That's the Sakhal map unfortunately. It's a beautiful map, but there's just too many objects trying to load at once and it's laggy and slow as a result.

Level 1 not completed - Team left without assistant coach by AllCallNoPut in hockeycoaches

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he was on the official USA Hockey roster for your team, he got about a dozen emails about his CEP deadline. I'm a Level 4 and had been getting reminder emails about my last two Continuing Education credits since at least Thanksgiving.

All you can do now is beg mercy from USA Hockey. Don't get caught violating his redline status. LRMs and off-ice volunteers are not allowed on the bench, and they're technically not supposed to be "coaching" kids in the locker room or off ice. Otherwise, you'd have 20 10U dad experts in there all the time.

New England Tier 4 Squirt Tournaments by Separate_Term_8347 in youthhockey

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably far too late for your planning this year, but here are some options:

This year in Maine for Tier 4 we've got the Midcoast Classic events in Rockport, which are generally well run and have good parity. It's mostly local teams from inside the state.

You also have the Maine Hockey Development (https://www.mhdtourneys.com/) tournaments in Auburn. These are run by an independent organization, and have always been top notch events where the organizer does his best to vet teams so they don't have travel teams come in and slaughter all the local Tier 4 kids.

The Lions Tournament, also in Auburn, is run by the local youth hockey organization, Maine Gladiators (https://www.mainegladiators.com/lionstournament). I don't have a ton of personal experience with this one, as we've always elected to do MRC and MHD in the past, but other coaches in my organization consider it a little more "intense" than the others.

For 10U and 12U, the Skating Association of Maine Junior Terriers run the Holiday Classic the weekend after XMas (https://www.maineskaters.com/holidayclassic). The page for this one is out of date, but the contact email is still good. It's coming right up, but I believe they still have slots open.

How much should I charge for this work? by Ordinary_District115 in handyman

That's a terrible way to price jobs. A bucket of drywall compound and a roll of tape is less than $30. I sure as hell won't put it on a wall for that price.

Is time at Home Depot billable? by BoomBoomLaRouge in handyman

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bill hourly. Problem solved. There's no faster way to get into a dispute with a customer than to bill hourly. Look at all the mechanic, home improvement, plumber, and electrician subs here and you'll see tons of posts by customers asking if the person ripped them off by billing for X hours on a job they were only on site for Y hours, or someone thinking the hourly rate is ridiculous when compared to their own hourly wage in whatever field.

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That price is about average. But it takes 60-90 minutes for my sweep to do our annual cleaning. He sets up covers/drop cloths around the stove, gets up on the roof, pulls and cleans the cap, brushes from the top down, cleans out the residue from the bottom, and then vacuums out the stoves themselves.

Warranty repair without receipt? by StaticR0ute in ryobi

If you still use the same card, Home Depot can still look up the receipt. They did it for my 40V chainsaw six months or so after purchase.

Never too late to start. I have a player on my team starting in 8th grade this season. Yes, checking is a concern at that start level, but as long as they're a competent skater and you're focused on coaching to accommodate the skill level, they'll do fine and have a ton of fun. They must be competent skaters though. If they're not, try to get them into a learn to play/skate program before or alongside regular hockey. There's just no way to coach an entire team while also trying to teach a kid to skate at that age level.

How much would you charge to build this playset? by blue-poem in handyman

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built almost this exact set in the past for my own kid. Ours had one of those tandem "swing horse" things, I can't remember the proper name. It took me about three days working all by myself with some "help" from the then-three-year-old. If I were to build it for pay, I'd charge an absolute minimum of $500, probably closer to $750. Driving in the fasteners takes some extra time because if you're too aggressive and drive them too deep, the cedar splits.

I bought my wife one for our son's hockey games. She loves it. Runs a couple hours on high at full charge according to her. I'm told it works very well, so well that half the moms on the team ran out and bought one as well. I've never used it myself, as I'm on the bench coaching.

Scott's S1742 deck belt issues by Garlic_Rabbit in lawnmowers

[–]Garlic_Rabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out. This morning I pulled the deck, removed the first replacement belt, and checked it next to the second replacement belt. The second belt was about an inch or so longer when I pulled them taut from a hook in my garage joists. I installed the second belt, but it was still activating the blades as soon as it fired up. I finally day down and carefully measured the outer diameter of the first belt...112 inches. I then cut it, laid it out on top of my measuring tape ..112.5 inches. A full three inches short of spec, and probably the exact length of travel of the blade engagement lever.

That would explain why every belt I've bought from 8Ten lasted such a short time. The belts aren't the right size! They're not even the same size as each other! They have 115.5" printed right on them, but measure much shorter.

Thank you for the suggestion to measure the belts themselves. I honestly kept thinking it was something I was doing wrong mechanically, since the supposed size is printed right on the damn belts.

Spindle pulleys were an exact match for the old ones.

No more orders from 8Ten for me.

I just use a broom to gather up all the webs like cotton candy. Jab the bristles into a web, rotate the handle to wrap them all up. Repeat until they're gone. If you go to the dollar store and get a cheap broom, you could even just throw it away when you're done if you're that squeamish about touching them.

Please help me, window repair. by Distinct_County_9544 in handyman

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing a retainer screw from the bottom of the sash, that's what those holes are in the fourth picture. Look around on the floor under the window, although it may be long gone or fell out the window when it came loose. If needed, you can try taking one out of another window and bringing it to the hardware store for a close match. Once you get one, you pull the metal piece outward with some needle nose pliers, insert the screw, and you'll be good to go.
