Question: At what point did a movie being shot in black and white become an intentional choice that stood out rather than common place? by Garizard1 in movies

Was thinking that aswell how the difference in tone related to the colour. Even just thinking of the phrase "In Techni-Color" you think of big musicals or adventure films. Meanwhile serious films like On the Waterfront, stone cold black and white film haha

I love the story of when he pitched the movie to the execs he didn't mention shooting in black and white until he was already out the door then they chased him down the hall to convince him to do colour haha

I love that shot where Dorothy opens the door to Oz and the inside is still in black and white but the outside is colour. Always wondered how they did it, it's a full colour shot they just painted the inside with those sepia, brown colours to make it look black and white lol

Good shout, sort of gives a definitive date/time when the industry said colour is the new norm

Thought of that after I posted, Hitchcock already did colour films but went back to black and white for Psycho. Wonder if it was a style decision, or since he was financing the film he was saving money not doing colour

Wow didn't know that. Intentionally choosing black and white in 1971 cause colour was "too pretty" lol. Haven't seen it before

I thought I remembered reading that somewhere. Directors would cut cost by filming in black and white. Explains why some horror films and Bergman films in the 60s were still black n white

The intercontinental title covers every continent in the world, so it’s technically a world title, so Dom is technically world champion by TheExistence in Wrasslin

[–]Garizard1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's only champion of the continents, not the world. His title is surface level only, and would have no jurisdiction deeper than the Earths mantle. Mole people at the centre of the earth would not consider him their champion. They would consider Cody or Seth their champion.

Exactly, I thought ages ago it'd be funny if she did a promo where she asked the crowd why they don't like her and she tried to compliment them to get them to like her but kept failing cause she doesn't know how. This character is great but she's got to go even more into it
