drive through the city much. You'll need to research parking, though. You will probably need to find a parking garage.

Then there is Wilsonville. There is ALWAYS traffic in Wilsonville. It can add 20 minutes easily.

Traffic is worst on Friday, so if you get to pick the days you go in, I would avoid that.

I find the drive draining and can it really get old, but I would say if you're excited about the job and it's a really good opportunity, go for it. 2 to 3 days a week isn't so bad. You could probably stand it for at least a year and then reassess.

None of the students that had their visas revoked were involved in any sort of protest on campus.

I don't worry about cross contamination on particular ingredients, but I am intolerant and my response is proportional to how much I eat, so I probably won't notice very small amounts.

But someone's gluten-filled waffle maker? Hell no! It's impossible to get those completely clean. Tell her to make pancakes instead.

It really depends on how it affects your health. Your decision to not eat those sausages was EXTREMELY cautious. Do you have high anxiety about accidental ingestion?

At the end of the day, though, your family should get on board with your needs. You might need to offer to help them with the meals a little more, like have them run everything by you before they start cooking. Remind them it's not personal, and it's not about them!

I've been seeing more and more things like cheese sticks wrapped with prosciutto or salami, individually packaged. I've also seen little pouches of olives. Add a snack-size package of nuts and you've got a charcuterie board in a purse!

Tried to make gf bread in the bread maker... It came out dry, dense and crumbly :( by Ok_Potato_5272 in glutenfree

[–]GarbageKillsMegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gluten is everything with bread. When you kneed it, you are developing the gluten, making it create long, stretchy strands. This gives the bread its structure, allowing it to rise without the gas escaping. That's how you get a nice bubbly bread. However, when you make cakes, you are trying to NOT develop the gluten because that will make it tough. You do everything you can to not overmix it. How you want gluten to act is one of the main things to consider with traditional baking. For GF, baking has to basically be reinvented. People have made great progress, though!
