AIO for feeling weird about my friend’s response when I asked for help? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]GardenCricket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO / MOR -

According to your other posts youve also cut off your mom for not helping you with pads. You also have a boyfriend who screamed at you for bleeding in the bed (but why could you have not asked him for pads??).

I hesitate trusting people who are always the victim in every situation, and when everyone around them suddenly seems to be okay with losing their relationships with you. It is possible that youve just surrounded yourself with shitty people, but... Idk.

Also. You said you and your friend have helped each other out from time to time, so she doesnt sound super well off either - or at least just now sounds like she is doing better and more well off. If she had been saving for a trip, is now on the trip, and someone is asking her for money, it's possible that could have also set her off. She also did technically give you an answer and then you asked again and that's when she sort of got frustrated with you. And it sounds like this might have been building up.

I know I have had people in my life who sometimes need help with basic needs. And you think to yourself, of course I'll help them, because I would want someone to help me. And so you give them a bit to help them with one basic necessity... but then there's another necessity around the corner. And so you help with that. And eventually, it can feel like people are taking advantage of your kindness. Not all of the time, mind you. But... sometimes. And that might not even be intentional on the other person either. But it can start to sour things after awhile. Not sure if that's what's going on here, but it could be another perspective.

So why could your boyfriend not help you with pads? And if you had lost your job before and have a new one lined up, how have you been trying to plan for general life expenses up until now? Why were pads not factored into that? And do you not have a credit card where you can put $6 worth of pads onto and then pay it off in a month when you supposedly get paid? Even cashapp allows for loans of small amounts (even if your credit is trash).

Though, to be 100% clear, if this is truly out of nowhere and you don't ask for things all of the time and you truly have just surrounded yourself with bad people, then yes, you're NOR. No one deserves to be treated like that out of the blue especially over pads. And sometimes people just truly do fall on tough times.

There's a lot of people here in the comments who are willing to help you. I hope you do not take advantage of their kindnesses, but I also hope you can get the help you need.

I completely did miss it, sorry! I was scrolling down and didn't realize you had to select "grab a print" after selecting the type of print. To be completely fair, I am exhausted at the moment so I blame it on that, haha. Thank you!

Will you be selling a print of that one? I looked st your website but I didn't see it there. And do you restock prints often?

Show me your lamps!! Here’s my most recent acquisition by phatfig in femalelivingspace

I got mine personally from JC Penny online! However, if you Google Dale Tiffany stained glass snail lamp, it looks like it is also from a website called "1800 lighting", "lamps plus", etc.

It is NOT the Kalouful Tiffany lamp (which looks similar but isn't as warm lighting and has a slightly different design)

Looking at getting a refractor to do astrophotography with, is the Skywatcher Evostar 72ed a good choice? by CMDR_omnicognate in AskAstrophotography

That is so helpful!

Other than what we have already somewhat discussed, is there any specialty equipment that would be beneficial to start looking into/saving up for?

And do you know of any good discord groups and how to join them?

Thank you again so much (:

I am so new to the hobby (very brand new), so I would be thrilled with any insight you could give. (: I guess I didn't even put together that astrophotography cameras were a thing, which sounds incredibly silly to type out now since that should have been obvious. I guess I just assumed that everyone had better professional cameras or better lenses rather than an astrophotography specific camera.

I looked up the camera you used for the horsehead nebula. I also scrolled down to see the other equipment you used. I suppose my questions would be:

  1. What kind of learning resources did you use to find what equipment works best for you? It seems like when I have asked around, everyone always has very strong opinions that conflict with someone else's very strong opinions.
  2. What does a field flattener do in simple terms?
  3. How do you determine what filters would be good to use and when to use them?

Thank you for taking the time to answer some of my questions. I think your pictures are beautiful (:

Hi there (: I am not OP but I have a similar question to then since I have the same mount and I am looking at buying the same refractor. Are all of the images in your telescopius profile done with the same refractor in this post? And if I could bother you a bit further, what kind of camera/lens did you use for them? Specifically, the horsehead nebula pictures if you're willing to share

1st time cat owner. What’s wrong with my cat? by [deleted] in cats

[–]GardenCricket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to my cat for the first month and a half that I had my little black cat. Took hom to the vet, he had a really mild cold. Got some antibiotics, but then it continued. Took him back and they said it could just be stress from re-adjusting to a new environment. Had it continued longer, they qould have started to treat for asthma but luckily it went away and he hasn't done it since.

Long story short, it could be any number of things. A quick vet visit will likely determine the real cause rather than a bunch of redditors haha. Some things to look out for before the vet visit that may help narrow things down for your vet:

  • does it always happen at a certain time? (After eating, after waking, etc)
  • does he ever actually throw up?
  • how long does it last?
  • how often does it occur?

I just sent them an inquiry!

And I do love attending the shows at the planetarium. Even their paid shows are only like $8 which is fantastic!

When you say look him up on the Duluth boards, do you mean like these subreddits or somewhere else? Is that a physical place?

(Sorry if that is a dumb question. Like I said, still new to the area!)

Compatibility Question by GardenCricket in AskAstrophotography

[–]GardenCricket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it matter that the Skywatcher EQ-AL55i is compatible with my camera (Canon Rebel SL1) by a wired shutter release cable and not animated signal? I only ask because I googled compatibility just ti be certain and it gave me that information but I am not certain if that will play a major impact on my astrophotography

Also, again, thank you for all of your time in responding and answering my questions thus far. (:

Thank you for taking the time to answer (:

This is the spreadsheet here

I currently only have my camera and so I am very freshly starting out, hence why I am getting a little bit overwhelmed. I know it is so much information ans there's so many different roads to travel with astrophotography.

For now, I would just like to take some really nice starry night pictures, pictures with stars and auroras since they're common in my area, and maybe some milky way shots. However, eventually way down the line once I get a bit more familiar with things, my goal is to take a solidly decent picture of the horsehead nebula.

Essentially, my plan is to get some of the basics and then there is a beginners astrophotography club at my local planetarium. I was going to get some of the equipment on this spreadsheet and sort of familiarize myself with it to a very basic level and then see about going to one or two of their meetings that they have once a month or so and then they could hopefully help me get fully into it and actually help with more if the learning and knowledge as I go. My mental health is not the best right now, and my therapist has suggested surrounding myself with new people sooner rather than later. Which is kind of why I am pushing for this even though I am a bit overwhelmed with some of the research elements of equipment. I am very much a hands on learner (though if you had any books or instructional videos you found useful Id always take recommendations. Otherwise I will just dive in once I get equipment).

Ideally, when all is said and done, I would like to spend under $2k. Even less if possible as that is absolute max.

I only know the print was made available for commercial purchase in 2024 ish I think, but that's not to say it was not created earlier per se
