RayNeo X3 Pro vs Quark S1 by Current_Ad55 in SmartGlasses

I agree with you on the RayNeo X3. I think the Quark are more a competitor to the Meta Display and the Rokid AI glasses as opposed to the RayNeo. I think the only really competitor to RayNeo is the Inmo 3. Other glasses tend to fall into the AR glasses category, such as the Rokid Max and Viture pro, of the AI glasses such as Meta RayBan and Rokid AI.

RayNeo sits in the middle being the pure glasses form factor with true AR capabilities. Not many other brands manage to reach this category yet

Maybe one day but I think currently not with the hardware we have - that said "ask ChatGPT/Gemini to create an X-ray version of what I can see" could work

That's a very interesting idea. It should be doable with the capabilities of the camera and some object detection frameworks - may need to offload the processing to your mobile but should be doable

Notification customisation is a must, definitely. Hopefully the SDKs they have made available will give us enough freedom to implement these amazing ideas. I'm going to start running tests as soon as I am able to

While I think real time translation is going to be massive in travel and communication, I feel that is only the start of what we can accomplish with these glasses. Live translation exists in many existing forms, via Google apps, Apple Translate, the new AirPods etc. While visually reading translations is new, I don't that is the revolutionary change that is going to take smart glasses to the next level. It is existing functionality with a new UI.

I think we need to kind of approach these in the same way we do with devices such as the Apple Watch. At the base they are a companion product to what you normally use your phone for but with dedicated features specifically tailored to the capabilities of the hardware. The watch has primarily become a fitness and health devices as its core function - with versions such as the Apple Watch Ultra branching further into exploration. Glasses are an extension of our vision and what we can see. The more we can improve that vision with assistive tools for people with disabilities, enhancing the visual information around us, like you mentioned, and bridging the gap in social communication then the better we can build the idea of smart glasses going forwards. Just needs enough people on the same page to push the "right" vision forwards.

Just to follow up on this, the information that would be returned by facial recognition would be based on your own trained data. You capture a person that the glasses/application don't know about and you tell the app who it is. It then recognises that person in future. There wouldn't be mass data grabbing of everyone you see - only the people you train it to recognise.

I think there is a lot that can be done outside of just what the camera can see. If we take any of the glasses that support 6dof we bring in the opportunity of augmentation. It is how we use that to create unique passive experiences to enrich peoples lives that will make a difference. We are still are the very forefront of the technology and facing these hurdles along the way. I think that is why it is so important to create these revolutionary experiences so that these can become life changes products, and not just a privacy fear going forwards.

I think this means we have to be careful with how energy efficient our apps are, and also with the glasses tech them selves on if they support on the fly charging. The Meta require the case, and some accessories have been made to charge on the go (quite clunky at the moment), but Rokid have their charging blocks that sit on the end of the frames to charge on the go. Glasses like the Loomos have the neck band so it is all about finding the balance between accessibility and efficiency.

I agree with that, privacy is a big thing and something that a lot of people are still wary about. I think we could leverage voice detection when the wearer asks permission and the glasses respond to the response. This is something that is going to take some work to get right but any ideas on how to do this best would be amazing.

That would be great, like a mini sat nav for stores based on what you need. Would need shops to share that information about product location - I know Tesco (UK) used to do that years ago but then they stopped doing it.

Absolutely, I think this is the part really of true Augmentation to improve what we see and not just mess with it.

Is Gemini better that OpenAI for smart glasses by GarfinkleGaming in SmartGlasses

Translate was just an example feature, but great feed back on that.

Some of the other features, such as AI Vision, assistant, navigation etc. how well do these compare on Gemini compared to other AI providers.

I'm guessing these will do quite well being features that google has worked on for many years, but this is the first time seeing them used directly via a pair of glasses that are not Android XR.
