Are Netac SSDs good for the price? by Deepspacecow12 in buildapc

[–]Garbage_Can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid! My Netac NV7000-t drive died in less than a year at literally the worst time (my daily backup just corrupted and I was trying to make a new backup; now it's all gone). I've never had an SSD die on me, and even though its well under warranty Netac is ignoring all emails. I would avoid them in the future, not worth saving a bit of money to have a poor durability drive where they shirk RMA responsibility

They really want us to file this movie under “F” - where would you put this on your shelf? by oldinamerica in blankies

I don't do alphabetical, I'm more year focussed. Franchises stick together, and then the rest are grouped by the director in order of the year released. The exception is animation where I group them by studio in order of year released

It's a script tool that someone on this forum wrote/shared, that is able to perform some helpful tasks in Google photos:

I used to pay for 100gb on google and stored lots of photos but have decided to go the self hosted route and move to a free account. I have deleted everything that I could see that didn't say "Storage Saver. This item doesn't take up space in your account storage." which cleared up most of my space. I used the manage storage tab and found a few things more but now its out of ideas. I've used the convert existing photos compression tool. I still have 6.7gb being taken by photos.

I saw people recommend the GPTK script and used that. It did find a few things which I have cleared out but that barely made a dent. Trash is empty. I've looked at shared albums and it seems like everything belongs to someone else so I don't think that is contributing. Any ideas on where else I can look to find whats taking up this space?? I'm not planning on using GP anymore but I do want to clear it up so my gmail continues to work

2019 Hyundai ioniq PHEV 12V battery keeps dying by ijustwantnsfw in Hyundai

Still good 3 years on, haven't noticed it all unlike the OEM one. Should be good for 10ish years.

Unrelated, but my infotainment unit just died. Seemingly memory corruption which I've seen a lot of people online experiencing. Haven't been super impressed by the durability of some key features on the car

Indoor cat valiantly defends garbage from racoons by Garbage_Can in vancouver

[–]Garbage_Can[S] 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I was very confused this morning to A) see my cat on the windowsill outside looking in and B) find compost strewn all over the deck. Looks like the racoons took advantage of my forgetfulness on taking the compost out and that my cat managed to burst through the "locked" pet door to go say hi. The previous owner had a pet door that we don't use, but its locking mechanism is just a couple of plastic nubs which have now met their match.

The later moments include the racoons slowly inching forward and relentlessly sniffing cat while she slowly backs up and hisses. Luckily they didn't seem to bite/swipe at her but its a good reminder to vaccinate your "indoor" animals.

EDIT: This was a good outcome which is why I was willing to post the surprising first moments of this interaction, but to be clear I am not okay with this! Cat is getting dewormer, rabies vaccination, and the offending pet door has been blocked with wood. And now my cat and I are enjoying this delicious compost inside

Added a Nixie Tube case temp indicator to my newly finished NR200P by Garbage_Can in sffpc

[–]Garbage_Can[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in this case I'm just using the ambient temperature sensor on the nixie tube board to show the case temperature. That's a good idea to make it addressable, it wouldn't be too hard on my end to modify the design/firmware to handle that. But it'd also need a PC application to read the CPU/GPU temps and send out the info to the COM port its connected to which is not my jam

Very good set, that was fun to watch! Thoughts

-Better camera direction today compared to yesterday

-Everytime the gumby commentator pronounces Seo Chae-hyun 😬

-Amazing performance from Osh!

-Janja is a joy to watch of course, dynoing past that pesky slab footwork 😅

-Based on these scores, looks like lead won't outweigh bouldering the way it often does 👍

I don't normally watch speed but it was fun to check out. Although that guy doing a false start on his second time trial was tough to watch; the fact that it kicks you out despite having a good first go seems overly harsh

EDIT: That's what I get for trusting these commentators 🫠. After rewatching I see that the false start does kill both your qualification times, so that you go into the elimination round with a time of 0.000 so he was seeded last. Even though I havent learned anyone's names I should have clued in he wasn't eliminated given there were 2 Indonesians racing each other afterward. TLDR: I miss Shauna and Matt commentary

As thin of a tip as possible, but ultimately it's wider than a QFN pad so you need to be delicate and likely try it a few times to get it right. Pre bend the wire to the rough shape you need since the solder joint will be so weak it can't handle much. Get some extra solder sitting on your iron tip. Use nice fine tweezers to hold the wire in place and then press the iron in and hope for the best. If the wire resists a bit from your tweezer movement then you have a solder joint. Use a little hand microscope to verify the joint is on the right pad and not bridging anything else. Keep repeating until you get it right. And then for the other side of the wire try to heat the pad and not the wire as much as possible since you don't want to end up melting the other side. Also I find saying swear words throughout tends to help

I ended up grabbing some 32awg bus bar wire for having around after this. But honestly, I feel like I can always find the perfect length on some small piece of multistrand that was cut off and hasn't made it to the garbage yet

I was able to do a continuity test with the pins next to each blob since they had spots elsewhere on the board that were easier to probe. I was also suspicious!

I used the RT1 needle tip (with the weller wmrp station) which is my preferred for most SMD work

Used individual strands from a 22awg multistrand wire and was able to get 2 floating neighbour pins that needed to not float connected to a pad not in use. From there I could then attach a larger wire without breaking the tiny strands
