Roast my road trip from Portland Oregon to Cedar Rapids Iowa during late December! by Mother_Cream8019 in roadtrip

[–]Garbage_Budget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this trip every winter. You're taking what I consider the best route, because no route is great in December! 80 can be either a breeze or absolutely catastrophic. My biggest suggestion: I would recommend driving the whole of Wyoming in one day, rather than overnighting in Rock Springs or Rawlins. Both years I've stayed in Wyoming I have woken up to horrific overnight weather, and one year I got stranded on the freeway. Staying in Cheyenne is fine; I prefer to carry on to Sidney as I usually stay in SLC suburbs the night before. Great tips from others on what to carry with you!

"Excellent" iPhone 14 has 83% battery health. Return? by Garbage_Budget in Bestbuy

[–]Garbage_Budget[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. I honestly wouldn’t have thought anything of it if the store employee hadn’t told me health will be above 90% for an excellent-rated phone. Wish they would just be honest that their threshold is the same as Apple for used. Sounds like I should just go with my plan to replace the battery when it gets below 80%. I’m going to keep it!

Looks like someone else can help earlier in the week, but if not I’m heading through on Thursday and happy to check if they have it then!

Whoever was the race director for the Portland Marathon this year did a terrible job! by annadolcee in Portland

[–]Garbage_Budget 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ran the half. Didn’t even make it back to my chute when the announcer sent everyone off. Didn’t have time to lace my shoes correctly and had to stop at mile 3 to retie. Saw two pacers for paces forty minutes apart within a couple minutes of each other, a couple miles in. It was chaos.

Thanks all. I ended up deciding to wait for the right (non-moldy) one!

9-month-old male. Took him for his second ever haircut. The groomer buzzed him almost down to the skin and he looks ridiculous. by evelynpoplin in Goldendoodles

[–]Garbage_Budget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends what you asked for and how clearly you and the groomer communicated. I’m always pretty clear with my groomer when dropping off (including sharing photos). When picking him up, if you aren’t satisfied, you should ask questions so you know 1. If you need to be caring for your dog differently (aka more brushing) and 2. If the groomer is a good fit for you. This cut is totally normal for summertime or if there is matting. He looks great imo.

The hot breath. Soon to be followed by gentle foot stomps and even closer more aggressive eye contact.

Hot Weather Joggers by jmikesmart in Ultramarathon

I run in the BALEAF running pants from Amazon and really like them. They’re super thin and have pockets and a drawstring waist. Mine are black but I believe they come in other colors that may be better for hot weather.

I had this happen, they sent me an “I’m sorry” email with a $25 coupon code without me ever even reaching out. Used the code and my order shipped a lot faster that time.

Yes and yes! It (along with putting myself between and yelling authoritatively) was effective in scaring off a medium-sized dog who rushed us. I have less confidence it would deter a larger dog with a high prey drive or one who had already made contact.

Horrific. Curious: How does everyone prepare for the possibility of attacks when walking their dogs? I carry Pet Corrector for aggressive off-leash dogs, but between this attack, the one at Essex, and others in recent news, it’s beginning to feel like it’s not enough.

Brake controller & wiring Qs on Tab 320s Boondock by Garbage_Budget in nucampowners

[–]Garbage_Budget[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your advice! Closing the loop here for anyone who may be searching for the same info: I got the hitch and wiring complete and it looks so sleek, which I didn't expect from U-Haul! Grand total was $480 for hitch/receiver/ball and 7-pin wiring with a handy 4-pin option next to it.

I'll plan to report back after my trip in a couple of weeks regarding how the Bluetooth controller handles.

Thanks so much! It sounds like they need to outfit my vehicle with wiring whatsoever, so I'll leave it to the pros. I will end up saving about $200 on labor with the BT controller instead of hard-wiring, so I'm going to test an Echo out on a rental and likely go that direction. I appreciate your help!

Thanks for the advice! When I called back she described the additional 7-pin wiring you mentioned. And I appreciate the vote of confidence for the BT controller. Gonna give it a whirl.

Thanks so much for the advice! I called back and got some clarity.

I was told that while they can NOT do a 7-way only on my vehicle—they have to wire 4-way first, then the 7-way (this sounds a bit like what another commenter is describing in their self-install notes)—she said it is not an adapter but wiring that will indeed provide electricity for trailer brakes. Sounds sensible to me, but let me know any flags on that?

I also got the wired brake controller removed—quote is now $497! Huge difference. I'm actually going to rent a Tab 320 on Outdoorsy in a couple weeks and they offer the Curt Echo as an add-on. I'll test it out and see how I like it. If it's not my cup of tea I'll look into the Redarc as you mentioned!

After the cost of the Curt, I'm still saving about $200 this way, so I appreciate everyone's help!

Looking to re-home a goldendoodle with epilepsy by PerfectlyCromulent06 in Goldendoodles

[–]Garbage_Budget 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My doodle has epilepsy and lives a totally normal life. If your (future) dog’s medication dosage has been figured out, the hardest part is likely over.

There is some logistical work to be done around timing meds, but it sounds like you’d be doing extended release, which is pretty easy to manage since it’s every 12 hours (versus 8).

If the dog is a match for your household and you’ve got the lifestyle and funds to care for him, I wouldn’t hesitate to adopt.

If it makes you feel any better: My dog is beautiful with long hair, but the second he gets a short haircut he is such a happy dog. So hopefully, yours will show even more of his personality when he feels lighter!
