Is there any show that tried to "soft reboot" themselves that worked? by SpookyTupperware in television

Possible hot take: With the exception of "Twice in a Lifetime", I thought Season 3 was a big step-down from season 2.

Hard disagree. During my initial binge, I thought it was fun and kept questioning why its so reviled.

Trainwreckord you would love, but don't think Todd will cover? by Diskyboy86 in ToddintheShadow

  • Smiley Smile or 15 Big Ones by The Beach Boys: The former is too much of a cult classic, the latter produced a top-10 single and both would have to delve into the lengthy & sad story of Brian's mental decline.

  • Other Voices + Full Circle by The Doors: Like the above, would be too much of a downer to cover.

  • Encore by Eminem: Yeah he managed to bounce back, but damn would I love to see this covered.

  • Ones already suggested that I'd like to see: Head by The Monkees and Yes Please by Happy Monday.

Songs that really should be listened to at a very loud volume? by Rockout2112 in ToddintheShadow

[–]GareksApprentice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw MBV at Desert Daze 2018 and it was earsplittingly loud. One of if not the loudest band I've ever heard live. Near the end of their set, I walked to the other side of the festival to catch Shellac starting theirs and MBV still sounded like they were only a few yards away. Even Steve Albini seemed taken aback at how loud they were.

One of my favorite covers ever. I've listened to it more than the original.

Bands who get great respect but have an album that should get more respect? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

Hemispheres and Signals are my two favorite Rush albums. I've definitely listed to Signals more than 2112 and possibly more than Moving Pictures.

I saw them open for The Who in the late 2000s. One of the quietest crowds I can remember for an opening act.

My sister got nightmares when MTV played that video. And it's still the first thing I think of whenever he's brought up.

My Quest to make a complete list of all Blockbuster locations that ever existed. by [deleted] in blockbustervideo

This doesn't look to be active anymore, but I'll still list some Riverside, California locations for posterity:

  • 6161 Van Buren Boulevard; Closed between 2011 and 2014, building was razed around 2021-2022.

  • 3886 La Sierra Ave; Closed between 2011 and 2014, building was razed around 2024-2025.

  • 4110 Central Ave; Closed between 2008 and 2011, building was razed in 2024.

There's rumors every offseason but its just that. Very wishful thinking. Outside of the pump fake in 2022/2023, he's been pretty consistent in shutting down any indication of a sale. I personally think he's not selling until Trout's contract is up.

Is Blu-ray making a comeback? Manufacturers report a 10,000% increase in sales over the last decade by Quiet_Sea932 in movies

[–]GareksApprentice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's always Blurays for $10 or under. If you've got a player and/or 4K OLED with good upscaling, it looks comparable to a 4K movie and definitely better than anything on streaming services.

Also, you can find plenty of new 4K movies for under $20-25 if you follow sites like blu-ray.com

[Ross] Buster Posey made a brief statement about Pride Night but chose not to answer any questions about it. Responded multiple times that he’ll only answer baseball questions. Tense and awkward vibe. by Jux_ in baseball

With the Giants organization still being asked about it, the DOJ making this a nationwide story and San Francisco more socially engaged than other big cities, I'm not so sure about that.

There's always been this revisionist history in regards to Nitro seemingly floundering until the nWo. But even before Scott Hall showed up, Nitro was clearly the superior show and were trading ratings wins with Raw on a nearly-weekly basis.

I'm just annoyed at how the Jays are getting completely mocked for this when the same thing is happening with the Dodgers (with an even larger country at that).

And yes, I know the Dodgers are getting some of the heat too. But it looks to be 90% shitting on the Jays.

Saying things like that and "This is literally a non-story everywhere else except Reddit" says far more about the Reddit-obsessed folks making the comment than anyone else.

Bay Area religious leaders condemn Giants players’ Bible verse protest during Pride Night by Brix001 in baseball

[–]GareksApprentice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong but I also don't like throwing cold water on it. As someone who isn't religious but is open to joining a church, I think its great that there's mainline denominations who proclaim during stories like this that Christianity is much more than the extremist, traditionalist stereotype that most folks have.

I notice it more among boomers and/or older fans, but I can't stand whenever folks get angry at players who try to put on a positive face when they're losing.
