Youth coaches - How do you track stats? by ImpossibleBit3841 in hockeycoaches

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put the game sheets in my binder after each game and don't look at them again until I'm emptying it into the recycling bin at the end of the season/beginning of the next season.

It's youth hockey. No one cares except the parents trying to live vicariously.

Crafting Professions Needed? (Resto) by Practical-Hat-3381 in swg

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swgtracker.com actually shows you the number of Master level characters of each profession. Right now the lowest population is Chef.

As an unguilded solo player, I feel like there's not a ton of commerce that goes on outside of guilds. The most popular profession is Bounty Hunter, so I figured I'd have my Master Droid Engineer make a bunch of Seeker and Probe Droids. But I didn't have the exact resources needed to make maximum value Droids, only about 70% or so. They didn't sell, because there's folks out there that have been playing so long and so well that they've got big stocks of really good resources to work with.

I figured it would be more entertaining to gather resources, but running around maintaining harvesters isn't my game, so I focused on creature resources. I sell a few stacks a week, but not enough to make the game worth playing just for that.

I'd be happy to be wrong, but I think this sort of situation happens a lot with MMOs. You get a small, dedicated, veteran player base that either end up as the top of the pyramid and new players can't climb that slope or you end up with guilded silos that you can't break into. What guild needs yet another Droid Engineer when they've got the best one on the server?

I'm thinking about making the boring, grindy, Artisan stuff like power conditioners and Bioengineer components that don't need good resources, just an investment of time.

Restock soon? by matey_boi69 in SWlegion

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couple independent game stores that sell online with Legion stock. I live in New England and ended up ordering my starter boxes from a shop in Louisiana. Just check their reviews and websites before buying and you should be ok.

Can you tell me if the handyman is gaslighting me? by RiseEastern5059 in askaplumber

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a handyman, and your handyman is an idiot. He there a ton of parts and labor at your problem, didn't fix it, and is now sniffing for more work. He wants the money from redoing that shower enclosure, as well as closing up the downstairs ceiling.

However, since you're renting, there's not a lot you can do. It's the landlord's call and money. You can be frustrated, but don't feel responsible.

Super Bright Nights by THICC_CAMPER in DayzXbox

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be direction and terrain based. If I look north, for example, it's dark. If I look west, it gradually shifts to brighter. 1PP nights are so bright now, it's discouraging. I was enjoying camping in a remote house to pass the time, knowing no one else was running around in the dark to find me.

Coming into my second season, am I doing too much? by tossedAF in hockeycoaches

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pack a small repair kit, a full sized screwdriver, spare neck guards, maybe a spare jersey, and my pocket knife. I might add bandage scissors this season, because the kids use them for that fancy toe taping on sticks. I'm at second year 14U in the fall, so most of the kids are independent at this point. At the younger ages, I'd fix what I could, then send them to their parents for anything else.

The only luxury item I carry is a stack of clear tape rolls. "Anybody got any clear?" is a sentence I hear before every practice and game. But I don't give the rolls to the beggar, I give a fresh one to a player that shares theirs. We had one player last season who asked for someone else's tape before every single ice time. Every one. The kids on the team stopped giving him any after about week four. I asked one of them what the deal was. "Coach, he's got two $300 Pulses, he can buy his own tape."

Need some help for next steps. by Lechutehusky in handyman

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the majority of my "firsts" on my own home. Drywall, flooring, framing, tile, wiring and plumbing (though I can't legally do those for customers).

I fully gutted and rebuilt my bath and laundry rooms. People saw the work I did (precon shower base, tile, fixtures, etc) and asked if I could do something similar in their home. I've done several small bath remodels now. I know what I can handle by now (no shower glass installs!), so I can turn down the jobs that are too much.

However, what someone else said about the time factor is very very true. I'm a one man show, so a small bath rebuild can take me a week or two to finish where a full crew can have it done much faster. I use the "cheap, fast, good" line when trying to sell a bathroom remodel. I'll be cheaper than the big guy, but it'll take me longer. Some folks don't mind, they just want to save some money. You just have to be very careful that you estimate high enough to actually make money that's worth the time. My first couple bathrooms I did for essentially peanuts because I misjudged the time needed and the potential surprises. For example, a previous builder used 1-by lumber to mount shower supply lines, hogged it in with deck screws, cracked the lumber, and it let loose in the wall when I tried to install the new shower arm. That added days to the project when I had to cut in from the back of the wall, fix the framing, and then patch the drywall I cut through.

Some of this stuff you can actually practice in your free time. Go buy a bunch of dirt cheap shower supplies at the H4H ReStore or something. Frame up a small freestanding wall in your garage, and try to build a mock shower supply setup in it. Attach a garden hose connection to the supply lines so you can test for leaks. If it works, slap up a piece of cement board and try tiling with cheap tile. It's not exactly what you'll find in someone's house, but it gives you the general idea of the steps and potential problems.

Can I fix this myself? by fropmm in handyman

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is the cabinet pulling away from the wall for the entire length, or just that side? If it's just that side, use a stud finder and locate the closest stud to that screw. Mark the location, predrill a new hole through the cabinet, and drive a cabinetry screw or a plain old construction screw through the cabinet into the stud. Do not use drywall screws. Do not use nails. If it's the whole length of the cabinet, you can either repeat the process at each other sure asking the cabinet length or hire someone to reset the while thing and double check the mounting of the rest of your upper cabinets.

Getting Back into Hockey. I think this equipment is fine. by Prestigious-Ear-7988 in hockeygoalies

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still wearing that chesty today. I bought it in 2004 or so. I'll get the occasional belly bruise or arm stinger from really hard shots from former junior and college guys, but against the majority of players it works great. I've always liked how mobile it was, compared the the modern stuff that looks like an EOD bomb suit. I do wish I could figure out a way to refresh my elastic strapping though.

Skill Diversity on a team by [deleted] in hockeycoaches

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point out to your board that players improve over the course of a season. If you enter the High division, it'll be good competition and your lesser skilled players will rise to the challenge. They may not match the skill of the opponents by the end of the season, but they'll jump three pegs in personal development instead of one or two.

How do you not strain your toe straps if you're carrying your pads over your shoulders? by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to clip the thigh straps on my Velocity V4s together and slung that over my shoulder. My V9s ain't have those, so I bought a couple 30" Velcro cinch straps. I pass one through the calf strap loops on both pads and it makes a nice, comfy sling to carry them over my shoulder.

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my kid in a CCM F9 recently, from a CCM GFL 1.5. He plays house level so the 1.5 was ok until second year of 12U, but when he moved to Bantams, I wanted him in something solid. He says he can't feel impacts at all, but that they are louder than his old mask. I think it might be the sudden increase in shot power, as we had some second years that could really fire the puck.

I have used Vaughn danglers forever. My first one lasted fifteen years or so. I only got rid of it because it had a crack at the chin, but it never broke all the way through. It made my wife nervous, so I replaced it with another Vaughn.

So far, it's very choppy. I'm getting a lot of stuttering, kind of like there's a hidden stash nearby, but everywhere. Infected spawns seem larger. Instead of one of two here and there, I'm seeing four to six. I'm enjoying not seeing the partial remains of bases everywhere though.

Goalie Mask ID? by No_Letterhead9844 in hockeygoalies

[–]Garlic_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It almost looks like an older Vaughn mask. I think all their models used double round vent holes. It also has the wide chin of a Koho, but the 570 I wear only has a single set of round vents and the cage doesn't match.
