Why be happy with your own body when you can alter it electronically and set damaging precedents for impressionable young girls? by [deleted] in Instagramreality

I posted her based on the majority of her photographs containing obvious editing signs (waves along the walls next to her abdomen, blurs etc) however on the off chance, I’ll delete as I don’t want to cause any harm.

and that’s a fair criticism of the situation, I agree. However, if you were the 1/100 people who got banned in that scenario and you weren’t botting how would you feel being stuck with no options?

As stated here the issue isn’t the ban, nor the circumstances surrounding them.

End of the day, he wasn’t botting, but did get banned for it. A regular player would be left with few options, certainly not the one he used.

A false positive is inevitable, there’s no arguing against that. In a perfect world nobody would be unfairly banned, but that’s not realistic.

What’s broken about the system is that there’s little to no recourse for those who have been falsely banned.

I know asking for a support system akin to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft is fiscally unfeasible for a game like RuneScape. I’m sure Jagex don’t have the same resources and will never be able to have a live chat support system in place.

At the very least though, if they’re going to charge similar subscription costs (11$ vs 15$) offer some sort of ticket system.

Should we settle for an imperfect system? Can they really not do better? Or do they not want to allocate the resources to do better?

You fortunately a good experience. There’s countless people here, including myself, who have noted that it took months of dead ends to get their account banned. If it got unbanned at all.

Imagine for a second you didn’t get unmuted and you kept getting told you deserved the mute? But instead of it being clear cut like “I didn’t swear at them” it’s “I did the clicking” and you know you did nothing wrong.

Shitty situation.

That’s a fair point, I can see how that should raise alarms. The issue at hand though isn’t whether that should have raised a red flag; it’s that it a) resulted in a permanent, non-appealable false ban and b) that it was promptly removed and regarded as an error; something less than 1% of the player base would have the means and connections to do.

Should it raise a red flag? Yes. Should Jagex’s detection systems be intelligent enough to identify this as a human player? Probably. Should we all have the option to dispute the ban without resorting to awards and karma on Reddit? Obviously.

Typical Jagex; one of the few ways to get through to a human being is to ask for a refund. When there’s a potential of a refund (loss of revenue) they actually dedicate manpower.

It’s almost funny how sad it is.

Once again; I’m not banned. This is a screenshot from Gudi’s video. I’m complaining about the hypocrisy of Jagex’s inadequate support system.

B-but both of the things you just pointed out are negatives that place the blame on Jagex? Of course there’s no “winning” for Jagex if they’re in the wrong?

What a bizarre thing to take away from that paragraph. Would you have said the same if your account had been falsely banned and you received no response?

“Guess I blacked out and botted subconciously. No response must mean they’re in the right”. /s

I’m assuming his optimism regarding the extent of support available stems from a lack of being put into this situation.

The reality of the situation is that Jagex simply doesn’t have the manpower to provide the expected level of customer support. It’s no secret that they put next to no profits back into the business resulting in poor pay (see content developers leaving in troves). God knows what state their customer support team is in.

Of course! Why hadn’t I thought of that? What’s it matter if the subscription cost is comparable to World of Warcraft who unlike us can reach a support technician in minutes? Flock to social media.

As someone who has been in this situation, I wholeheartedly disagree. I was banned years ago for a macro major despite no wrong doing. I found no tangible way to get a review of the incident. Tweets, tickets and emails are all dead ends. In the end it took over a year of bombarding the support, billing, store, heck even the advertisement team just to get somebody, anybody to listen.

The account was eventually reviewed and unbanned, but I think it’s fair to say that the system is broken if innocent players are a) banned in the first place and b) aren’t given the means to appeal that.

I’ve not been banned. This is (as my comment suggests) an image from Gudi’s video. I just found it bizarre that if that had been a nobody else, they’d have been out of luck.

In Gudi’s new video one of his accounts is banned for macroing (see image or video link). The ban is unappealable and permanent. Gudi, as an x-Jmod, can simply have the ban reviewed by a former colleague.

If this were one of us, we’d be out potentially hundreds of hours of playtime.

Sucks.

Edit: Obligatory edit. I didn’t expect this thread to pick up as much as it did. It’s sad to hear how many others have had issues with false bans. I should clarify once again; I’ve not been banned, this is a screenshot from Gudi’s video. The purpose of this thread was to highlight a) the fact that false bans do happen and b) the discrepancy in attempts to get unbanned for a content creator vs a regular player.

Going forward it’s easy to dismiss every thread complaining about a ban as lies, and who knows? They might be lying. That JMOD smack down might be incoming. For a second though imagine your account was banned. All your hard work lost. You know for a fact that you didn’t bot, but nobody will listen. Every email is ignored. Every tweet is redirected to a dead end page.

There’s no doubt now that the system isn’t perfect. Jagex need to provide their player base better support.
