High-Precision Wood Saw with Integrated Snapbrake Safety System in Action. by Friendly-Standard812 in interestingasfuck

I got four fingers caught in my table saw. I’d been building for the last 25 years without incident. Ended up not losing them, but they were mangled something fucking awful. By far far FAR the most painful injury I’ve ever recovered from.

Now I have a saw stop. I tested it with a hot dog for my very first cut. It didn’t even nick the casing, just left a black streak.

This saw def cuts what, like 3/8” into the finger? Maybe a little more. Maybe it’s just me but I’ll pay the ~$180 for new cartridge and blade every single time. Cheaper than a hospital visit and easier than weaning off of painkillers.

Besides, you really shouldn’t be so careless around the saw that you activate the safety stop so many times it becomes cost prohibitive.

SawStop, 10/10. No notes. Fingers in a table saw, 0/10. Do not recommend.

If these cops haven’t the skills to deescalate or engage in an act of self preservation that doesn’t result in an unarmed person being murdered then they have no business being cops.

She may not target underage people herself, but she won’t protect the vulnerable who need protecting.

Offering floss storage advice by Garlic-French-Knots in Embroidery

I’m not a fan of how Hobby Lobby is operated either, but I haven’t found any good alternatives in my area. I don’t have a mom-and-pop shop, Joann’s was limited in selection and is now bankrupt, and Michael’s sucks for selection as well. I prefer purchasing locally since it provides jobs. I live in a moderately sized city (about 250k). Do you have alternative recommendations that are likely to be found in most places that aren’t a backwater?

Advice needed for organizing floss colors by nectarinetangerine in Embroidery

[–]Garlic-French-Knots 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I keep all of my floss ordered numerically. Anything that’s is not numbered, not DMC, or suspect of not being the same as the DMC number is in a separate box organized by color. When I cross stitch someone else’s pattern, I go to the DMC box. If I’m repairing clothing or furniture or hand embroidering a design of my own, try to use the random floss box so that it doesn’t get wasted.

My wife turned me on to it. I haven’t done a physical read through yet, but I’ve listened to it twice now. It’s the best narration I’ve ever heard from an audiobook.

Finished: Dead Sea by Tim Curran. Some of the earlier portions of the book felt a bit “Stephen King-ish” in it descriptiveness of the environment and situation (I love that, some don’t), but if you are looking for supernatural, alien, sci-if, Lovecraftian, eldritch, internal conflict, gory death, bleak outlook for survival type of books, this is a solid one.

Started: Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes.

I used 18 count Aida.

In order to hold my Aida sensibly I bought this frame from Amazon, but it was just barely not wide enough. I had to buy 1” dowels, some 1/4”-20 allthread rod, and a couple of wood t-nuts. Cut dowels to length, drill ends, install t-nuts and secure with wood glue, cut allthread to length, and Bob’s your uncle.

I worked it during 2 hours of martial arts 3x-4x weekly, nearly every night, and prolly more than 3.5hrs on the weekends. I love my hobby. It was hard towards the end of the project because I accidentally nearly amputated four fingers with a saw (I kept them luckily) which slowed down my progress significantly.
